Did you watch the NW game? He got hurt on a third down play and IIRC correctly BK was going for it on fourth down and called a TO so Book could have a couple of minutes to recover.

He got hurt in the first half and played lights out in the second

That wasn't an injury to his mid section though. He came up limping. This could've happened at any point during the game and he might not have noticed it until the adrenaline wore off.

Broken ribs? Doubt it, he would've felt that right away after trying to take a breath. That doesn't rule out bruised ribs though.

We are boned if he can't play against Syracuse. We won't be able to put up enough points.

It would be the most Notre Dame thing to happen. Ian Book missing a game due to injury as the team is 9-0 is also the most Notre Dame thing to happen though. I hope Brandon plays lights out and his career ends on a high note.

And your point? I've seen plenty of players get hurt and finish games and then feel the effects of the injury more the day after. Wooden played the second half of the FSU game in '93 with torn ligaments in his leg and made the game saving play. He was out the rest of the season. Sometimes the excitement and adrenaline carry you until the excitement is over.

People forget Brandon was very good at beginning of last year. Hopefully he took the time off to really focus on his flaws and get back to his play from USC last year

BK has said before, he's been impressed with BW's dedication and continues to practice as if he's the starter. It's not like he's never taken a snap. He should be ready and remember, he was driving the bus that ran over scUM.

Here's the play. Takes a knee to the ribs

That doesn't really look like a limp to me. Definitely looks like he was favoring his side though.

There could be a couple reasons why this wasn't mentioned on Tuesday

-No one asked, so why mention it.
-On Tuesday, maybe they weren't 100% certain he'd be out for the game
-And the most important one, why the hell would they want to give FSU extra time to prepare for a QB that is a total 180 from what Book is. FSU's entire defensive game plan just got trashed with 48 hours until kickoff.

Its unfortunate, as now I think this game might be more of a dog fight. On the bright side, the weather might be such a big factor that none of this will matter.

Or simplifies it...put 8 or 9 in the box and force Wimbush to beat you with his arm.

Just run the damn ball and everything will be fine. It will also help if there is no special teams idiocy like normal.

Teams did that with Book too. I'm not saying this is the situation prefer, but it is the hand we were dealt.

We'll see if we are a playoff team. If Clemson can beat Syracuse with their #3 QB, we sure as hell be able to beat a very down FSU team that has nothing to play for with a QB that has a lot of experience.

I’m not saying the sky is falling, just making a counter point to your statement. I pray Wimbush gets out of his head and plays to his potential, lighting up FSU.

More than likely, the staff knew Wimbush would probably start since Monday/Tuesday. That gives Long plenty of time to get a gameplay together.

Sounds serious enough to keep him out rest of the season and nothing to mess around with. Also something that would not be immediately known. I expect the team to rally around this - if Wimbush goes full on deer in the headlights we lean on PJ. Defense, find a new gear and carry us to the playoffs!

Of course this is the game I’m going to this year. I’m banking hard on the cold weather being a 12th man.

Different weather conditions for that game and the expected ones from this one. They likely did not know the severity of the injury during the game, especially if the below is accurate.

Doesn't sound good for a return in the regular season.

I was asked not to share this, but if misinformation is going to be put out there.

He has a hairline fracture in one rib, and the lowest grade of kidney laceration. He is not ruled out for any week beyond this one. Realistically, I could see him getting kept out against Syracuse, but it all has to do with how his kidney progresses. More significant kidney injuries take a month+ to heal, but lesser injuries are on a time frame of about 2 weeks typically. Regardless, they won't put him back on the field until he's healed up.
