Curious as to why you would go with Sears? Guy was beat out at 2 different schools, one (maybe both?) being by true Frosh. One was a Group of 5 school.

Being honest, I know literally nothing of Sears other then what I posted here, so it is a legit question for you Lucky.

That being said, I am totally on board with Coan if we could/can land him.

I think the biggest plus is that he only has 1 year of eligibility left. You just know if Pyne or Clark see the field we're going to be stuck with them for multiple seasons.

Well one of the guys who beat him out is JT Daniels so wouldn’t fret about that at all. But did he also fall behind Matt Fink at S.C.? I know Fink played some while Sears was there but am not sure of the details.

Really hope this happens. He looks like an above-average passer.

Has any one heard if there has been contact?

If we offer I think he's ours in a heartbeat. Did a quick twitter search and although he isn't active, Mike Coan (father?) is and he has plenty of NDFB in his recent likes. Also worth noting that Wisconsin fans are devastated to see him go...good sign.

What about Dylan McCaffery

Gotta think Lance Taylor could help seal this deal if the Irish were interested.

Rumour was that Dylan was going to Northern Colorado to join with his dad and brother. ND would be a big step up if the Irish were interested.

In a perfect world we could have waited to see what happens with Sears, but if Coan is trying to make a decision soon I get it.

I'll be honest, I really really like this. Don't get the negativity.

With all the recent announcements on players leaving, next year is shaping up to be a year to build on. I would rather have some growing pains (including an extra loss or two) with a TB as QB than bringing in a rental just to have the uncertainty of a first time QB when the rest of the roster matures again.

Coan > Sears, IMO. But I'm not sure he's who you need to take a "step forward" from Book and the politics get really weird if he beats out Buchner on experience not talent.

With that being said, I welcome him back to the lacrosse team with open arms.

Coan can push the ball down field with the right weapons and usage better than Book, this is a solid signing if happens. Those two kickers are the real questions

well, there we go. Can't hurt to have the experience on the roster. As long as the best player plays

I love that they are taking a transfer QB though I'm not sure Coan is the guy that I would've went after. I think it's too conservative of a move. I see it as putting a solid floor in the program but limiting the ceiling, both in next year but the following year as it means Buch won't be getting those snaps.

Loy made it seem like its a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush sort of deal. There might eventually be better options available in the portal but ND may just lock this one up early so they don't miss out.

Are we sure about that? His 2019 season yielded 8.0 yards/attempt and 11.5 yards per completion. Those numbers are worse than Book’s 2020.

I don't think keys or lenzy are good at football and so we're likely going to be running out a WR core with very little experience. Coan looks like a guy who will spread the ball around which is a great way to build their confidence and keep them engaged.

I think the possibly of the passing attack being a shitshow under Coan is close to zero while it's certainly possible with the three we have currently. If it's a shitshow then you get to the point where receivers arent developing or worse - leaving the program.

I get the politics argument but they'll both be here in the spring so it's not like benching an incumbent or existing leader. If Buchner is really clearly better then I think he'll start, even if it's not week one. But the jump from poor competition Jr year to no competition sr year to starting qb of notre dame is really stark.

Buchner > Coan > any other option

I'm cool with this because "any other option" is truly nightmarish.

I'm not crazy abour Coan but I am happy to have a QB come in before spring rather than after. I'd rather have Michigan's Mcaffrey and probably 10 other QBs I'm not aware of, but whatever, welcome.
