A 3 star WR? I think we'll be fine.

It's funny until u realize he was our best wr commit and we only have one other and he's a 3* too.
Add in Stephenson has off field issues, McKinley is recovering from a broken leg. It ain't the prettiest picture.

The only thing I find funny is the typical "3*? No biggie, we deep" response from some posters. Eventually people need to realize that we can only miss so many times before we ain't that deep anymore. HINT: it already happened.

What the hell is wrong with this staff that they under recruit certain positions like WR, DE and S? Do they not realize the depth issues they create themselves?

They didn't under recruit WR, they had 32 offers out, that's a lot. Ohio St and USC had just 15 each. Michigan had 39, Nebraska had 33. They offered enough, they just weren't effective. Got caught up at the top of the board and struck out on DPJ, OSB, T Black, Holloman, H Jones, Blount and the like. Switched to guys I liked early, like Martin & Calvin too late possibly. We'll find out.
There are plenty of guys to get on right now. Guys who are way undervalued who would look at an ND offer as a huge upgrade over their current options.
I'll post a list over in the 2017 Master List thread later after I score a pizza.
While I do agree this looks like S recruiting from years past. I'm not sure it will have the same impact. Because from a numbers perspective, you have to factor Alize Jones into the mix. As well as bringing in 2 TE's for this class. If Alize can play, he'll be on the field in some capacity and I really think Kmet and Wright are going to be really good players. So not ideal, but add Michael Smith (for example) and I'm not sure the result will be as bad. Run some 2 TE sets, use an Hback, use 2 RB's, etc. those are all things we've done in the past, that could make up for lack of playmakers at WR. And we have some real talent at those other spots
My thoughts are that although it isn't the end of the world, losing Pouncey sucks. I didn't think we'd get Calvin and now without Denbrock I doubt we get Martin either. I think our only hope of closing with a decent WR or two is if we fairly quickly hire a solid WR coach and/or OC. If Stepherson gets in $hit or injured and McKinley doesn't pan out, we could be in trouble at X and not be able to effectively run certain formations. I'm sure staff (what's left if it) is all over it plus as I mentioned before, maybe a solid WR sees the playing time opportunity and jumps on it.
Keep in mind Adebo and Robertson play WR in high school. Robertson needs to play safety, but as mentioned above CB is deep and Adebo could be a star at WR.
Also, who is say you can't have a bigger WR at X? Alize or Claypool.
What the best year ND has had under Kelly? 2012, with a young and thin WR group. TJ Jones was the best WR, with a sophomore Davaris Daniels. The offense was all about Eifert and the running game with Riddick and Wood.
Could be a similar situation this year. But with ESB and Stepherson the WR group is more talented than 2012.

I don't see a the 2012 defense and a All Pro NFL TE walking through the door next year. That offense was also ranked 74th in points per game.
Yes, we are actually painfully thin and without much talent at WR. We have two legit guys in ESB and Stepherson... and effectively nothing behind them. If you lose either of them, we are screwed AND this year's recruiting is atrocious at the position and I've been ticked about it for months (basically, since we weren't all in on Oliver Martin from the very beginning because he's a player).
Behind ESB and Stepherson you have:
Sanders
Finke
Claypool
McKinley
Boykin
McIntosh
Not a single one of those guys has shown anything to make you think "hey, they can be a go to every down WR." McKinley is hurt, Sanders is an inconsistent slot, Finke is a small walk on with athletic limitations, Boykin isn't explosive and has poor hands, and McIntosh is another converted slot player who can't ostensibly play outside.
So the only guy on the entire roster who seems to have the upside and skill set to fill in as a wide receiver is Claypool and he obviously needs development and may be better suited for a hybrid TE role.
Sooooo.... yeah... we needed at least 3 WRs in this class and we have one. And he's not a world beater prospect per the industry. Unless we close with Calvin and Martin or some miracle pull at this point we are in a very bad spot. Reminds me a lot of the safety recruiting that led to huge issues.
I agree about the defense. But we do have Wright and Kmet walking through the door and Alize Jones back.

In other news...
ND moved up to #7 on the Avg Player Rating score with a 90.73, now just .14 behind Michigan for sixth.

Still not sure why everyone is ignoring the chance the Adebo plays WR

Suck that we lost Pooncey.
I do agree the team is thin at WR. But I also agree I don't think it will have the same impact as safety.
Let's remember the team is pretty deep at CB, currently we have a commit at CB who many believe could be better WR than corner. Mr Adebo.
Also, if Briles becomes the OC do we get back involved with my favorite WR Mr. Jones?

Bye.
Don't want to be apart of making ND great again...
...well then, bye.
We need players on defense, at every level...trenches, LB and the D backfield...need them all. Not another 3* WR.
The sad fact is, we do need another 3-star WR. But I know what you mean.
