Yeah, he's already considered a leader by his actions. It could very well be his last year even though he'll still have a year of eligibility. But if he continues to grow like he did 1st season -> 2nd season, look out.

I'd bet on him being a captain and one of the DEs being a captain: Hayes, Okwara or Kareem. Finke and Book the others? Maybe Claypool?

I'm not saying there's no one else worthy.

They like to make at least one of the O-line captain as well. So E'berg, Kraemer or Hainsey most likely.

You need to be in practice and the locker room to know who is captain material but Elliott definitely has the resume. Love obviously if he's back. Boykin too.

A couple of guys who could be if they are leaders off the field (???) are Bilal and Ruhland. Both could be the leaders of their position groups which traditionally produce captains.

A lot of guys are in position and we are talking about a program that has a punter as a captain so who knows?

My guess on the 2019 captains:
Ian Book
Chris Finke
Alohi Gilman
Julian Love (if he returns)

What about Jay Bramblett to keep the punter/captain tradition alive?

Dammit, you beat me to it.

This guy has me fired up right now, lol.

I'm gonna go run 10 miles and write the next great American novel now... in under an hour.

Peace, y'all.

Well, it wouldn't be until next year. Not sure what the process and criteria are, but could being a transfer hinder this?

It shouldn’t. It’s not like we recruited him and he rejected us for Navy. I’d put money on him being a captain next year if he returns.

What a huge difference he has made on this team. His on-field attitude is something that the back end of the Irish defense needed and obviously he is quite the leader as well. I hope he does wear the C next season.

What do you guys think last year would have looked like if Alohi was allowed to play?

I think the only game we still lose (on paper) was the Miami game. However, I think his "hunger"/focus could have radically improved the team chemistry...

Maybe undefeated?? Back to back??
The world will never know - thanks NCAA!

Over at ISD the staff posed the question:

Alohi's the best safety since...?

Thoughts?

I think he is the best safety since Harrison Smith, has the potential to be just as good if not better. They are pretty similar in a lot of ways.

I would think he'll be a captain if he returns, but I think there may be a specific set of rules or guidelines that need to be followed or is it strictly at the discretion of the HC? An unpaid parking ticket wouldn't have prevented me from selecting Stanley, but given that situation, it makes me think there may be some rules/guidelines.

Zibby with Harrison a close second. If the staff wouldn't have screwed around moving Harrison back and forth he would probably have my vote.

I agree. gilman is a huge part of NDs 12-0 season, ripping the ball out of the vandy wrs when he was on NDs two yardline was big. without that play ND looses to vandy, maybe the play of the year.

Something tells me he's gonna be a runner up this year. The Tua hype train is too big.
