I'm half way through today's ISD Recruiting Podcast and Mike Frank said a couple times "we know for a fact they didn't evaluate [Plan B guys]". His typical podcast rant was about ND never having a Plan B.

Only sharing his opinion I have no idea if that's accurate.

That is disgusting.

How fast can Kelly be run out of town?

Elston has Indiana so he would be responsible for MC Hammer and Yeast.

If true, I think the assistants probably have some responsibility here too.

I just remembered - and it's important - that Mike Frank then stated he feels the biggest issue is not enough support personnel to actually review tape, review recruits performances, help maintain contact with them, etc...

I guess ND just doesn't have the funds...

Is there a scenario where he could have identified them, developed a relationship passed the film of to their residue position coaches and they determined a) no thanks b) we like other guys better.

Seems weird to put a wr recruit loss on the lb coach

I'm okay with an off field role, ND.

Some ISD staffers have strong connections to some people who worked in the recruiting office. If they're saying they "know for a fact" something about film evaluation and targeting Plan B guys I take that as Gospel because it came from a primary source that works on recruiting every single day.

There are a lot of excuses to be made for why more focus wasn't put on guys mid-year but it goes without saying that it's been a top down problem during Kelly's entire tenure and he's never really recruited at a Weisian level which is pretty inexcusable.

By the time everyone is done closing, we'll be in the 15-20 range on 247 composite with zero top 50 players. It'll be four years in a row recruiting outside the top 10... which is not what you want to do if you want to be a top 10 team.

I hear you Lax but it's rankings based on opinion of high school players he "project" to be good football players in college. Lots do, some don't. Some work out in their programs, some don't. Some get injured. Some flunk out. Some 5 stars never start. Some 3 stars turn into Tyler Eifert. I'm not saying it doesn't matter, I'm just saying the rankings and projections are taken to seriously, in my opinion and I understand it's just that. My opinion.
For me, it's about finding guys who will come here, train hard, play hard, have the pedigree to grow to what they need to grow to and fill needs that need to be filled.
We haven't filled needs at Defensive end which really frustrates me. We loaded up on db's last year but it was important to keep stocking the shelves and we haven't so far. We do have a good chance at Owusu and JGH though and although they aren't 5 star, top 50-100 or even 150, they're great character kids who you know will do the school work and train and they're damned good football players. I rank those kinda guys a lot higher in my mind.
I hope this makes sense.

ND needs to find someone that has high level knowledge of successful programs and pay them to do an evaluation of the program and make recommendations.

It seriously feels like they don't know what they are doing. Recruiting is the single most important part of building a program and they are understaffed? What is going on?

MF said before the gug is too small to house any more analysts. Need to improve the facilities first to make room for any potential staff additions

Yup.

I think its time to put the whole "Mike Elston is a great recruiting co-ordinator bit to rest".
He clearly mishandled kids like Yeast and Hippenhammer. Then kids like JGH, Owusu, Armstong and Jalen Harris were seemingly nowhere to be found on ND's radar but all seem like real players who are RKG types.

I thought it was posted in Yeasts thread that Elston were on them when they moved to Indy, but the old regime said no........

Literally. I think USC converted every 3rd down that day.

It was karmic justice for the terrible management of the new "sound system" initiative.

Easily the worst experience I've had in ND stadium. Every single 3rd down. I'll also never forgive Calabrese for that stupid cheap shot he took. We had scored on offense and our defense finally got a stop on 3rd down, it looked like momentum finally swung our way. Oops Calabrese hits the runner well out of bounds.

Since BK arrived, I don't think we've had a recruiting season where everything went smoothly and we landed pretty much all of the targets. There always seems to be missed recruits, no backup plan, last minute scrambling, etc.

We'll never land 100% of the targets, but it should never caused large wake that creates a ripple effect.

You can hire independent contractors to break down film, cut tape appropriately, and send to the final decision makers. This can be done from the home too and not at a bldg

Blaming it on the Gug size sounds like an elementary cop out

Been to a white out. I thought their atmosphere was corny with the Nittany Lion roar sound clip going off every 20 seconds.

Agreed. I was at the 2007 ND-Penn State game in State College, and I thought it was lame, too.

Every damn time the Trojans run a play it seems like...

They thrown an interception, and their band plays that awful song. Their QB gets sacked and they play that awful song. I honestly don't think the band even follows the game. Whenever I watch a southern cal game, I have to turn the volume off so I don't have to subject myself to that cacophony.

100%. There's nothing a person in that position can't do with a phone, a laptop and the internet in 2017. I know the director of college scouting for the N.Y. Jets, and he works out of his home office *in Tennessee* with a laptop, an iPad and a cellphone.

That they're using that as an excuse is the definition of amateur hour and makes me wonder what else is completely backwards under Kelly.

So what's the consensus on Mac?

I'm thinking that if he has always wanted to go to Notre Dame and in his heart wants to be at Notre Dame that will eventually win out over all the love he has gotten from PSU.

Hard to be optimistic about any recruits lately. We only have negative momentum

Yeah, I thought I read Franklin will be doing an in-home with him tonight. I would expect him to shut things down after that visit, and stick with them.

What does this even mean? Who is Hayes Fawcett? Hipp doesn't seem like the type to go back on his word.
