HAUSMANN SEES NOTRE DAME

Ohio State's primary tight end target for 2016, Cincinnati Moeller's Jake Hausmann, visited Notre Dame last weekend. The Irish hosted rival Michigan, as you know, and, as you know, destroyed the Wolverines in front of Hausmann and dozens of other big-time recruits. Ohio State offered Hausmann in April and immediately vaulted themselves into the role of "favorite" for his commitment.

Over the months, Hausmann has insisted that despite a familiar affinity for the Buckeyes, he was not a "lock" for Ohio State. The second-ranked tight end in the country for 2016, Hausmann insisted he'd make visits to ensure he was making the best college choice for him. To many, that appeared to be lip-service, but after a visit to Notre Dame last week, it appears to be much more than that. One of the recruiting industry's best, 247Sports.com's Steve Wiltfong, predicted officially that the Irish would land Hausmann, stealing him from the Buckeyes. That prediction, based on the impression made by Notre Dame last weekend, and the knowledge that he'll be back at Notre Dame when they host Stanford, has many people worried. Are the Buckeyes losing their grip on Hausmann?

"I think it's just because the visit went well," Hausmann said. "People are going to say what they want. (The visit) was pretty awesome, though. They really rolled out the red carpet. It was a lot about family, and how important it is to be a part of one team, that kind of thing."

Hausmann is scheduled to be at Ohio State on September 27th when the Buckeyes host Cincinnati, and suddenly that "easy win" for one of the nation's top players has become a challenge.

Last weekend set up perfectly for TEs. Steal UCLA's commit and Jake becomes less of a need (still go for him obviously). Miss out on the UCLA TE and skip the 2015 TE class all together, and Jake playing for the Irish becomes even more intriguing to him because of the big 0 at the TE spot for 2015.

I was going to go..............but that is the same night that ND plays FSU haha. So if you are into recruiting more than the games, good chance to check them out!

When Urban first got hired he gave tremendous lip service to all of the high school coaches in Ohio that they were going to build a wall around Ohio etc etc. Are the high school coaches in Ohio becoming discouraged that Urban seems to be more focused on getting higher rated kids from outside the state that it is now hurting Ohio recruiting? Am I just imagining this?

2012 - he signed 5 of the top 10 in-state players
2013 - he signed 4 of the top 10 in state players (he did sign the top three, though)
2014 - he has three verbals in the top 10

There is a severe lack of development going on in Columbus. Whether its coaching or just getting bad luck with talent, Urban is losing there while Notre Dame has won there.

Kids like Onwualu have panned out for ND. While kids like like Ezekial Elliott have left much to be desired at this point. Now its early in both stages of their careers, but there is a difference

OSU mostly whiffed on O-line in 2013 with only one pickup that year. They did great in 2012 and solid in 2014. 2011 was a very pedestrian O-line class.

Poor O-line play seems to be OSU's issue more than anything. If you watched the VT game, Barrett played well. His O-line was porous, and the WRs dropped a lot of balls. Sure, Barrett threw 3 INTs, but he was getting pressured all night long. INTs happen when you pressure a QB, especially an inexperienced QB.

Another big thing missing is leadership. Who's the leader on OSU's offense? It was Miller, but he's gone leaving a big void. On defense, it's one of their DL when you want an experienced S or LB to be a key leader. OSU simply doesn't have that luxury.

Talent takes you only so far; it's team cohesiveness that propels you to the top. Cohesiveness comes far more easily when you have great leadership, which usually comes from experience. That's what lacking here. Team USA from 2008 can tell you that. There's no other reason a Carmelo, James, CP3, Dwade, Bosh, and Howard team loses to Greece.

This is kind of interesting. I always liked those two varmints before they skedaddled to the Buckeye staff, but of course both were obviously immediately eclipsed by their successors at ND.

But I am wondering if one of the areas that they come up shortest is player development, or if that is due to the head coach, and his way of doing business. Or maybe a combination of both. I just don't think the Buckeye players get the love that the Irish do. Maybe that is why Ohio State has put on the full press with the parent-cheerleaders!

All evidence points to Warriner not being that good of a recruiter. I don't think it's a coincidence that we had middling recruiting at OL under Warriner, to arguably the best in the country under Heistand. Granted Heistand is a best, but at the beginning he had to play catch up to our dwindling OL depth.

There is a reason that Warnnier why Kelly let him go and why ohio st is struggling with the oline. Not a coincidence in my opinion.

Warinner can coach the OL decently. He cannot recruit the OL.

I agree that Meyer will most likely be fine. And OSU's struggling is like 9-3/8-4, considering their worthless schedule.

I think the criticisms stem from the fact that Ohio State has basically been a paper tiger under Meyer. They have yet to beat a team that finished in the top 20, no? He's 0-2 in those match ups. Plus the defense has not been good, at all. I'd be frustrated too. He's 25-3 in a little more than two pathetic schedules.

My favorite Buckeye fun fact: for one reason or another, Ohio State hasn't won a Big Ten Championship since 2009.

I'd point out that while their record is pretty darn good.....it's been against less than stellar competition. MSU handed them their asses last year in the B1G championship game, and from what I watched Saturday night, Va Tech didn't mind walking into their house after kicking in the front door.

Meyer has had damn good recruiting classes, but it has yet to materialize on the field. Things may have been different with Miller playing Saturday night, but then again, they may not have.

I agree with a previous poster. OSU is fine at the moment. Lets actually wait and see if we get half the guys we "lead" for right now. Long way to go and Urban is a masterful recruiter. Not to mention the BIG10/12 whatever is horrid.
