It's funny how different his film looks if you think of him as a DT instead of a pass rushing DE. Looks really athletic for the size.
Also, it seems like we run a lot of 3-4ish looks, with a big run-stopping DE. He could do that too.
From a depth standpoint, SDE is the position group that has depth concerns. Next year we have J. Hayes/Kareem/Ade O. In 2019, we'll only have Kareem/Ade O. Where as, WDE in 18' has Hayes/Okwara/Wardlow/Justin A. In 19' it would be the exact same. Now maybe Justin A eventually grows out of WDE, but it doesn't sound like that is the plan. IMO, I'd bet they at least try and get him on the Daelin Hayes plan, and lean him up.
So, I've always thought that from a "need" standpoint, SDE was a bigger priority. And like you mentioned, the staff does have the propensity to play "big ends", on early downs. This is partially why I likened him to Jay Hayes a couple days ago. Might not bring a significant pass rush presence, but I could see him being useful in the run game. If you put Eason with Joseph Anderson in back to back classes, it gives you some flexibility, and Eason becomes a solid #2.
Now ideally, you would have a SDE end that can do both, which I think Kareem is on his way to becoming, and Joseph Anderson will be as well. But that's just not in the cards this cycle and this is better than nothing.
