I’ve never had an injury or surgery like that, but I feel like I always hear that shoulder problems are holding back players from ever developing like they could have if they were healthy.

What’s the probable outcome from an injury like this? Does he always have a bad shoulder, or is this the kind of injury that he’ll easily get past with time?

Assuming the article isn't downplaying or unaware of the severity, no limitations long term.

It would be worse if it happened with surrounding tendon or muscle damage. I think Baratti pretty much shredded his shoulder.

I thought it was just cleaning some stuff up? I was not under the impression that this was a Nicky Barratti level shoulder problem

Oh, I don't know anything more than you do about the details of his injury. From just following football for so long, when I hear shoulder surgery, I end up thinking "Oh dang, he's going to be so behind in his development".

Dalen Hayes has been alright...

4 months. Will do some rehab, but probably won't be doing any actual heavy lifting until June. His may be a little quicker since it was just a small partial tear. I had a very large tear with surgery Nov 3 and I'm set to be back to full lifting again on March 3. (still going to start off very light) Upper body will probably be back to where it was pre surgery come fall camp. I feel like everyone has been getting this surgery lately. So dealing with mine and talking with others I've gained quite a bit of info on this specific injury/surgery.

I watched Baratti with a great deal of vicarious pain. Really sad and I thought that he showed signs of becoming a really good player in time.

I also watched this "shoulder" complexity really mess up Collingsworth just as he was getting Ball all figured out, and even turn Zbikowski into an ordinary safety for several months.

REALLY hoping that Kiser has a "little" problem with this damm thing, and also has Zibby-level willpower to get back to full aggression.

Didn't Mathias have some shoulder stuff that caused his tackling to go down some?

jack kiser had surgery on his should and will miss spring ball. looks like a he'll most likely redshirt for sure this year.

If this is just clean up stuff, wouldn't count him as a RS just yet. The article said he was one of 3 in line to compete for Rover (the other JOK and Simon). If that's accurate, and it's only minor, I'd say he's playing this year assuming he recovers on schedule. Add in what edge said about LBer measurements. The fact he was full go up to surgery tells me it's pretty minor. I think even with the surgery, he could be a ST's monster by mid season if not earlier. Just being on campus and with the team gives him a ton of advantage.

Clark Lea just spent 2 minutes raving about Jack Kiser, who’s missed all of spring ball after shoulder surgery. Says there’s no doubt the early enrollee can impact the defense at some point this fall.

That’s not how I took it and he never said “no doubt”. He said there’s no reason to think he can’t. Which is true about a majority of the scholarship players, right? He said they don’t want to close their eyes to the fact he might not be ready for UL but “could” be by week 3 or 4.

Kiser named scholar athlete of the year by Joe Tiller Football Foundation.
Accepted award at Purdue presented by Jeff Brohm
Had to be a little tough for Brohm
I heard he accepted wearing his "play like a champion" blazer from ND

I know Kiser accepted the Lilly scholarship, does anyone know if that opened up additional football scholarship? Haven't seen anything on this and wondering

As he is on the football team, no matter what scholarship type he is on, he would count towards the 85 man limit, to my knowledge.

Lilly covers Tuition only. If the rest is made up of any kind of aid from Notre Dame. He is a counter.

The only way he is not a counter is if he pays for Room and Board out of his own pocket or other outside scholarships that meet certain criteria.

I would be shocked if he isn't a counter.

Edit:

I'm not even sure if he ultimately accepted the Lilly Scholarship or not. I know he did receive a recognition for it, but he had until a certain date to either accept it or forfeit it. I never heard for sure what the decision was.

He did take the Lilly.
Saw him the other day
Noticeably bigger, I'd guess 225ish
Enrolling early and even with shoulder surgery has paid off for him

I read it as you do. The Lilly website notes it includes tuition and up to $900/yr for books and equipment. I see no mention of covering R&B. Any aid from the university makes him a counter.

the program offers four-year, full-tuition scholarships to Indiana students who intend to work toward a baccalaureate degree at any accredited public or private college or university in Indiana. The scholarship also provides $900 per year for required books and equipment.

Awesome to have a Lily scholar who is also a heck of an athlete. Rooting for Kiser to burst onto the scene.

No clue on when he can hit
