No chance for ND.

What do you mean? Is there any sourcing to this? If ND really has no chance then why would Tom Loy, Pete Sampson, and Kevin Sinclair not change their CB’s to Texas. I know Loy is posting CB’s almost every single day. If ND had no chance he’d call it a day and CB Texas.

I’m with you in principle, but it seems like there’s one recruitment every year that the services use as the big showdown between ND and another school. They keep the CB’s on ND or move to foggy, they “hear good things” from “someone on the staff,” they refute the negative info and say, “regardless of what’s happening, I just feel good about ND in this one.”

And after all of that, it turns out that ND never really had a chance, and everyone on the inside knew it was going to be the home-state school or the obvious favorite from the start, but the recruit was big enough and said enough in ND’s favor that the recruiting services use that to generate clicks, because the readers need to feel optimistic about those heated battles, or else they’ll stop coming back.

There’s not one every cycle necessarily, but more often than not there is. Is it Nana this cycle? I don’t think so, but who knows until he actually decides?

If he decides for Texas, why would that prove the people who claimed ND had no shot were right? A lot of these kids say different things to different people, and a lot are blown away by whoever they saw last.

I can’t really get behind this on the this specific recruitment because it’s ISD, thats the most optimistic. They don’t care about getting clicks from another program on their network.

And even if he doesn’t pick ND on May 19th, that doesn’t mean the above is true. I think it can be just as simple as he really likes both schools and picked to stay home. I mean, the family did travel on their own dime to Notre Dame. Outside of their alma mater, it’s by far their furthest destination for an unofficial visit.

FWIW, he has no idea what he’s talking about. He’s just being overly negative per usual. No information out there says ND has no chance.

To be fair, he said he didn’t think we were being strung along with Nana. But this recruitment bears some strong resemblance to Jeffrey McCulloch’s from a few years back. Loy kept giving us very positive news all the way towards NSD. It was only after that we learned that he was never really going to leave Texas.

I want to be clear that I don’t think this is one where we’re simply being strung along, which I mentioned in my OP. And even if he goes with Texas, it doesn’t mean the ND guys are just pumping sunshine.

I was making a general point about taking reports/tracking crystal Ball predictions with a grain of salt, because you can never be quite sure what’s legit and what is being put out there to maintain interest, that’s all.

Beware the Juju, that’s all I’m saying. And I’m saying it independent of what happens with Nana. There were two posts about the viability of what’s happening with the ND reporters and their predictions, so I thought I’d butt in lol.

This one feels like a case where we really did lead for a long time. Then Home State U. made a strong push. And when Home State U. is a big-time program, that can be hard to resist. We'll see where Nana lands, but it's not like we're a hat on the table and ND sites are just hyping our chances for clicks here.

ELE! EVERYBODY LOVE EVERYBODY. STILL GOT 12 HOURS TO GO ON THIS BUS TRIP.

Seriously, though, we’ve got a legit 50/50 shot here. ND has put themselves in good position to beat out the home-state school. Is it enough? We’ll see.

The post you quoted wasn’t in response to what Lion posted. It was in response to another poster saying we have, no chance.

I can get on board with that for sure. Lots of kids come out of an ND visit with every intention of committing, and then get worn down by the coaches and fans of hometown U over the next few months.

Interesting final line that I'd have guessed was the opposite when talking about ND's Drop.

State’s top pass rusher torn with decision looming

NaNa Osafo-Mensah is scheduled to commit to either Texas or Notre Dame on May 19. The four-star defensive end took his official visit to Notre Dame in April, leaving impressed. The Longhorns get their shot to host the 6-4, 227-pound pass rusher this weekend when he and his family travel to Austin.

Osafo-Mensah, the state’s No. 8-ranked player on the initial 2019 Fabulous 55, heads into the visit torn on his upcoming decision. He’ll be accompanied by his family and will arrive Friday afternoon and leave Sunday before taking two weeks to review his potential decision.

“It is a dead heat going into the official visit. I’d call it 50-50,” Osafo-Mensah said Sunday following The Opening regional camp at Euless Trinity. He walked away with the defensive line MVP award and was invited to The Opening Final at the end of June in Frisco. “If I was asked to commit right now, I couldn’t because I really don’t know.”

Osafo-Mensah couldn’t be blocked Sunday at The Opening camp. He raced past offensive tackles with ease, showcasing the speed around the edge that makes him a unique prospect with enormous upside at the college level. The Fort Worth Nolan Catholic star took the camp seriously and it paid off.

“This was a camp I was looking forward to because I was invited late last year and couldn’t attend one out of state,” he said. “I wanted the invite. I told my coach before I left that I was going to ‘Get Open’ and bring that invite back to Nolan Catholic. My school had a sports award ceremony last night, but I missed it to get some extra sleep.”

Both Texas and Notre Dame possess positives and negatives in the mind of Osafo-Mensah. Notre Dame is cold but offers more diversity in the student body with kids from all over the country, and world, converging on South Bend.

Osafo-Mensah pointed out that Texas’ student body is mostly native Texans, but the proximity to his home and the idea of living in Austin helps the Longhorns.

“This visit, I want to see my family’s reaction. They loved Notre Dame, and I know it’s not them going to college, but I still cherish my family and their opinion,” he said. “Both programs want me to do similar things, which is get after the quarterback. Texas asks its defensive ends to do more in coverage.

I remember Terry Jillary wanted to meet Father Hesburgh on his visit. Even with all of the banter about LSU and his visits there, I said that he would be Irish because of that simple statement. I feel the same way about Mensah and his comment about the student body. Like Jerry, he isn't the typical recruit. He's Irish!

Per EJ Holland, Texas 247 writer, his coach is heavily pushing UT (shocker) and apparently that plays a huge role in the decision. Personally, I think that is where the divided opinions come from. Do you believe the coach has that big a of a role here? I think it's pretty clear parents favor ND and friends/coaches prefer UT. Who are you listening to and who wins out depends on that.
