Put me on the elite LT prospect side as well. He lacks consistency in his footwork sometimes because he is so physically dominant but the footwork is there. It was on full display in Oregon and any other time he's faced his elite peers. I think that right now he is the best tackle in the class, although I think Trey Smith has the highest ceiling.

Hopefully all it would take to land Zamir White would be a quick search of ND OL recruits in the past two years

Notre Dame hasn't proven they can put running backs in the league. This is the biggest reason why Notre Dame isnt getting the elite running backs in the country.

Theo Riddick has done a nice job in the league, but he also doesn't play a typical running back role nor could the staff settle on a position for him in college.

It's going to take Tarean Folston, Josh Adams, Dexter Williams, Tony Jones Jr., or Deon McIntosh to run off big seasons and get to the league.

Also, the staff has to show the ability to get top backs on the field. There really wasn't a reason for Greg Bryant and Tarean Folston not to be the 1-2 punch their freshmen year. GAIII had his moments and Amir/Cam were so-so, but you just have to let players go make plays at some point and that's something Brian Kelly and his staff haven't been willing to do in most cases.

Huh? Greg Bryant had no business starting or being the 2nd back his freshman year. Our QBs would've gotten killed. This offense is all about timing and taking what the defense gives you. Bryant danced a little too much and was chided for his blocking. He was a physical specimen but nothing ever showed us he deserved to be the 1st or 2nd back in the game.

Kelly has shown the ability to generate good rushing numbers when he has a back that knows what he's supposed to do. Folston has been a success story until his injury. Adams was incredible last year, as was Prosise. Or does that not count because they weren't high 4 star/5 star RBs?

Cough cough. Cierre Wood. Kelly wasted him on the bench.

Really, Cierre was given a lot of opportunities to ball out. In fact, he pulled off the big run that blew open the Oklahoma game in 2012. I love Cierre, but he was also a problem. Example his NFL career.

FWIW, ND doesn't need elite RB's, we're doing fine without them, lol.

Josh Adams called me and told me, fuck that garbage. Haha

So I have to politely disagree. He mauls guys, great quality and I love it. But I don't see the feet and athleticism that makes him an "elite" LT. I see a big dude, that is really good at using his size to his advantage. He gets to guys first. Great quality, again, I just don't see the LT talk that others do. If there is footage that I'm missing, I'd be open to being wrong.

Emphasis on "some". All of those guys got moved from another position to guard.

Rosenthal, Wisne, and Ridder had more than 50 starts as OGs.

Most were the "big" guy on their HS team and played OT which is typical of many big guys in HS. Many guys get moved due to technique, strength, speed, the depth chart and injuries, and development or lack of development by themselves or others. Jeff Burris was a stud RB in HS, he got moved to Safety and ND and became and All-American while still being a stud RB. Andy Heck was a 3 year letterman at TE and a starter at TE when he got moved to LT as a Sr. and became an AA. Vontez Duff got moved from RB to CB and became an AA. None of those 3 was 6-7, the point being that many players change positions in college for the reasons stated above.

Wisne was a stud at both OT/DTL and also played TE in HS. Wisne played DL in camp as a freshman but was moved to the OL early in his Fr season but need time to develop D-1 technique.

Rosenthal started out as an OT and lettered (only one of these guys to letter as Fr.) as an OT as a freshman behind Clevenger. As a soph he moved to OG and started there for 2 years before going back to OT as a senior. "Needs of the team" and "getting the best 11 on the field".

Ridder started out as a OT behind Doughty as a Fr and behind Clevenger as a So.when Rosenthal was moved to Starting OG. He became the "6th man" coming off the bench like John Havlicek and to play everything but center. As a Jr Tim also played TE. He became a full time starter at OG as a Sr.

There was another long, tall guy in that same class, Petitgout. Luke was a HS TE but he was recruited to play OL at ND. According to Petitgout, he was 260 when his ND career began and he knew he needed time in the weight room to build up and time to learn the position. As a Fr. he backed up RG, Leahy. When Rosenthal was moved to OG as a So. Petitgout was moved to Rosenthal's former slot behind LT, Clevenger. Luke became a Starting LT when Clevenger was lost for the season(and career) early in Luke's Jr. year. As a Sr. he became a First Round Draft choice at LT.

I want Foster to start at RT and stay at RT. Let the ballerinas kick out on the other side, just focus on mauling dudes and get the odd bit of help from a back or TE from time-to-time...

Translation: He would want Sarell to stay on the right side and be a physical force, using a TE to help if necessary. The "ballerinas" are the more "athletic" tackles that may not be able to be as physical at the point of attack, but can use their athleticism to take care of business.

I love how there are people who think Sarell's gonna have a problem playing LT in college. I'm not saying he's gonna be the #1 LT in '19 or '20 but he's gonna play LT just about anywhere in the country by year 3, ND included.

I think Mike McGlinchey would have a serious problem with this statement. In case you haven't noticed our "maulers" are on the left side. They don't play any nastier than McGlinchey and Nelson.

So CP hyperbolized in stereo by drawing the wrong metaphor. He was saying he didn't think that Foster had the fine motor skills required to master the left tackle position.

Fine?

I don't agree with that. In fact most kids that end up at left tackle don't exhibit that motor skill in high school. Had Stanley been on parallel with the level he ended at, he would have been a top 10 high school recruit, same for McGlinchey.

I remember stories about McGlinchey getting owned at at least one All-Star camps because he was so tall and skinny just didn't know how to play with leverage yet. It made a lot of people nervous about his upside.

But now that he's 320, the athleticism is showing through.

He's up in that range I thought. I think he was 310 at the end of last year. Maybe he'll stay there?

The point remains!

McGlinchey is going to play around 325, and Nelson around 339 this season. My wild assed guess. But I bet I am really close!

mom wants to visit for gameday ND vs Stanford unless the coaches want him to visit on another day...distance is no longer a factor 247

wiltfong stated he thinks ND is the reason he hasn't committed to stanford as we are a REAL player here

Distance isn't a factor for Foster himself, but his mom said in that article that the distance would be tough for the family.

All Stanford IMO.

Personally, I don't like this visit. I would rather he come for MSU or Miami or any other game where he can focus 100% of his attention on Notre Dame. I know it could be great to have us actually blowout Stanford, which I don't believe we will do, while he is here. But I would still prefer he visits for a game where our opponent is not the favorite for his commitment.

Him visiting for Stanford could be good or bad. His mom said that they didn't think he was going to choose ND pre-II but Foster got a long and gets along really well with HH and he really liked the current OL and they loved ND all around. Because of all of this the decision has now become more difficult and they now want to take in game day experience. I haven't been myself but game day experience at ND is very special. Let's hope him and his family think so too. Let's hope we BEAT STANFORD!

I assume he'll take in a Stanford home game, too, which will give him something to compare from a game day perspective.

this. gives the parents and Foster a good apples to apples comparison of gameday atmosphere.

I took her comments to read the son has came to terms with being away from home, and is willing to live with his decision.

If stanford was the clear favorite why would they even be discussing him being a great distance away?

I think ND is going to get a real good shot at convincing family the best place for their son is SB, IN.

I also could have drank the koolaid on this one.

It could give him the perfect gut feeling though. It happened to Elmer when he visited Michigan during the Michigan/ND night game. Michigan won and Elmer just didn't seem happy that ND lost.

Could be the same feeling scenario for Sarell. ND wins and it just feels so good to Sarell.
