The way last spring felt compared to this spring is night and day. Feeling very good about this year for some reason. ;)

If Cam can run like he did in garbage time against some of the better D's we will face, then I have no problem with him being in the 2 deep. Some may think he is just a slow white boy but he is a bruiser and gets tough YAC. GAIII can be the lightening to Cam's thunder. GAIII hasn't proven just yet that he can run between the tackles where Cam has and GAIII can rip off 30+ yard runs to the outside. Obviously they both will have to hold off guys like Amir, Mahone, and in the fall 2 very talented freshmen. But I think Cam will surprise some people. I don't see him just getting on the field during garbage time this season. Kelly even mentioned last season that the only reason Cam didn't get more touches was because of the logjam at RB, not because he wasn't good enough.

When?

I really dig Cam, but if we're relying on him to be in the 2 deep, I'm not sure we're in a great position.

I'm not sure if GAIII really has what it takes for that matter. He ripped off some pretty good looking runs here and there, but he hasn't shown me a whole lot and we all know he's not the greatest receiving option in the world.

I'm sure we'll be fine, we have lots of talent back there, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking that someone has proven ND starting running back status yet. If we're just guessing based on upside, I think Amir and Bryant have just as good a chance to be starting as anyone we have.

Some good points here. I think Cam would work in the 2 deep if we needed him to be. The key is always the offensive line, and I think we're in a good position there. 5-6 years ago our running backs were having to make cuts in our own backfield because the blocking was so bad. Now we actually have a pretty decent run game and it's credit to the improvement along the line. We still have room to grow, but I'm liking what I'm seeing. If the O-line continues to improve I see no reason why Cam wouldn't do well. He's shown in limited reps that he can find the hole and he moves east and west more than north and south. Not saying he's definitely going to be in the two deep, but if thats where they have him then I'm sure he could do the job.

Okay. I will start today with a healthy discussion. My point is that Cam McDaniel deserves his shot and it does not mean that the program is in a bad state of affairs.

1) The first thing Cam brings to the table is leadership and football sense. Not that this will add to his stats, but it is there and we just can't get around it. He is a senior leader in a rs junior package.

2) Does anyone here know how fast or explosive Cam is? He is far from the slowest running-back on the team, or he was last year. And I believe his ten and twenty yard splits are among the fastest. His shuttle should be the fastest. Remember, this kid in high school had a shuttle time faster than any wide receiver in the NFL combine that year.

3) He is the best cut-back runner we have had in a while. Yeah, that is a point in and of itself. That makes him a necessity in a zone blocking offense.

4) Is closely associated to three. He more than any other running back in the program, (other than possibly Amir Carlisle), has shown an ability to use his blockers to their fullest advantage. (Neal ain't too bad, but he uses his [blinding] speed so I can't really rate him.) Cam rides his blockers like a surfer rides a wave. He could be invaluable for the possession control, which he showed against Miami in a brilliant drive last year. He gained something like 55 yards and scored a touchdown when Miami knew he was getting the ball, and he did it without all of the offensive starters. I believe we scored on two second team drives, (Robby Toma) but before that, when did our second team last score? There are times this coming year we will undoubtedly need to demonstrate possession control, and I don't believe we have a better man for it than Cam.

That's 2! Mistakes today! LOL.

Of course you are correct. Now take the alternative stance, while I go buy a want add for a dozen fact checkers!

Amir Carlisle

If he plays like this, defenses aren't even going to see him. If we have Neal too?!?!? Pick your poision, we can get real big, then light 'em up deep. WOW!

Chris Brown looked thicker

What did they say he gained? Another ten pounds, something like 16 altogether. I may be wrong on that total but he looked bigger, without slowing down a step!

Been drooling over Amir for two years. If that ankle is healthy it's a burst on this team we just didnt have last year.

Let's calm down people.. He has not did a thing on the field yet.

I don't see anything wrong with getting excited about seeing a player run at full speed after being out for basically a full year with various injuries including nerve damage in his ankle.

He's quick and he's fast. Rare for an ND player according to Mike Mayock.

I don't know about you guys but that highlight of reminded me a lot of Darren Sproles catching it out of the backfield. Carlisle is going to be a nightmare and will be getting mismatches all game long.

Nice full speed grab by Farley on the overthrown pass too.

He was my most likely starter to get replaced next year. If he can keep developing those ballhawking skills I don't see that happening anymore.

Let's just try not to think about which QB threw it...
