The kid is ranked high on espn my question is who on our board is ranked higher that we have a legit shot at

Not sure which WRs have committable offers but I really like Cornelius Johnson's film. 100% CBs. He isn't ranked as high but has much better film, IMO.

Just spitballin.....but the issue might have been the......... I am committing, not really committing, tweet....that came out of the blue.

That might have been the misstep that lead to this. It was a terrible way to commit....in fact worst possible way to commit to a program.

Why couldn't ND accept his commit? ND offered him therefore they should know something like this could happen. I like his film and think he may be able to play corner. The kid plays hard and has decent measurables. This makes ND look bad. . . .

Most kids would not be mature enough to handle a situation like this how he has.
Absolutely. I hope this kid tears it the fuck up somewhere. And if what TJ stated is accurate then I wouldn't mind TJ lighting up the ND D one day in Alexander's presence...so long as it's not at the cost of a W for the Irish.

Does he still have an offer from OSU? Any idea if they will accept him?

Another possible scenario is that ND accepted his commit but didn't know that he still planned on taking visits this fall. When he made that known in his announcement tweet, ND may have started having second thoughts and pressed him on the visit thing. TJ says OK, I won't take any visits. But the more the coaching staff thought about it, how much can we trust a commit that seemed to come out of nowhere and at least had a desire to take visits (even if he eventually agreed to not taking any visits).

I'm OK with cutting bait on this one as I wasn't totally convinced that he would stick anyhow.

Miscommunication on ND’s part makes them look bad. The good thing about this shows how mature he is. His parents should be proud.

I’ll have to do some reading to see what really happened when I am not on the phone.

This is dumb on ND’s part. If you don’t want him then tell him you’re moving on and he doesn’t have an offer anymore. And if he was a backup plan then don’t offer him in the first place! ND sits up there on the podium during signing day and says that every single one of their offers are commutable but they just clearly lied about that. Bad look. And if it has to do with the visits being made when he made his announcement then he should’ve gotten a call that very hour to let him know that that is not how ND operates. Either way you look at it, ND bungled this one. Bad optics, poor communication, and piss poor job on ND’s part.

Eh... idk. He's essentially calling out and blaming Alexander.

I'm not really sure who to blame here. Might be one of those situations where no one really did wrong by anyone else. Notre Dame stopped contacting him from what we've heard, but it's not like they call kids up and say they're moving on, most kids would have taken the no contact as "message received." But Sheffield might be naive enough that he legitimately might have thought he had a committable offer and Alexander was caught off-guard.

Or maybe everyone was acting in bad faith, and Sheffield knew the offer was slipping away and jumped, and Alexander said okay knowing he'd jettison him down the road. Truth is probably somewhere in between.

Wouldn't you want to explain to everyone why you're recruitment is open again days after you just announced your commitment? I thought he handled it extremely well. He easily could have gone on a tangent about how we handled the process.

IMO, bad look for the staff, good on the kid.

ND will survive without him. He would have been a nice addition, but our '19 class will be just fine.

TJ seems like a good kid, hope this works out for him.

Side note, I wonder if they want to use that slot for another CB, DE or RB instead of WR?

I am on the fence with TJ is a mature young man.....

Texting his original tweet that he is committed but still taking visits doesn't come across as extremely mature.
In fact it was rash...especially considering everyone seemed stunned that he even committed.

An offer today isn’t an offer tomorrow. I’m sure he had plenty of time where his offer was actionable and it clearly wasn’t by the time he decided to pull the trigger with a soft commit.

Per Bryan Driskell on Rivals it seems that the coaches were on vacation and Del was thrown for a loop when TJ committed.

I get Del was on vacation, as were other coaches, but you don’t accept a surprise commitment from a kid who has had very little communication with ND unless you are sure. Del screwed up. He should’ve said he would check with BK before we can accept your commitment.

There are 2 sides to every story, and then the truth.

It could very well be that Del was surprised (is this debatable?), didn't want to hurt the kid's feelings, spoke to the parents and the kid and said I need to talk to BK, I know we didn't see this coming, etc.

I don't feel like we know the story enough to say Del did/didn't do what he could with the situation, and it sucks coaches can't comment.

If someone called me on my vacation and asked me to make a snap decision, there's like a 75-25 chance you'll catch me when I'm not, uh... fully cognizant.

Are you suggesting that Mr. Wilhelm has to be drunk to be getting on with Mrs. Wilhelm?

Based on a quick Google Image search of the actual Mrs. Wilhelm...

I'll say yes.

This thread is awesome.

1 - The #200 OA recruit is elite.
2 - Del F'd up because we all KNOW the full details about the conversation.
3 - Kid commits and almost immediately tweets he is taking other visits but handled everything honorably.

September 1st can't get here fast enough.
