I'm torn, I would love for the Bears to get Te'o at 50 but don't want to hear about how far he is falling the entire time. AND the Bears will probably take another ridiculious pick and pass on the obvious player anyways

according to last night's draft...cinci had eifert in their mock draft and he was available..that's who they wanted the whole time

That is who they hoped to get, but I don't think they really believed he would still be there. I think the Jets messed up at 13 and the Bills at 16... Manuel might become a good quarterback, but he is a project at best. Eifert should have been gone in that 10-20 range. He's going to a pretty good team, congratz Tyler.

My top possible destinations for Teo:

Philly, Jets, Cinci, or hopefully a contender trades up... So many landmines in the early part of round 2.

Philly just got DiMeco Ryans from Houston and Cincy has Burfict and Malaluga....Don't think he's on either of their radars, IMO

Honestly, doesn't matter when he goes now. He's a 2nd rounder whether he goest 1st or 20th. It matters what he's doing 5 years from now, not where he's picked.

Personally, I'd love for him to go to a team of the Bear's caliber.

Can't help but feel bad for Geno Smith. It's not really his fault he's not that good, but the league & ESPN has to pump up the #1 QB to get viewers. Now he looks like a failure even though he wasn't a first round talent to begin with.

Great point....Blame ESPN for that.

True that. I will never understand teams drafting mediocre QB's. (Browns? Jags?) There's just no point. Especially in the first round when you can get an actual difference maker.

Sorry about my lack of NFL personnel knowledge. I love the NFL but I love CFB more, and so Sundays were my 'study days' so I obviously suck at this 'where could he go' stuff, lol.

Dude had 120 tackles last year...not bad.

I mean, what does Te'o do that is different that what Rey does? I think they're very similar.

Rey has had issues with consistently tackling the ballcarrier for the past three years, and generally seems lost at times. His tackling numbers are good, but could be WAY better. And his pass coverage is simply abysmal... if I had a quarter for every time he was getting beat by a RB or TE by 8+ yards on a route, I would have replaced Mike Brown by now. Teo would be an upgrade in pass coverage, though he still has plenty of work to do, and would be a definite upgrade in consistency and in diagnosing plays.

EDIT: plus, they just got Harrison, but he's old. I'd like for them to grab Teo and see how Rey does at outside backer as a worst case scenario. Though I think they would take Lacy/Bernard at RB before addressing LB.

Mike Mayock's big board was scary accurate. 27 of his top 32 prospects went in the 1st, and he called Manuel to the Bills and Pugh to the Giants right before they happened. He's definitely got good connections.

I wouldn't say the whole time, I think the idea was that they were ecstatic that a talent like Eifert was still there since Vaccaro and Reid were gone.

Of course, the staff also seems to have a fascination with Chris Crocker, which I cannot understand for the life of me, so they like to ignore safety knowing that Crocker is a viable fallback option.

That is who they hoped to get, but I don't think they really believed he would still be there. I think the Jets messed up at 13 and the Bills at 16... When they did their mock draft on where they thought people would go EIFERT was available for them...which is what they wanted...turns out their mock was accurate and were able to get him.....I'm sure they had eifert 1a and someone else 1b as a just incase but eifert was who they wanted 1st

Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Manti Te'o, Tyrann Mathieu all part of ESPN's draft hype promo. None drafted in 1st round

I think they thought that could happen. Sets up a reason to watch tonight for a lot of fans that tune out after the first round.

Kyle Long started 4 college games and got drafted 20th overall!

And Ansah (sp?) at 5 to Lions has only started 9. Ridiculous.

My guess...

I think Teo ends up in the Nati w/ Eifert.

I wish the Lions would take then 1 pick prior, but I think they go WR and possibly Hunter from Tenn.

As if during the season it isn't bad enough to be a Lions fan, draft time cones and it's more disappointment.

truth be told this 2nd round will be more exciting than the first IMO.

talent here equal to lot of the 1st rounders, and way better "storylines" and interesting situations than round 1.

Is Mathieu going to go in the second round? I thought most "experts" had graded him as a 3rd rounder.

Whoever takes him needs to institute monthly drug tests as part of his contract. I think he'll be a steal anywhere in the third round pending his "addiction."

This -- If Cincy walks away with Teo or Lacy, this team is stacked and my Bills (or should i say my former Bills) need to take their game plan and copy it... Teo is a huge upgrade but how can you argue with Lacy just pounding on a traditionally stout defensive (Pitt and Bal) conference? They cant go wrong with either pick.... Being this close to Cincy, I hope its Teo and I can save on shipping costs for my two jerseys lol

As an Irish fan I want Teo for obvious reasons, but as a Bengals fan it makes sense too. They have BJGE and just extended Bernard Scott (though I don't know why), so RB is "set" a bit more than LB. They could extend Green-Ellis or take a RB to develop late, or even with their second 2nd-round pick. Harrison is old and Rey is bad, so I think LB/S is a bigger need than RB, though I couldn't really argue with Lacy considering the AFC North.

Yes I know. It just surprised me a little bit that he wan't gone by then. There were at least 4 teams that needed a TE badly in the 10-20 range. It was hard to take anything for granted yesterday. It was not a very predictable draft to say the least.

I'll say this though, thank goodness the Browns drafted him so he'll never be good enough to force me to try and learn how to pronounce that name...

On Manti:
1]. he was a truly great college football player who earned every award he got; and he was a truly great person despite being painfully socially naive and sheltered [paradoxically] by his culture, religion, introspective personality;

2]. college accolades mean exactly ZERO to NFL GMs. They are not emotional fools but football-savvy businessmen; Te'os future election to the college football Hall-of-Fame [anyone doubt it?] means nothing to them [and shouldn't];

3]. the soap opera which stuff people, even on this board [weirdly], continue to mention, also means nothing to the GMs. It has been thoroughly vetted by the best NFL insider commenters that the GMs have NO issues with Manti Te'o's "character". Why even IE members continue to ignore this frequently stated fact is puzzling;

4]. It is well-known that ILBs rarely are drafted in the first round, just like TEs are rarely so. Tyler Eifert broke the mold just because he is a total stud who is riding the wave of an NFL offensive philosophy revolution. I'm not sure if any other TE did. Te'o did not break the mold and we were warned many times as to why.

Despite all our love for Manti, the more realistic among us knew for quite some time that his coverage skills [though improved somewhat --- don't throw the number of intercepts out there as a contrary; closely evaluate each of those and you will see that, though good plays, almost none were because of NFL speed] were deficient on the elite scale.

Commentators going into the draft were divided into two almost equal groups --- those who deeply liked Manti as a person and were rooting for him [Kiper, Gruden, Mayock], and those who didn't who would irritate us by saying that he was not a three-down linebacker "and you don't draft those in the first round".

5]. Manti has fallen victim to the same problem that Kelly is trying to address at the elite college level: The defenses will be spread by the offenses and every position on the defense will have to cover more space [except Big Lou, who "covers significant space" just as he is]. Kuechley is the "new" middle linebacker. Te'o is the old. They are both the best of their breed.

Manti will be drafted and he will play a lot of NFL ball. Unless he can prove that his instincts can make up for his deficiency in speed-into-space coverage, he will "only" be a great run-stopping ILB [and blitzer; and "intuitive" screen blower-upper], but not an intermediate distance pass-deflector. This is why he is in the second round, not Lannae Kekua or some other baloney.

It's not really ESPN's fault either that there's a big difference between marquee college names and the priorities of NFL GMs, especially in a year with few standout skill position players.
ESPN's just trying to drive interest. They can't do that hyping an offensive lineman from Central Michigan.

This is why I despise ESPN. What circus? The guy just wants to play football. ESPN/Media did the same thing with Tebow (being in NY didn't help) by making him into a circus by discussing his every move. I really hope Manti can go somewhere, hopefully a smaller market, and just play without being tormented by the media.

ESPN didn't drive it. They were getting huge ratings on something that was, admittedly, like a messed up real life soap opera. Ratings drive coverage...i.e., viewers get what they want. I'm not sure why ESPN is to blame.

Do you think NFL fans tuned into ESPN every day to get their daily Tim Tebow news? Fans didn't want that, ESPN was force feeding it to everyone.
