Unless there is an unreported Clemson offer looming, this seems like a lock for the good guys.

If anyone wanted to no how much ND bends their academic standards for athletes, Jamion's twitter bio says he has a 1040 SAT.

For reference, that puts Ja'Mion at the 42nd percentile nationally

The average ND student is a 1460 or the 97th percentile nationally

*And to be honest, he's probably one of the higher achieving D1 recruits

I wish the staff would've used his commitment to make a splash at The Opening. The Finals roster is loaded with leans that are ready to pop. No better PR stunt possible to show ND is back at full strength in the recruiting game. Missed opportunity.

* ...assuming he's committing to ND lol

I keep getting excited about this guy because everyone on here seems to want him so badly, then I look up his rankings and his offer list and don't understand the need.

DT, I get it - I'm for taking him, but I'm just not as excited as you guys I guess.

He impressed at his regional Opening enough to get an invite to the Opening Finals. ISD and II are high on him and he's supposedly the big DT target for the rest of the class. Between him, and if Booker decides to commit at II, DL recruiting is wrapped up.

Why didn't he get a boost in rankings yet? Maybe they've haven't updated since, which would make sense. But still, why are the other schools not taking notice of his opening if it was so great? Just skeptical is all - as it sounds like ND making a justification on missing out on Mustipher, who's got all of the offers and all of the stars.

They are still going after a WDE but I'm not sure the interior is even done yet.

We grabbed two interior DLs last class, and with Franklin, that'd make 2 for this class. I feel like at that point we shut it down to keep everyone happy, and recruit the hell out of our two committed DL.. If they show any sign of wavering, we outreach... But I feel like if we keep our two committed DL happy and focus on them, we get them.

He'll make 4 star on someone's list. The services will have one more post-spring evaluation period update. Rivals started their's yesterday for instance.

As far as to why VT and Wiscy were the only teams to offer late? Maybe the others knew the writing on the wall or they have their top of the board covered. You say he doesn't have a good offer sheet bu he has a lot of his regional guys minus Maryland who landed Austin Fontaine. It's possible he stayed under the radar so long that others just thought it was too late, like Claypool did on the west coast minus Wash and Ore?

As far as them going after him because of the Mustipher recruitment? I get the feeling Elko liked him enough to go after him in addition to Mustipher and they were from the beginning... willing to take Jay Ade, Jam and PJ. If PJ would have been an early commit, not sure Elko would have passed on Franklin.

Lastly, we have no idea what/if DT's are going to leave. You don't bring in new DC and OC and not have significant fallout. Scheme's change, preferences change, roster make up follows. We've seen a little so far, I'll bet there will be more. There's a logjam of DT's that are just not going to be contributors at ND. There's not enough room and the guys coming in are going to be Elko's guys. A thinning of the herd is best for the program.

Every year there is a guy that could commit at the perfect time to make a splash at a national event, and it never happens lol

Poor PR / marketing. Period.

It's almost as if the staff is late on picking up on certain nuances and trends in recruiting... no history of lateness in recruiting or anything, surely.

I'm perfectly fine with him committing before the Finals, if he is indeed going to be Irish. It gives us one more kid to go out and recruit in Oregon with the kids we already have representing the Irish.

Were you told this was the case?

Because I'd bet that Ja'Mion wanted to do something at his school. He's all about his hometown "the ridge". It is everywhere on his twitter and he's constantly repping it and talking about it. To assume the staff steered him away from doing a commitment at the Opening, is a little misguided, since we know this info.

But I'm sure Rivals/247, as well as ESPN, will be talking about which schools have the most commits attending throughout, so it may help to create a sense of momentum to say "ND is one of the 5 schools with 4 or more commits in attendance."

While past history surely isn't on their side. They are absolutely crushing other aspects, like graphics. Commits and recruits mentioning how its the best in the game.

Unless we've been told that this was the staffs preference, I'd assume the opposite. This was Ja'Mion's call and he wanted to do it in his hometown, at his school. Much more logical, IMO.

Actually winning games on the field will help PR/recruiting much more than some kid announcing his commitment at a meaningless Nike event.

Meaningless Nike event? Meaningless in terms of recruiting?

I'm confused as to why you have so many negative reps with this kind of hard hitting and quality knowledge.

I know events like these have an impact on a recruits rankings, but I don't care about that.

If ND wants to show recruits and people in general that they are back it won't be done by having a kid commit at The Opening. They need to win games.
