I'd be kind of shocked if he could run a 4.65 at his current weight. (265?) He's quicker than fast, to quote that guy.
I’d take him back on the broadcasts.

Also, Bowers isn’t even the best TE on his team.

I m still puzzled about Mayer in the NFL-that league is a different cat-if used correctly he could be a star-BUT as far as college this guy is hands down the best TE in the country and if he doesnt win the award it makes the award a joke-the guy blocks runs TE routes at the college level in a predigest manner-he is the best at his position in the country period. If you make from McAfee to all the other great TE thru the years move over you are the best Notre Dame has produced at the college level.

Boils down to which team ends up drafting him. If he goes to a team like the Bengals with a good QB, he should be fine. If he goes to the Texans, he’s screwed.

Mayer is the complete package. He really wasn't that good a blocker until this year. When determined that the way we would win is to RTDB he became much more important as a blocker and he really stepped it up. TE blocking is of supreme importance in an offense like ours.

Absolutely and he worked and coached himself into a great one-what a player and he gets that big body open while screening off the smaller guy-Notre Dame needs this award thru him for the future TE 's recruited. He's our horse.

Absolute legend in a program with many incredible TEs. He takes the cake.

Came in with a lot of hype, and outperformed it. What a terrific player who really grasped the nuances of the position in terms of route running, and really improved as a blocker. Another outstanding young man. Notre Dame was better for having Michael Mayer, and so will the NFL starting next year.

Hope he can make it back to ND for a game next year so the fans can give him a standing O. He’s truly a Notre Dame legend.

Mackey Award finalists:

Bowers
LaPorta
Mayer

Offensive numbers:

Bowers: 46 rec., 645 yards, 5 TD; 6 rushes, 93 yards, 3 TD
LaPorta: 53 rec., 601 yards, 1 TD
Mayer: 67 rec., 809 yards, 9 TD

I can't say how much blocking the other two do, but if Mayer doesn't win this something is up.

Bowers is an H-back type. A+ athlete, but not a blocker at all. LaPorta is an in-line Y TE, and will be a good pro. Mayer is the best TE in college football. He should win the award hands down this year, but Bowers has the highlight plays that will wow voters. Sadly, I expect Bowers to win it.
