I generally agree with what you said, but didn't the Oregon Rep initiate it and tweet at Lenzy? Like, I'm not sure what you're supposed to do when a politician insults you on twitter..if anything Lenzy was pretty mature about it by saying whatever and then telling people to lay off the guy

I was following that live when it went down. The congressman is a piece of work. He was the first to tweet. Lenzy finally took the high road after a few immature responses.

Both looked bad. Twitter has that power. I follow 5500 people. I've never tweeted. That's the winning recipe.

With him Wilkins and bracy we should have a solid kick returner next year I'm guessing those 3 will try out for it

Has nothing to do with the returner. Devin Hester wouldn't solve the problem. It's the blocking or lack there of.

Oh for sure. He was NOT in the wrong on the Oregon rep thing. I just wish he would've talked about it because that was an incredibly unique thing to see go down. And frankly, at least to me, that'd be much more interesting to read about than random Twitter troll nobodies sending mean DMs no one saw. Defending himself against the antagonization from the Oregon rep would be something I'd want to read his perspective on and what it was like to experience/respond to that.

This is SOOO true and almost worthy of a thread on its own. I've often thought that we should try to block every punt...that would probably be more effective in stopping/slowing the release of the defenders than we do when we call a return. We don't seem to stop ANYBODY from coming down the field freely. Then you have Fink this year (CJ Last year) trying to make a return in traffic. Anybody else hold their breath when this goes down?

I digress...Lenzy will be awesome.

Just finished reading it and I'm going to "Last Jedi" this thing...

He says "there was some confusion" about running track... umm, that's it? So you're not even going to acknowledge that you literally called the coaches here liars and dishonorable? Really?

He complains about Twitter trolls for sympathy like everyone doesn't know that every single kid who has ever decommitted has gotten the same shit from idiot trolls because Twitter is THE WORST. Why are you not just reporting/blocking every egg that sends you something like that?

The headline is not "why would I go to a school that has nasty twitter trolls like every other school?" like he muses... it's "why would coaches that I attacked the character of want me on their team?" I was optimistic that I'd see growth and maturity in that piece... that he'd take accountability for his actions while also giving commentary on the external factors that contributed. There was an awful lot of talk about external factors, not one comment on the interview he gave or comments he made on social media.

There were two pretty unique parts of Lenzy's recruitment:

1. When tried a character assassinantion of ND's staff... it's extremely rare to see a prospect ever talk like he did about coaches anywhere.

2. When he got into a Twitter fight with an Oregon elected official.

In all that word count, neither is mentioned. Instead he just glosses over anything that doesn't paint him in a good light, and emphasizes being a victim.

I hope he kicks ass at ND. I really do. But personally, I was not impressed in the slightest by that piece he wrote.

I think you are expecting/asking for way to much from a 17 year old kid. That’s what all this recruits are...kids. I know some grown ass men who wouldn’t take accountability for a similar situation. Men who are directors and VP’s in the corporate world. Let alone a 17 year old kid in high school. That’s just my opinion.

Agreed. So often they act like they are defending a fake punt. They don't sell out for the block and they don't set up the return, they just stand up and let guys slide through after a half azzed attempt at a block.

Do one or the other. I'd prefer to send no one block 8 across at the line and put Claypool on their gunner and stop any thought that he's getting downfield unscathed.

I brought this up at a couple of ND Club game watches this season and nearly caused a riot. People are like... No wonder our punt returns suck.

I guess I look at it a little different. Why add fuel to the fire? In an age where these kids constantly feed into everything said on social media, Lenzy said enough is enough and let his actions speak louder than his words. He doesn't owe a public apology to our staff, he just owed an apology to them. He could have done what most others his age would have done and ran away by going to a completely different school. He chose to own up with the coaches privately and by his commitment let his actions speak this time. I have no idea what his character is like at this point but I do believe him coming back is a strong step in in viewing who he can be.

Or it's quite possible that the coaches told him there was no need to apologize publicly, that he'd done so privately and that was good enough for them. They may have even communicated this with the ND reporters as the topic isn't even mentioned. All parties are ready to move on so it seems.

This is where I'm at..... it's easier for the staff as a whole to move forward, and they're the first ones to realize that they're dealing with 17-18 yr old kids, and things will be said. I have no problem with what went down. Kids make mistakes, hell....just look at Kevin Stepherson as an example. Multiple mistakes will in all likelihood cost him his ND career.

Wait what Wilkins you talking about? Joe Wilkins? lol just when I think I've heard it all from you

Don't get on the dude when he's making sense. Wilkins had TD's on PR, KOR, Blk FG, Int, FR and was drug down on the one a couple of times on long returns. Certainly not crazy to think that he could be a KR at ND.

On Saturday he ran a 21.58 200 M and took first, in his second race of the season, at the Arcadia Invitational in California. Broke the school record.
