If I was a Wisconsin fan, I would be extremely skeptical of all the articles Loy is putting out regarding Mertz.

However, I would be worried that Merz has not made any statements that would indicate that he's rock solid and is shutting down his recruitment. Obviously Mertz is continuing to talk to ND and he did visit pOSU.

Wish someone would put out a piece on how close (or not close) Mertz is with the Irish - Miege posse of Grunhard / Armstrong / Putz / Jackson. Mertz was at Miege through the 2016 season.

Some hand-wringing on the Wisconsin board about this tweet from Graham.

Doesn't mention playing school, just visited Ohio State. Close the thread.

When asked who he thinks will be next to commit on the podcast, Loy, god bless him, said Mertz.

If this all fizzles out, so help me I will never let the man live this down.

He should be visiting in June and there seems to be a lot of confidence around ND that Mertz is a very realistic option. So I don't think this is Loy pushing ND for clicks. Meaning, if we don't land Mertz, I don't think Loy should be blamed for making this something it's not. Mertz has now publicly said he's been communicating with ND a lot and has been for a long time.

Wait till the Wiscy board gets ahold of that gem. They have been beating on Loy for quite some time.

Their board has seemed to have gone from initial concern/freak out, to totally dismissing anything Loy reports as even going beyond homerism.

If Mertz flips, it will be an epic meltdown.

Communicating and next to pop are quite a bit different tho.

That he "should" be visiting in June is basically all based on Loy at this point. That he's communicating with ND is uninspiring.

*Publicly* there's not much to go on to think that Mertz is any different from any number of recruits who get ND offers, talk to staff, say nice things, and fade into the background. That he's an ND lean, that he will end up at ND, that he'll visit, that he'll commit, that he'll be the NEXT to the commit, is all 100% coming from Loy. Even if he is accurately repeating what the staff tells him, it's not his job to uncritically pass along everything they tell him.

If he's right he'll be right and he deserves our praise, but if he's wrong he'll deserve our scorn. I do think it's that simple.

Still wish one of the ND analysts would report on how close Mertz is (or isn't) to Armstrong, Grunhard, Putz & Jackson. If he's still tight from his Miege days, that's huge but he left because Putz was the 2x Gatorade POTY in KS as the QB at Miege so sometimes feelings get hurt and relationships strained when you have to transfer for PT.

I have to think the path to playing time at Wisco is much easier than ND. We will see what he decides

What? Every ND site has had articles about Mertz and that is for a reason. Also, Mertz has publicly talked about his relationship with our staff and how much communication they’ve had. So that is not like every recruit. considering not every recuit gets that much attention from the staff nor reciprocates it. And, Mertz has already visited Columbus and has stated “publicly” that he’s entertaining more visits. So this isn’t Loy making it up.

True but if he visits, things will change quickly. Either Mertz flips soon or he sticks with Sconny for good from there.

Why are we picking on Loy here? Sinclair answered this question before Loy and even he said that he wouldn't be surprised if Mertz was the next commit (he mentioned Osita first, but he listed Mertz second).

Loy used to make really homer statements in the past and sometimes he still does. But we need to give credit where credit is due. Loy has improved a lot and he rarely waivers on his CB predictions (see Nana)

The "Loy Sucks" fan crowd is so 2000-lame.

He's good. We all want to hear what he says, good or bad. And if you don't, you're just being a follower of some group think that died like 5 years ago.

He's been better about his ridiculous Crystal Ball and Commit Prediction stuff since the merger with Scout.

It's almost like he knows he needs to be more professional now or something.

I'm glad he learned how to pair down outlandish predictions, commentary and opinions.

Hang on a second, I thought it was confirmed the Lax is Loy. Is Loy actually koon??

I don't think he's changed at all since the merger. People are just starting to come around that he doesn't suck, and are using the "merger" as their transition away from the group think and into reality. But I'm not fooled by you late bloomers.

He's always explained his predictions when he makes them. 99% of the members here just don't have access, so they don't see it, and just run with the fan boy, group think "Loy is a loser and he doesn't predict well".

What I love about Loy, he goes with what he feels, and doesn't feel pressure to be conservative because of people that complain about his predictions. And this has given us the CB of the likes of Daelin Hayes, Shaun Crawford, and many others when he went on record months (even years) ahead of time to predict someone totally against their current commitment.

No, he's definitely different on social media since the merger. There's a lot less of the "get the scoop here, where we knew it a month ago!" every time something happens.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that he's changed from previous years where he would throw 8 CB predictions on different RB's all in the same class, as if ND was a favorite to land every one of them at some point.

He's much better about his predictions these days. Props to him for not being terrible anymore.

The dynamics of his employment forces him to be better.

Sampson is a pro's pro and Sinclair is a 2nd year ND recruiting nut who's passion for the Irish is going to make him work harder than anyone out there. Even though Loy worked for the company doing the take over, he was the one put into the fire by the acquisition as II brought 4 guys into the new format. To be honest, if I was 247, I'd ship him back home to LA to help Biggins with SoCal or just give him the FSU gig already but as an Irish fan, I appreciate 2 guys writing daily stories and being able to following Loy on Twitter.
