It matters because the angles are different in terms of the ball coming out of his hands, his blind spot is different ... basically having a lefty QB makes the passing offense backwards.
But I totally agree with you that, just in general, people sometimes overthink this. There have been plenty of successful left-handed QBs whose teams have been able to figure this out how to adjust to this. Steve Young and Michael Vick come immediately to mind. I'm sure there are others.
Tons of them.
I wouldn't mind if ND had a QB with a college career like that of Matt Leinart, or Tim Tebow
Guys like Pat White, Mark Brunell, Boomer Esiason, Ken "the Snake" Stabler, Jim Zorn and Scott Mitchell also come to mind.
