As a vikings fan, Harrison Smith might help us more than Kalil next year. Hope he steps in as a leader of our secondary!

two things have he stunned

1.) Why did the browns trade so many picks to move up one spot to get a running back in a passing league that they prob. gotten have gotten without moving anywhere,... then use their other first round pick to take a 28 year old QB in the first round.....
That's why the Browns are the Browns everyone!!

2.) How in the world did Harrison Smith go in the first round... love our boys... all of them... happy for him... but really???

Got out of class late, and just saw the draft picks. I'm sure this has been discussed.

But...

Bruce Irvin?!

Answer to number one is they were worried someone was going to trade up to take Richardson.

1 - The vikings leaked to both the Bucs and the Browns that they wanted Richardson. The Bucs decided to try and trade up and the Vikes told the Browns and they made a better offer.

2 - Everyone quit hating on Smith!!! He's my boy!

First time since '94 that two ND players went in the first round. Wow.

The '94 draft ('93 season) was the last recruiting class ND Recruiting Coordinator Vinny Cerrato brought in. Holtz was at ND for 3 more seasons after that draft but he didn't have Cerrato restocking talent since the 1990 Recruiting Class. Without Cerrato's talent Holtz's last 3 seasons were 6-5-1, 9-3, 8-3 for a .5857 Winning Percentage.

Compare those 3 years with his successors.

Holtz .6714
Davie .5833
Willingham .5833
Weis .5642
Kelly .6154

Applying Holtz Winning Percentage with lessor talent ('94, '95, '96) he would have to his successor seasons Holtz would have won:

1.0 more games per year than Davie
1.0 more games per year than Willingham
1.3 more games per year than Weis
.75 more games per year than Kelly

Holtz record with Cerrato's recruits was 77-20-1 for a .7908 Winning Percentage. Holtz had 9.5 Wins per 12 game season with Cerrato's guys and 7.0 Wins per 12 game season without Cerrato's guys.

Success at ND requires a great coach AND a plethora of talent. Looking at the numbers above the talent was more significant (about 1.5 Wins per season) than the coach (about 1.0 Wins per season).

Notre Dame will probably have two first-round draft picks next year too, depending on if a team really needs a receiving TE or not.

Two years of two first round picks will certainly help a program out on the recruiting trail against the SEC.

At least it's a place to start.

(I agree with you Buster)

We're braggin about 2 first round picks right now, but scale it back over the last 8 years..

Oklahoma, USC, Miami, Florida State...

They've KILLED us in 1st round picks, and that's not being negative, it's true....

I like where we are headed, and the fact BK turned potential into production, but we have a bit to go

So Eifert and Te'o likely go first round next year. Who else? If Big Lou kills it this year is he a first rounder? Any chance Zach Martin has a great year and moves up to first round consideration? Left tackles are highly regarded, we shall see.

Big Lou is struggling to be the starter this year. He would need a HUGE year IMO to be drafted that high. I still think he needs 2 more solid years of college to develop mentally.

Like Bruce Irvin? I think ND is preparing him just fine to deal with whatever comes his way in life. The same can not be said (IMO) of Irvin and WV. It only takes one team to feel as if the player is first round worthy and Big Lou has huge upside and tons of natural talent. This staff will continue to coach him up (as they will with the O Line) and who knows where they end up.

First, big ups to Mike Floyd and Harrison Smith. Congrats boys!

Next:

Mother****ing son of a bitch. Stupid ****ing **********. You gotta be shittin me! A ****ing project QB at eight.

I feel your pain mgriff. But look on the bright side: Tannehill should immediately challenge for the #2 WR spot over Hartline. If he beats out Hartline we can start calling him "Slash" Tannehill...that has a great ring to it.

Other than that, this pick was hard to swallow as a Fins fan. Don't get me wrong. Tannehill is a great athlete with a big arm. He could turn into a great NFL QB if he can adjust to the speed of the game (he could become merely a more athletic Chad Henne). This pick is awful because it was the 8th pick of the draft. WAY TOO EARLY FOR THIS GUY. Could the Dolphins have traded back and gotten this guy? Absolutely...and that's what kills me. Lots of teams drafting 9-20 that were not looking for a QB. Gruden at one point mentioned the Fins shopping the 8th pick. I feel like the front office just didn't know how to create buzz for the pick 8th...Maybe Jeff Ireland could do an internship with Rick Spielman this summer to see how trading back works.

YUMMMMMM!!!!

This plate of crow tastes delicious....

I deserve every thing you guys throw at me. I said Harrison wouldn't sniff the first round. But there is always a team dumb enough to draft special teams that high, I guess.

So let me have it.
