When I saw him do that, my first thought was that he's doing his little gesture just to save face. You could tell he was getting bummed when he kept dropping.

And my God Chris Bermann and Gruden's gushing and lovefest for Manziel from the start of the broadcast until he was picked was terrible.

12 hours late with an unnecessary thread bump. Sup with that man?

I don't blame them for the Manziel lovefest, moreso than I blame ESPN. It's all they talked about even after he was picked and on the SC that was on afterwards.

A lot of the perceived arrogance with high profile athletes stems from too much exposure IMO.

Big fan of the Giants pick!

Agree with this. ESPN is pushing the SEC brand so hard it's absurd.

It'd be nice if they signed with a conference that gave a shit about student athletes, but they're happy to whore themselves out to the hot topic.

Nothing wrong with that because it will make them money, but it undermines what college athletics should be about IMO.

I'm hoping for CB in the second and WR or DL in the 3rd.

I wouldn't call Shazier small when he is 6'1", 240 pounds

Steelers listed him at 6 foot and 237 at their draft press conference. Thats pretty damn small. Not Wesley Woodard small but about as small as you will find for an inside linebacker in a 3-4. Lawrence Timmons is only slightly larger so if he turns out like him great. It's not only him though as I doubt he starts this year, but they may have one of the worst d-lines in the league right now with SD cast off (He was bad there and no one cared that he left) Cam Thomas penciled in to start beside McLendon (who has been openly called out for his weak play by the coaches and other players who wished Hampton was still there) and Heyward who was the lone bright spot on the line. I assume that they resign Keisel for the season near training camp but a lot of writers are saying the team does not seem to be leaning that way. If they can grab one of Nix, Tuitt or Hageman (who I really don't like but whatever he could be great or a huge bust) they need to. Their run defence was atrocious and if they weren't going to grab one of the elite cbs available in the first round then there really isn't much of a drop off between the cbs available in the second and third, it's more scheme preference now.

I just view the value of those 3 players at far superior to any cb that they would draft now. They've also talked about a big receiver for years and just haven't really drafted on high so I doubt it's really that big of a priority.

NFL Network coverage > ESPN.

I was so glad the Raiders didn't make a huge mistake and take Manziel at 5, love the pick of Mack.

Teams can't fill all of their needs in round 1. Shazier is an athlete, a tackling machine, and runs a damn 4.4. They can definitely get a good d-linemen and corner back in rounds 2 and 3 tonight. They could easily go Nix or Tuitt in the second and Pierre Desir or Phillip Gaines in the 3rd. I'm not worried about getting a receiver because there is a good chance that there will be a good one in the 4th round

I love the pick; Shazier and Tommons could be a hell of a tandem.

As a Bengals fan, I can only hope Tuitt/Nix are gone or Pittsburgh royally screws it up. I don't want to see Shazier's speed running around while Nix/Tuitt is occupying blockers.

Who do you want in Rd 2? There are a legit 12 or 15 guys I would be happy with at 36. Sort of the product of having a really bad team w/ holes everywhere.

How can someone be a Raiders fan and a Notre Dame fan? For some reason to me that seems like you're saying "I like God and the devil" :)

So who are best available now? Seems like Nix and Tuitt would be hard for just about any team to pass up on pure value at this point. Now I am REALLY wishing the Bears had traded down for an extra pick.

Pogue Colonel: Marine, what is that button on your body armor?
Private Joker: A peace symbol, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Where'd you get it?
Private Joker: I don't remember, sir.
Pogue Colonel: What is that you've got written on your helmet?
Private Joker: "Born to Kill", sir.
Pogue Colonel: You write "Born to Kill" on your helmet and you wear a peace button. What's that supposed to be, some kind of sick joke?
Private Joker: No, sir.
Pogue Colonel: You'd better get your head and your ass wired together, or I will take a giant shit on you.
Private Joker: Yes, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Now answer my question or you'll be standing tall before the man.
Private Joker: I think I was trying to suggest something about the duality of man, sir.
Pogue Colonel: The what?
Private Joker: The duality of man. The Jungian thing, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Whose side are you on, son?
Private Joker: Our side, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Don't you love your country?
Private Joker: Yes, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Then how about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and come on in for the big win?
Private Joker: Yes, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Son, all I've ever asked of my marines is that they obey my orders as they would the word of God. We are here to help the Vietnamese, because inside every gook there is an American trying to get out. It's a hardball world, son. We've gotta keep our heads until this peace craze blows over.
Private Joker: Aye-aye, sir.

Looks like the Cowboys were gonna take Shazier.

When the evening began, most Steelers fans were hoping for the team to pick one of the top prospects at cornerback at No. 15, and after the St. Louis Rams selected defensive tackle Aaron Donald at No. 13, it seemed as though they would get their wish. At least, that’s what Jerry Jones and the rest of the Dallas Cowboys brain trust figured.

After Donald was picked, there were two of the top three cornerbacks still available – Kyle Fuller and Darqueze Dennard – and even if the Chicago Bears decided on a cornerback that still would leave the Steelers with the one they didn’t pick.

The Bears in fact selected Fuller at No. 14, and that’s when the Cowboys, picking after the Steelers at No. 16, had their representatives in Radio City Music Hall write a name on an index card and prepare to turn it in to the Commissioner.

The name on that card was Ryan Shazier , and the Cowboys began congratulating themselves on their good fortune. Their joy would turn to stunned silence moments later when Roger Goodell walked to the podium and announced the Steelers’ pick. The name on that card was Ryan Shazier, as well.

Can't say I understand the Pats taking a guy in the 1st round coming off his second torn ACL surgery. Oh well. Gotta trust Bill.

I'm not familiar with the Easley, but I've heard some analysts say that the kid could have been top-10 if not for the injuries. If they had a really solid medical evaluation that showed he was "good as new," this could prove to be a steal.

FWIW, Tuitt and Niklas are both "in the mix" for Patriots' potential Day 2 targets.

I immediately thought that was Favre.

And regarding arrowryan's Shazier story: I find it fascinating how different the teams' Big Boards are compared to all the ones we see.

I only agree because Bortles is in a terrible situation. Jacksonville stinks (worse than Cleveland) and he will have 0 weapons to throw to.

Which is why he is going to sit his first year and learn. At least that is the plan.

Bridgewater was a effing steal for the Vikes.

Manziel will wash out in three year, probably.

And I love the way that I was given a ton of crap for saying that the scouts knew more than anyone else (because as I said, they watched game tape and in person during games) and that JFF was not worth a Top Five of Top Ten pick....and he dropped to #22, lol.

Shorts is pretty good. Who knows if Blackmon will even be on the team next season.

Where did I say I thought they had to fill their d line needs in the first round? The only players i mentioned were Tuitt, Nix and Hageman, and they are all available today so I have no idea where you got that. Also you were the one saying that they should go wr and cb in the second and third. I just pointed out you don't go for a player that you could get a comparable one to in third when you have 3 of the top d lineman all available. Wr need is always overblown, once you get past the elite ones I think you can find a good one later. Although I do think Lee is elite and he is still available so if he's there when Pitt picks there has to be some consideration over him for sure.

Let's not forget that the #22 pick is on the FRONT PAGE with TWO articles devoted to him. He was the most over-hyped played in the draft, as I was saying for months before the draft and all they did was talk about him all day....and night. And I bet he is the talk of Day 2, as well.

GM thinks it is highly unlikely that Blackmon is on the team this year.

Jacksonville has a LOT of work to do but I think they have the right idea about letting Bortles learn for a year.

Henne is not awesome but he is a decent QB, who also has the same problems that Bortles would have this year, so why send him out there when you have Chad Henne to throw to the wolves?

Anyone know more about Jimmy Ward? I was hoping that the Niners could trade up and get a bigger, better DB than another small DB who will get abused by Hawks WRs next year.
