Pff Jack Nolan thinks he can waltz his way back into our hearts after being a practical no-show throughout spring ball. It aint that easy Jack...

I haven't seen a new ND windbreaker or fleece in damn near a year!

Who does this man think he is, playing with our hearts as if we are harps, simply here for his amusement?

Damn you, Jack Nolan... Damn you to hell...

Kelly had a giddy "I know something you don't know" smile when he was talking about the freshman skill players.

He certainly did, didn't he?

He almost laughed or at least giggled aloud when he tried to say the skill players may find the field first.

Also, Kelly meets with the press on Friday, August 2nd.

Nolan showing how out of touch he is with the "there are freshmen that the fans wouldnt know about but you will" line. Somebody needs to show him what Rivals/24-7 is.

I think Jack is right. I would bet that at least 70% of fans either follow recruiting very little or not at all

Right. A lot of my ND friends think I'm crazy for following recruiting. Their view is that no matter how good a guy is in high school, no one has any idea how good he'll be in college, so why waste time getting excited about recruits. Just wait and see who actually produces on the field.

But then these same people want to sit by me when we watch ND games because, when a freshman or former benchwarmer starts making plays for the first time, they want the benefit of my knowledge of the roster. Freeloaders.

There are fans and then there are those of us who frequent a forum dedicated to our team. We are that different level.

^ there has been a lot of really good talk about Grace coming from a lot of different places. It is awesome to think people have said he could be better than T'eo. Not that I think he was flawless but if he is better than Manti with two years remaining we could be talking about 1st round draft pick right?

Read this today so I'll share.

lol, this is so true. There's this girl I know who every Saturday last fall would post about the ND game on Facebook and proclaim to be the biggest ND fan in the world. Our sons played on the same baseball team this spring so I talked to her about it one day. This is how the convo went:

Me: So, Facebook tells me you're a big ND fan.
Her: OMG yes, I love them.
Me: Yes, me too.
Her: No, I don't think you understand. I'm like their biggest fan.
Me: Oh, really? What did you think about their recruiting class this year?
Her: Ummm, I don't really follow recruiting. Who did they get?

I then proceeded to go through each player, position, hometown and added a superlative about each player. I got through about 7 or 8 guys and her jaw was on the floor. Point is, we are definitely that different level. I would guess the percentage is much closer to 95-97% that don't follow recruiting or frequent forums dedicated to the program.

There is something I like about most of your posts, and I just figured out what it was. They are mostly honest and accurate, true representations so to speak. This is a perfect view of different perspectives.

That's interesting. In my experience women are notorious for this -- becoming HUGE fans of a team, in the sense that they get emotionally wrapped up in its fortunes, without actually knowing much about the team. Sometimes I wonder if some people like this, men and women, really care about the team at all or if they just like the idea of having a team to care about.

And I suppose there's nothing wrong with it either way. That we follow recruiting and she doesn't ... does it mean that we are "bigger" fans than that woman? I don't think it means that we like ND football more, get more excited when ND wins or more upset when it loses. It just means that we find a different aspect of ND football interesting ... we are interested in the process in addition to the on-field final product.

Or, on the other hand, maybe it means that we ARE bigger fans, in the sense that we hunger for something to do with ND football even in the off-season, whereas she is able to put it out of her mind when the games aren't actually happening.

I wonder about this sometimes because I find some people seem kind of offended by my recruiting knowledge, as if they they are insulted by some tacit implication that I'm a bigger fan than they are. That always annoys me. Sometimes I wanna say to these people, I'm not judging you. You follow ND in your way and I'll do it in mine. It's all good.

Or it could just men that they are bigger fans.

Ha, right! I think the biggest ND fan in the world, in terms of how much it matters to him, is my six-year-old nephew ... and he knows ****-all about recruiting.

we deserve victory so much more than them

I'm not saying we are better, simply that we dedicate more time and energy to our support of ND football. There can be different levels of involvement but it doesn't mean others are lesser.

I saw it on reddit and laughed and laughed and laughed. I don't know how long, but it was awhile before I stopped watching. I said to myself, "I should make this my sig on IE. They'll all get a great chuckle." Working as intended.

I'm not sure if women or men are generally considered more invested in a team on a whole, but is there anyone more invested in Arky than LizHoney?
