It's hard to keep up with the 4 different DC/Staff threads going right now. Who's Coach Meat.

Stud recruiter. Handled Cali for Sark at Washington then LA and South Texas for UCLA.

It feels like he should go to Michigan State and be their new S coach. He's an alum.

Williams with his first 2 CB's for A&M.

So you’re following a DC that is at his third school in three years and has shown his decision is based primarily on the Benjamin’s . What’s the chance he will be there all four years?

...about as much chance as Williams being there for four = low

https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Article/Notre-Dame-visits-2019-five-star-safety-Brian-Williams-114240328

On Friday, Notre Dame made its way to Texas to see the No. 1 safety in the class of 2019.

According to a source, Irish Illustrated and 247Sports have been informed that special teams coordinator Brian Polian was at Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne high school this morning, which happens to be the home of five-star safety Brian Williams, the No. 13 overall recruit in the 2019 class.

Notre Dame has long been considered one of the top contenders for the No. 2 player in Texas, but there is stiff competition from Texas A&M, Texas, Stanford, Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State and just about every other top program nationally.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball is currently in favor of the Longhorns, but there are also picks in for the Aggies, Fighting Irish and Cardinal.

Bishop Dunne is also home top 2019 Top100 wide receiver/defensive back Marquez Beason. Polian was checking in on the duo, as Notre Dame remains a player for both.

The 5-11, 175-pounder impressed recently at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Underclassmen Combine.

His offer list includes Notre Dame, Ohio State, Nebraska, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and others.

The in-state Longhorns lead according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

I think Polian is more concerned with Marquez Beason, the 2017 Texas 100m champ... as a soph.

Plus, their 2020 class is loaded too. Beason's younger brother is in that class along with a name to remember, LB Brennon Scott.

He's following a coach and a disloyal one at that. Unwise decision. Good luck though.

Seriously what are the odds Elko's still there at the start of this kid's sophomore year?

So let me get this straight Texas A&m isn't even in this kids top list yet Elko goes there and ends up landing him?! Which means he most likely woulda been Irish

Pretty good. He got his big bump, who's going to pay him more?

If Elko’s successful, he’s in line for a HC job (and he’s proven himself to be a mover). If he’s not, that contract becomes a huge weight around his (and Jimbo’s) neck, especially at a place with expectations like A&M’s.
I’d say at least 40% odds Elko only spends two seasons at A&M. At least 50% he’s gone after three.

If Elko does well (and aTm does too) I could see him in line to get a Rutgers, Maryland, BC, Pitt, Vandy, UNC type job. Could be 2 years if it's the right fit.

It’s a Texas kid committing to a Texas school. It’s not like he followed him to Idaho.

If I remember correctly, A&M wasn’t even in his top 3 when Elko was at ND. I don’t think he picked A&M because it’s close to home.

So he didn’t consider a school that was bad at defense. That school made a step to improve their defense and he considered them again? Sounds like a well reasoned decision.

Not salty. Committing to a school because of a coach is not a smart decision and there is a good chance that it could bite him in the future. I feel the same way when recruits commit to ND. I don’t want them to commit to Brian Kelly or a position coach, I want them to commit to the university.

So most of our OL over Hiestand’s watch made dumb decisions? Cause they sure as hell picked ND in large part because of coach. Must have missed those complaints over the years.

If they committed just because of HH, then yeah I don't think they made a smart decision. Luckily for them, HH was here for a long time.

I’d say congrats to Brian Williams for choosing Texas A&M. That school has a ton of pop and momentum right now and he seems to dig it. On the flip side, he’s turning down a full scholarship offer from Stanford, Notre Dame, Texas, UCLA, USC, and Michigan to go to Texas A&M. Those are some big time academic powers to be turning down, but if he has a nice career on Sunday's then it frankly doesn’t matter. Also, people on this board were mentioning how dynamite of a recruiter Clark Lea is becoming as the new DC, but Mike Elko is already making us miss him, that dude is a hell of a recruiter. Hats off to Elko, congrats to Brian, and I hope we beat TAMU for Nana, Hunter, and others in Texas.

If you're committing solely for an assistant coach, yeah, that's short-sighted and kind of dumb. Odds are pretty decent that you'll be at the school longer than they will.

Our OLs weren't coming here solely for Heistand. We got great OL recruits before Heistand and we'll get them after him, because Notre Dame has a lot to offer a smart young offensive lineman from the Midwest or Northeast (as most of ours are).

I doubt Williams is choosing A&M solely for Elko either. They're now a "hot" program, and close to home. He probably knows guys on the team. His relationship with Elko may have been the decisive factor. But hopefully it wasn't the only one.
