Well, he is a sophomore. He redshirted his freshman year, preserving eligibility. So he is still a Soph with the (RS) qualifier to indicate that he has preserved a year. That is how I've understood it, but maybe I was wrong. Either way, he is a sophomore in school with four years of eligibility remaining.

Things used to be much simpler a few years back when we used to have only 1 or 2 defensive line recruits show interest in us. Oh those were the days.

Right you are. We have plenty of time to grab a stud NT. I don't agree with the decision, but like I said, I'm sure there's a good reason. If Nix is all he's cracked up to be, he (Schutt) would be a back up NT for 2-3 years anyways. Something tells me we can land a 5-star NT by then.

I have calmed down a bit but I have to say that this very ****ing dumb IMO. You just don't turn down that kind of talent. I wish I never clicked on the thread.

If he's used zero elegibility, then he's a redshirt fresh, no? He's class 2010.

He's not a redshirt freshman at ND. ND goes by your class year. Freshman, Soph, Jr, Sr, 5th Year. That's not new.

Between Day, Jones and
Schutt threads this is the most fun I've had on here since the Lynch saga.

Holtz turned down Jevon Kearse for a 3 star OL career backup.

That's where the "I trust the coach" gets thrown out the window.

A great coach like Holtz obviously made a mistake.....this here could be another.

At least in some of our eyes it is a mistake.

So now the real recruiting season starts, huh?

The Day, Jones, Schutt Saga begins...

Pipe dreams man.

I never imagined we'd take 25 DEs last year either.

That's my logic, which has foundation.

25? Foundations in what?

Just got word that Tommy Schutt will no longer be visiting Michigan. The staff asked him not to. Things could be developing in AA.

WTF?

I think this is a good guess. Hansen reported that Springmann is his big sleeper for this class based upon preliminary reports.

Don't you get it by now? Everybody Kelly recruits is a sleeper. These are some highly motivated guys. Kelly will have them ready, willing, and able to walk through walls.

If Kelly gets a five-star, be assured that he is only a five-star because they haven't invented six-stars yet.

Just coming in (finals week... natually at the library) but guys we need to calm down. After our recruiting class with the DLine last year, plus our Day commitment yesterday and (hopefully) a Jones silent/soon commitment we are FINE. Not that I would would have turned down Schutt if I were BK & staff but it's not the end of the world.

Now if we would have taken a 3 star yesterday instead of a 5 star, THEN told Tommy sorry but there is no room, I would have been pissed. But we have probably 2 5 star DLineman this year to go along with our class which had studs & I am fine leaving the scholarship open for a skill player.

Also, you have to feel kinda good that we have enough talent and our coaching staff feels fine turning away 5 star players. I don't think that's happened in a log, long time.

I am so angry. Just doesn't make sense. There are transfer possibilities. We have 3 scholarship kickers. We have guys (that I will not name) that are either career underperformers or 2* recruits or what have you.

Turning away an elite NG/NT/DT prospect is ridiculous. And why (along with no JUCOs) why will always be at a competitive disadvantage to the Alabamas of the world.

Well I didn't see the "No, you shouldn't come visit" coming.
