His film is good, not great. But he looks like he's 6' tall in that film. I don't like undersized interior DL where the OL can just lean on them and take them out. I'm not crazy about him as a prospect and will be OK if he doesn't come here. If he does, hopefully he proves me wrong.

I don't mind shorter interior DL if they are strong. All about leverage. They have the ability to get under taller OL and win the leverage battle.

He is a legit 6'3". I remember a lot of posters on ISD having the same concerns as you (and I agree, he looks short on film) and the staff at ISD assured everyone after seeing him in person that he is listed accurately.

There is also a picture of him and Lacey together (post 50 in this thread) and he is taller than Lacey. I don't think Franklin has any Opening measurements but Lacey does (6'2") and Franklin is taller.

MTA?

Yes x 1000, thank you for pointing that out. I corrected it above.

Also, the ability to shoot gaps, which I think Franklin looks really good at. As I've mentioned before, Elko is very active with his DT's. He'll slant, stunt, etc. with those guys quite frequently. So that's probably a trait he looks for while recruiting.

Also, when shooting gaps and stunting, its not always about making the play by the DT, but more about disrupting the flow of the offense. Making an RB cutback, creating a lane for a LB, etc. A good example of this was ND vs. Clemson in 2015. Clemson was pretty active with their DT's, and they weren't really making a lot of plays but their LB's and DE's did.

Looks like the staff at ISD may suck at evaluating height then.

I predict Kurt Hinish will be making a strong contribution by 18 as well. He seems to have been forgotten.

Koon I hate to disagree with you on film evaluation, because you are 1 of the top 5...heck top 3 film evaluators on this site.

But I think this kid has really good to great film. His highlight real is basically 7 minutes long and has him making a ton of plays. Compared to other hudl tapes where it's 4 minutes long and the kid makes a handful of plays.

I see a good sized DT who is extremely quick off the snap and is consistently in the backfield before the QB and RB knows what's hit them. He is very athletic for his size, reads the offensive plays well and just seems to be very smart. Come to think of it, his quickness off the ball reminds me of Sheldon Day. But Franklin has the size, unlike Day who was a bit of a tweener.

That is just my opinion of his tape. I am no expert by any means.

He does get left out of the conversation quite often. Whether or not he ever enters the conversation, I'm not going to comment on but I loved an interview he did post signing day. He basically said that he didn't care if he was 4th string or 1st string, he was going to to outwork everyone in the DL room, everyday, from day 1. Excited to see if he brings that blue collar type attitude

If the DL can survive this year I think help is on its way. In a couple of years we could be bragging about our DL. Maybe not like Clemson or Bama but more than good enough to win with.

I feel like I've been saying this for years...man I hope it works out this time.

Well, in all reality we've had a DL, that was good enough to win with, more than a few times during BK's tenure. 11', 12', 13', 15'; I would all put in that category. Only one of those was elite, but that's not what he said. All those teams had DL's that were good enough to win 9+ games with, provided they were surrounded by a complete team. 3 of those DL's were actually a part of 9 win teams. Which, I believe is what he's saying.

But in '14 we were seeing the growing pains on the field and were hoping that the experience would pay off in '15 with depth as well. I don't know if I'd say that the DL in '15 was "good enough". NG was a mess and the lack of recruiting at WDE led to a lack of capable players there too. The team desperately needed more pass rush, but none was available.

Hopefully with the new S&C and coaching, we'll see D Line improvement.

Between Sheldon and Romeo alone, they had 29 TFL's and 13 sacks. It's a complete exaggeration to call 13 TFL's and 9 sacks from Okwara, at WDE, as not having capable players. Dropping Romeo on half his (pass) snaps against Stanford is on BVG, not the DL talent. That's just one example of what was wrong with that team. I think most fans can understand that. Same goes for dropping Day as much as he did. Plus, that team won 10 games.

If we got 2015 production out of the DL, we win 8-10 games last year, with how close the margin of loss was. That's precisely what he's saying. Good enough to win. 2014 and 2016 are examples of. Of not being good enough to win.

Speaking of which, how innthe hell do you embed videos anymore? You used to use the embed code, then YouTube changed that but still have you the old embed code, which worked on IE. Now they don't give you that code.

hit share, then embed

Exactly, I have no idea. I even got a new Iphone 7 thinking that might help, and was just confused as ever, lol.

The new code should work. But maybe not from mobile. IDK.
