How easy should it be for the Lions to simply not pick...
Apparently it's pretty fucking difficult

He’s likely going to be extremely productive there with Garoppolo and that offense. Raiders got a steal.
If Steelers didn't hit on Freiermuth a couple years ago I think they would have taken himAS A RAIDER FAN IM SO FUCKING EXCITED!!!!!!!
Watching that trade happen was fun... Buncha yo yos let him fall to us. He's gonna look good in Silver and Black.
Exactly why I wrote "testing athleticism" as a qualifier. I think Mayer's going to be a very good pro, I just understand why things went the way they did for him. Round 2 is for guys like him because of the salary cap and the 5th year for 1st rounders.I think the point is that "testing" athleticism and "on the field" athleticism are actually two different things but some people think the testing numbers are more objective and, thus, more valuable. I think a lot of us think that's just really dumb. The testing numbers should basically be treated as pass/fail. A lot of us think on-the-field athleticism is much, much more important and the testing numbers should really only be factored in if some numbers are much lower than expected.
Mayer is an elite route runner and has elite ball skills. It's extremely difficult to cover him. The testing numbers won't show that and that's why they shouldn't matter as much.
Hes competent. Not a rockstar. He'll get plenty of volume there. Are they closer to being good than I think?
I didn’t think Garoppolo was a needle-mover, but maybe I’m just out of touch with the NFL outside of the AFC North
They’re not going to be great, but ole noodle-arm Jimmy is going to dump a lot of 8-10 yard passes off to MM.Are they closer to being good than I think?

Going back to your original post, when you say "you understand why" you also seem to be saying you agree with the logic that a lot of GMs used to pass on MM in the 1st round. I agree with IrishLax. I think they often use dumb reasoning. That's the point I was making.Exactly why I wrote "testing athleticism" as a qualifier. Okay sorryShut the fuck up
YupAs a Lions fan, I am crushed.
The salary cap requires financial considerations to trump pure football ones sometimes. For me 1st round positions are QB, Pass Rusher, LT, CB. Unless there's someone at another position who demands to be taken, I've got a team to build from the lines out and cap to manage.Going back to your original post, when you say "you understand why" you also seem to be saying you agree with the logic that a lot of GMs used to pass on MM in the 1st round.
