Can’t recall a better line / RB situation

Granted, everything is messed up this year, but I agree. ND is averaging 270 yds rushing per game so far. Think about that for a secsond. The realist in me is expecting Clemson to hold us to like 50yds rushing and force Book to throw a ton. Again, this year is just all over the place, but its always fun to watch your team be able to run at will.

Flashbacks to 2017 UGA. That OL was absolutely stacked, and Josh Adams was a good back. Yet, he was held to 53 yards on 19 carries.

Clemson has the personnel on their DL to give our ground game problems even without game planning for it. So when you factor in that their strategy will almost certainly be to force Book to beat them with his arm, ala 2018, it doesn't seem promising.

I wonder what we'll do? We could try to go full Wisconsin, play lots of 13 personnel, and shorten the game. We haven't shown the ability to do that in the past, even with great OLs, but I think it gives us a better chance of success than asking Book to play superman.

Time will tell, but the Adams / Nelson / McGlinchey will be tough to beat. I think the shitting of the bed versus Stanturd and Miami dampen the greatness of that combo.

I am not the biggest fan of playing the "he reminds me of" game, but since the question was asked....his vision and style reminds me of Terrell Davis. He isn't a fast as TD was, but Davis was an every down back, had great burst and vision and, in the zone blocking scheme, would plant and make that first guy miss.

If we are comparing to past ND players, he is a stronger version of Theo Riddick.

Should Kyren be on the Heisman watchlist?

I'm not 100% sure about this but for the sake of comparison:

Travis Etienne (4 games): 56 carries, 392 yards (7.0 YPC, 98 YPG), 4TD
Kyren Williams (3 games): 48 carries, 359 yards (7.5 YPC, 120YPG), 4TD

Real deal, complete back. The blocks he was picking up when Clemson was bringing pressure up the middle, left, and right...hell of a job. His running is one thing, but without his blocks Book gets sacked multiple times tonight. He deserved to share that game ball.

I want to add, that man laid down his BODY numerous times in the sake of being destroyed for a block.

Cheers to Kyren

I'm so glad the booth kept recognizing his blocking efforts. Dude is the real deal.

He was savin' sacks all damn day, but none bigger than this one:

Kyren's blocking was ELITE! I was so impressed with how consistently he picked up his man all over the line. He is a 1st rounder no doubt. I love this dude.

This is by far the best back we have had in a long time. And just proves that he needs to be on the field.

Kyren is an all around back. He does everything well. The NFL will come knocking after next year guaranteed. This coupled with JOK, Hamilton, Mayer getting the NFL nods early will bump Kelly's recruiting foothold.

This was the play of the game right here, and that block was everything. Amazing how elite he is at pass blocking, when he’s not even a huge back at 5’9 195lbs. That was Babylon Spector he picked up too, a 230lb line backer and Clemsons leading Tackler, as well as their team lead on TFL.

True all around back, just outplayed one of the best backs in recent college football memory.

To state the obvious:
Kyren is great because he trusts the Line and begins each run hard at the hole; then he is great-plus because he knows that if the D piles up in the general area of the hole, that just means that the Bigs have swept out something on the back side; and then he is great double-plus by being able to stick his foot in the ground and "right-angle-turn" to the swept area still going nearly top speed.

That Trust the Line and Know what it makes happen, plus supernatural direction change is ... well ... just Wow. We've had some great backs here, but Kyren's (so far) up there. He reminds me of that superman who played "halfback" behind Bettis at "fullback" whose name I always forget --- and who might have been Hall-of-Fame if he didn't get prematurely hurt (at Washington ? I think.)

Reggie Brooks--I can still vividly remember him passing out as he passed the goal line on the absolute craziest run I've ever seen. He was fantastic.

I haven’t enjoyed a Williams RB this much since Dexter Williams. Kyren may not have elite speed but he has elite vision.

Both Williams...es are fun to watch, but Kyren is a much more complete back next to Dexter. Dexter may have been more explosive...hard to say, but Kyren catches the ball very well and is lights out in pass protection. Dexter didn't get pass protection down till his last year, and then he struggled with it at the next level.
