Every analyst and pundit in the pro football industry talks about how pro days are "generous" to player performance measures and probably loosely affiliated with reality. And then they all gush over pro day performance measures like every dude strapping on a helmet and pads is Canton-bound.

News cycle feeding itself.

Would that be for the second round? Haven't seen those guys projected that high in the 1st.

If the Browns go with Carr, God help my neighbors dog.

Just me, but I want Watkins or Matthews (In the order) at number four. Doesn't matter what QB they have if there's nothing around him... Watkins with Gordon on the other side?? Yes. Please. I like bulking up the Line with the 2nd pick though... I have a hard time believing Carr won't be there in the 2nd round... and have a HUGE problem with taking any of this year's QBs that high when there are so many other areas of need... Carr especially.

With the Browns track record, they'll take Carr about a full round too high... then trade their second pick for a semi-retired punter.

I agree with one big caveat and that is Clowney. Pipe dream most likely, but weirder things have happened in the draft.

Yeah, that would be a no brainer imo... but such a long shot I didn't even consider it. Watkins may be getting to that point too, but there's still a slight hope he falls to four. If he does, and the Browns take Carr anyway... THAT HIGH, while passing on Watkins... I'll fly out to your spot and we can make your neighbor’s dog rue the day together... something would have the die at that point.

For the record, I like Carr enough to draft him... but at number four?? Maybe even with their second first round pick???

Got to be kidding me.

For the dog's sake, I hope that doesn't happen. He is just now getting over trading the 2011 6th overall draft pick and forgoing Julio Jones.

I am like you, if Carr is good, he will be there in round 2. 1st round draft picks should be for setting everything else up.

I'll be shocked if he slips out of the first round at this point.

I've seen him projected as high as the Top 15.

Kiper is an ass hat. Van Noy is not a 1st round pick. He is not even a top 50 prospect IMO. I just remember how much ND's O-line dominated him.

Jadeveon Clowney, Tom Savage are hot names as 2014 NFL Draft nears | The MMQB with Peter King

4. Speaking of surprise players … The stunner this draft season is a quarterback who threw 83 passes as a Rutgers sophomore in 2010, then didn’t play college football in 2011 or 2012 as he transferred from Rutgers to Arizona to Pitt. “The hottest guy in the draft,” Brandt of Tom Savage. How hot is he? Late last week Savage’s agent, Neil Schwartz, had to tell two teams who wanted to set up a visit or meeting with the quarterback that he didn’t have any time left to do so. “There are literally no days left on his calendar for him to go see any other teams,” Schwartz said Saturday. The deadline for teams to host players or work them out is April 27, and by then Savage is scheduled to have either worked out for or had visits with 24 or 25 teams. That’s an amazing number of workouts and/or meetings … and when I say meetings with teams, I mean time with either the GM, coach, offensive coordinator or two or three of those. Savage is popular because he’s got an above-average NFL arm right now—some are calling it the best in the draft—and showed well over the last half of last season with a bad offensive line at Pitt. He spent Friday with the Oakland staff, and that’s a place he’d fit in well. Amazing to think a player so itinerant and with so little college success could be leap-frogging A.J. McCarron, Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger. But there’s a good chance Savage will. Todd McShay had Houston taking Savage with the 33rd overall pick. Now there’d be a way to kick off the second day of the draft in style, with a stunner like that.

The Jimmy Graham effect:

Antonio Gates was before Jimmy Graham...just saying.

True, but I was meaning more along the line of Miami-basketball-player-turned-TE. I also think Gates was originally on a football scholarship at Michigan State before leaving to focus on basketball.

The power forward to TE transition is a move I think more guys should make. Think Patrick Young from Florida this year. That guy hit the genetic lottery but has almost zero chance of catching on in the NBA because he has mediocre instincts and no face-up game. He'd be an absolute nightmare TE or maybe even DE with his size and explosiveness.

I'm have decided on my want for the Browns...

Watkins with their first pick... Bridgewater with their second...

Haven't even followed enough to know if it's possible, but that would make me happy... until they hit the field anyway.. ;)

Yeah. Stanford's not the enemy, aside from that one day a year we play them. They're a school that tries to win the right way, with kids who truly student-athletes. We're in the same boat. And with all the schools in the other boat, we ought best look out for one another.

No they are the worst of enemies precisely because of that. If Duke/Northwestern/etc became prominent programs that would only mean NAD things for Notre Dame.

From a recruiting standpoint, yes, you're right (though I'm not sure what you mean by "NAD things.") Stanford being good may cost us one or two kids a year who we'd like to have, though I'd be surprised if it's much more than that.

But from a "winning at football while not diving into the gutter" standpoint, the more programs that pull that off, the better for all the rest of us. They're an example of how to do it right. In the long run I'd rather people say "Why don't we be more like Stanford" than "Why don't we be more like Ohio State."
