Perhaps you're thinking of Robert Neal? I couldn't find anything in the first couple pages.

And perhaps you were thinking of Robert Buh-buh-beal?

(Yes I know where the B & N chiclets are, you are forgiven)

Would we expect him to start next year? Or just provide valuable depth?

After thinking about this more, if ND lands Pryor does Griffith potentially transfer? I hope not but it is a reasonable question if you assume hamilton is also a fat starter

I think you worry about it then. No need to speculate on transfers at this time.

Houston could play nickel.
Or more likely, move to full time corner for needed depth.

Houston has many ways to see a ton of snaps next year, regardless of transfers coming in.

I think that's a distinct possibility but from Griffith's perspective he has the entire rest of the year to establish himself at what many call his most natural position now that he is at safety full time. He has to show it to the staff that the other safety spot opposite Hamilton is his come 2020. Who knows what Pryor is looking for but his depth would great to have the next 2 years but I highly doubt that's what he wants to transfer into, a depth player role.

No, he's going to graduate this year and be ready for Fall camp next season. He'll then have 2 years of eligibility left.

That does not correspond with Griffith's timeline, IMO.

After watching Pryor's high school film, he is such a versatile athlete that he almost looks like he could play rover too. At the very least maybe it adds depth to an even more crowded LB room. It would be nice to have depth at the safety position however. I also watched some of Griffith's HS film at corner and he can cover very well. I think at the very least he is a field corner. Does anyone know what was wrong with his play at corner during the spring?

Graduate in Dec or May?

Pryor should graduate in December from all of the articles I've read. If all goes to plan, he'll be on campus for spring ball with two seasons of eligibility left!

December 15, 2019 - Fall Commencement Ohio State
January 12, 2020 - Move-in Day for Spring 2020 Semester @ Notre Dame

Correct, my apologies. I spaced his EE status and Dec. graduation. But, he still won't be coming until after the season per the question above.

Having Pryor and, likely, Donte Vaughn, in the fold for spring ball would make one feel a lot better about the defensive backfield next season. Same with Daelin Hayes coming back up front.

Got a take from Driskell now at SI. He basically said that he think Griffith is better than Pryor. He actually thinks Pryor would be a bad fit at Safety for ND because he isn't great in coverage. LB may be a better fit but it doesn't seem ND needs LBs.

Elevenwarriors commenters had several recurring types of posts

Pryor took bad angles
Pryor didn't play fast
Defensive Coaching sucked last year, so nobody played up to their abilities.
Single Deep safety means limited amount of playing time available.
Some thought he should bulk up a little and play OLB

If he can bulk up and challenge for strong safety minutes then I'm all for it. We always want more competition in the room. If Griffith comes out as the best option, or DJ Brown or Pryor, I'll be happy.

We already expect a certain someone to be our starting FS. It'd be great if KJ Wallace could continue getting minutes because he'll be needed next year for sure.

I worry about depth. Say ND takes Pryor and ND does not take Malcolm Greene because Pryor took his spot. Pryor then does not get PT and transfers again. Now we are down a safety. Say Pryor wins the job and Griffith transfers. Also down a safety.

Again, why not just worry about that when it comes. The idea that we need to stress about transfers before the kid is even on campus is crazy. Feels very unnecessary.

He may feel he can win a starting role and won't be a role player.

The nice thing is this isn't like a freshmen where you have to balance the academics and acclimating to big boy football.

I feel like ND is starting to develop a reputation for players waiting to junior year for their turn but still making it to the NFL.
I think Gilman will come back next year as well.

This. Get the guys on campus and figure out who the best players are. Competition makes everyone better. Plus there are always surprise departures/injuries/whatever.

I really hope Gilman returns. One of my favorite players and by my limited observation, a fine young man.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

I doubt it. He transferred here because he wants to play in the NFL and this is already his fifth year after HS so really he is the same age as a RS Senior. No need to lose another prime year when he has already established himself.

From what I could gather in the twitter comments, obviously no clue whats accurate or not, many said he was a great athlete that just didn't fit the S/LB hybrid scheme. Not sure what the run or how they run things at pOSU but where does that put him with us? Is rover more box than zone? Is Pryor better at CB than Safety? This coaching staff knows where people fit better than ever so I have to imagine they know exactly where his style through 20+ games with pOSU fits.

Anyone have actual insight on his play versus hearsay?
