Nah, I think he's ok with his situation.

Well no doubt. I would be too, but the fact that Urban wanted to poach a fellow ND commit and not me would irk me. I'd be pissed that I didn't get to yell "**** NO! GO IRISH!" in his face when he offered me. lol

I'm excited to get this kid. I think he is going to be a solid RB for our system. Can't wait to get him in pads at ND

Overpsychologizing by me, but I played a LOT of BBall over the years, and the guys that WANTED to take the game winning shot --- I mean really actually wanted to --- were few and far between, AND there was something about them --- pure "I will do it" self-confidence. If Big Will is that sort of athlete, then we've even got more going here than we thought.

"Give me the ball, coach; I'll send these turkeys home cryin' ".

ah, memories ....back in the day of the peachbaskets ....

Says a lot about a guy who can take the chance of failure in concert with a chance at victory. Especially when done with selflessness.

Goosebump-inducing thought OMM.

I imagine a goal line set in, 4th and inches for the NC.

A certain "Will" in the backfield...

He may be a walking double entendre.

The best part in this is how he talks about how Chris Brown ran a 4.44 at the UA Combine and Mahone ran a 4.76.... but Mahone was clocked at 1.58 over the first 10 yards to Brown's 1.59. Mahone has a really good future as a between the tackles runner if he adds 10 pounds. He already runs with tremendous quickness through the hole and strength.

I think Amir Carlisle is the back of the future for ND because of his gamebreaking speed with Mahone getting some significant work in certain situations unless we land Ty Isaac.

Well Lax, i think he becomes 1 of the best rbs in ND history. A smaller Maurice Clarett, perhaps even a freshman and championship Clarett impact-oh you like the sound of that dont you :)

Its unfortunate he is not an EE, i can only hope Kelly doesnt waste more time on Riddick(he does nothing for me)

What I saw here was:
1). extremely patient runner at the hand-off. Reviews the whole line of scrimmage, then goes. That worked very well with the way his line would stymie initial rushes, but sudden straight-ahead power decisions might have to be learned [very similarly to Jonas]. Getting Jonas to give him some "old man insight" would be good strategy --- Bettis---> Gray ---> Mahone; "this is how you do it, son".

2). He has fortunately for that running style, great geo-spatial intelligence [translation: he not only sees the situation of the moment, but senses how it's going to develop]. This lets him make good choices. When Kelly's offense is running correctly, the running plays mostly have this "look and then accelerate" character. Although he sometimes looks to be walking through plays, those are those where he is patiently letting the blocking materialize [or his line has opened the opponent up like the Red Sea]. It is obvious on many plays that when the burst is called for, it is there. Reminds me of Floyd in that way --- as good a "burst" as anyone, just can't continue to accelerate like an Atkinson.

3). Runs into the second level and then rarely displays a "beat-you-up" power mentality, but does something more valuable. He has an instinctive "dead/limp" leg technique, like that Jim Brown made famous, of giving you a target briefly then melting it away, leaving you holding nothing and the run continuing. Was surprised at how good he was at this, and that as a big man he had developed it as a primary technique. College DCs will notice this, of course, and warn their LBs/DBs about it, so we'll have to see how it translates when he gets here.

Overall I saw a very good back for Kelly's offense, and if he can do two things [ run the blast play and pick up blitzes] he'll be a great one.

I bet I could beat both those guys in the first ten yards. :)

My initial burst is elite. haha

My top end speed is definitely not.
