In Bovada.lv's final preseason odds, #NotreDame goes off at 40-1 to win college football national title. 12 teams with better odds ...

Should I ask the wife before I take out a mortgage and bet it all? or should I surprise her?

Nah, after the second loss just surprise her with the Mayflower moving van. Honey I have decided we need to move to a 1 bedroom apartment in Compton to make us appreciate the good things we had.

ESPN's PTI - Talking about Kelly's comment about playing in Ireland. Generally bashing Kelly. A$$holes

Kornheiser asked Wilbon if he's down on Notre Dame. Wilbon says "As always!"

I'm just glad that Kelly isn't giving us the Weis routine that Navy's offense was unstoppable, so ND had to score every time we had the ball.

It was a new low in ND football.

I'll be surprised if we don't beat them by 21+ points.

This makes so much sense; instead of having game captains this year. Adding Zack is brilliant move. What good shape the leadership on this team is in.

Watching this was brutal. I saw "Notre Dame" coming up on the little side ticker and decided to stay on ESPN and see what they had to say. They proceeded by ripping on BK and ND, and failing to make even one comment about the obvious reasons for which someone would not want to play a game in Ireland. I just flipped off the tv (in both senses) and went to class. It couldn't have been a more one-sided mudslinging and it was a disgusting thing to watch.

Sadly, most 'reporters' on ESPN just yell a lot. Hardly do any fact checking or any actual reporting/analyzing. PTI (has gotten worse over time), Skip Bayless, Reilly..you can take something they say, Google it and come up with actual fact faster then they try to.

There are very few guys that I will listen to talk on ESPN:

Trent Dilfer, Jon Gruden, Mike Tirico, SVP, Orel Hershiser, Hubie Brown, Nessler/Blackledge..there are a few more, just not important enough to remember I guess.

The rest I put inline. This part about a beastly CAT. Kelly just said Romeo is a DOG, and that he has a lot of growing to do before he moves out of the DOG position. If you want to test my logic, which is rarer someone with all the skills who can play DOG, a CAT backer who can rush or cover the run, or a Defensive end? Right a DOG linebacker is the rarest. So why would a coach want to give that up to fill a few fans fantasies? He wouldn't.

I guess I just don't like hearing, "That simply isn't true . . . " I have never treated you that way.

Romeo is a freshman, a young one at that, he has a lot of growing to do period, that is hardly a valid point. Kelly basically just told you what I am saying, Romeo is not staying at DOG, he is there for depth and to get bigger and stronger in order to be a pass rusher.

Romeo is a DOG right now Bog, I am not arguing that, I know what Kelly said, you seem to be missing the point ENTIRELY. The move to DOG was for DEPTH and could very easily be changed, especially when the DOG position has Councell, Spond, Smith, and Mattingly in the depth chart next year. That is my whole point in this debate bog, Romeo will probably NOT stay at DOG, based on what his skill-set is and who is coming in next year. DOG had very little depth this year, especially with the Spond situation. And stop saying the line about Kelly saying he is going to special in pass coverage, he also said he had two BCS QBs last year. Romeo is very young still, he WILL grow and put on muscle with Longo.

Here are his recruiting profiles:
ESPN - DE (Pass rusher) Football Recruiting - Romeo Okwara - Player Profiles - ESPN
Scout - DE (Pass rusher) Scout.com: Romeo Okwara Profile
Rivals - WDE (Pass rusher) Romeo Okwara - Yahoo! Sports
247 - WDE (Pass rusher) Romeo Okwara

How does that make you think he was recruited for anything other than being a DE/CAT?
Again Bog, I am not saying Romeo is a bad player, he is simply playing a position that does not suit his strengths. If you think Romeo is good at DOG, you may 'get your O face going' if you see him at CAT/DE.

Wow, bery, that's a great point. Wouldanevethought to look for that. I am too busy dodging people taking pictures of me, mowing my lawn.

Seriously though; why would we use a four man front against Navy?

You would use the 4 man front against Navy to stop the FB dive. The 2 DTs line up in the A gaps (between center and guard) and have the sole responsibility to stop the FB dive plays. The problem with doing the single DT against Navy is that if your DT can be blocked one on one then it leaves the other 2 interior lineman free to get to the second level and block the ILBs. Now if your DT forces double teams be being disruptive than the one DT can be effective as well. I am generally a fan of the 4-4-3 against option teams like Navy, Army, Airforce and GT.

Yea but the staff doesn't use scout and rivals, or at least I hope not.

Just picking this out of the Arnold article -

The fact Schwenke is pushing Nix at DT is not only surprising, but a very positive indicator for the season. Consider if you would rather have one really good DT or two above average ones? With two above average, they can go balls to the wall every snap knowing they will get a breather. Not exactly a highly conditioned position which makes the rotation/depth there that much more important.

t’s starting to look like Romeo Okwara is too good of an athlete to keep off the field. After seeing how the Irish staff handled star freshmen Stephon Tuitt and Aaron Lynch, I don’t expect any freshman to make an overwhelming amount of big plays, if only because it’ll be difficult for them to earn opportunities, with the staff more worried about players being assignment capable and not physically dominant.

Just shows you how smart Kelly and his staff are and how smart these guys are not:

I guess it is just time to sit back, get some fun between your legs and wait to see how things turn out.

That is righ! We did it last year with the db on one side and the lb on the other mirroring the pitch man. Thank you so much I just couldn't get that straight. I should have looked up articles on last year's game. You the man!

And then add Springman . . .

I hope I can say he will be well above average without touching anything off.

I haven't really seen anything on Springman. Is he projected for anything more than garbage time this year? Seems between Tuitt sliding over on four man fronts and Nix getting solid competition from Schwenke, the NT is pretty well accounted for during prime time. If Springman gets meaningful reps this year that can only mean he is exceeding expectations.
