Here is my take on player rankings and the effects of early offers. So much of recruiting depends on player evaluation. The recent climate with high school football players is more about getting the "early" offer from schools. So much so that a school that "gets' in late" compared to other schools could have a negative impact on their chance of securing the player's commitment. Strange to me but so many players give that as the reason for their commitments.

This rush to get in early probably leads to a lot of poor evaluation of overall talent and how that particular player may fit your needs. That's one reason why I think we are seeing an increase in highly ranked players being average college players and on the opposite end seeing a two star become a really good player.

I would suggest not being worried about rankings and be more concerned about how that player fits our system, does their build, athleticism fit what we want, what is their competitive attitude on and off the field, etc. If they fit all those and are only a two or three star then who cares.

While your here what are your thoughts on the NT/NG situation for Bama? Elam, Frazier, both, etc? Other names?

Think we have no shot for either Elam or Frazier. With OJ Smith already committed I would expect him to be initially slotted at NG.

A few new names to follow for 2014. Cory Thomas 3star DE from Alabama and C'yontai Lewis 3star TE/DE from Alabama that is a Florida commit.

His junior film on Hudl definitely doesn't suck. Good player to grab as a walk-on if we can.

Cory Thomas' first step for a 6'6" 270lb man is obscene. Do Want. Kid could be a beast 3-4 DE.

C'yontai Lewis is cousins with Bo Scarbrough so that explains the interest there. I like Weishar more as a TE than him. At 6'5" 215 he could grow into a CAT or DOG.

sorry, but that was not an overly impressive highlight tape. Besides, not sure I would call scoring a touchdown when your teammate makes the play a highlight. Hopefully the kid gets a shot at playing at the college level, but high level division 1 is probably not in his future.

The two guys that come to mind are Luatua and Tranquill and both have planned visits for Saturday. This should be good.

I can see Tranquill maybe thinking he doesn't want to waste the time of Purdue coaches this weekend when he knows he is pretty much set with ND. Could explain the Friday afternoon timing. Juts a thought

Outside of McKensie, all the the kids we are after are planning visits. Things change, recruiting is fluid.

Please let's not let this turn into the BGI board where posters are mentioning Scarborough or Elam. Because Steve created the thread they are convinced it has to be a 5 star.

"Planning visits" really means nothing. Lots of kids say they want to take 5 OVs and take onl 1. Kyle Allen was days away from visiting ND and cancelled to commit to A&M. Andrew Williams has "planned" about a hundred return visits to ND since his last one and not made them.

My money is on Watkins, Luatua, or Tranquil. Hendrix is a dark horse. Juju or Quick or anyone like that would be mind blowing.

Not McKenzie, IMO.

Twitter keeps suggesting I follow Quick. I wonder if that's a sign.

Hahaha seriously they are being ridiculous over there. Wiltfong neither said nor implied that it was a highly ranked recruit.

I agree with Lax, it's gotta be Tranquill (most likely, imo), Luatua or Watkins.

Logically IMO it would be that Tranquil is going to commit tomorrow or maybe even a Watkins and/or Hendrix commitment but I'm going to make a dark horse pick and say Allen Lazard.

It's probably incorrect but my logic is that his logic would be as much as ISU is part of his life past and present that no matter how good he is, is that he's not going to make the difference the but could be a significant at ND.

That and the fact the season for ISU has been horrendous and that the coaching staff may survive this season but how much longer can they survive being this bad?

So my logic of what his logic would be to drop the program that he's grown up a part of for ND is that he's coming to the conclusion while the staff is there now very likely won't be there for much longer.
