A lot to like here. A few observations:

-Looks legit 6'1"-6'2" and filled out a ton from his junior highlights
-accurate with a pretty quick release
-enough athleticism to make people miss, make teams respect the zone read, and gets yards if nothing is there
-Honestly think if his arm was slightly stronger he'd be a top 150 QB. Obviously it isn't and that why he isn't as highly recruited, but he does so many things well and is the prototypical college spread zone read QB
-You can see why Kelly and the staff like him so much, makes quick decisions, athletic, and can run the spread. If nothing else we won't have to change the playbook if he goes in for a injured starter.
-Actually think he can be a quality, efficient starter when surrounded with our weapons and OL in the future, just don't think he can be a star like Winbush. Good find by the staff.

From the highlights from the first four games, his footwork is very good. Now I know it doesn't show all the plays, but he gets his feet set and delivers the ball when it needs to come out.

He's a good quarterback for Kelly to work with. He has some mobility and good footwork. In the college game, his arm strength can be overcome. I'm perfectly fine if we needed to rely on him, since Kelly and Sanford will be coaching him up.

Say what you want about Kelly, but he's been great at making quarterbacks successful at ND. Just look around the country and see major programs with no quality quarterback options. We are on our 3rd stringer from spring, and he looks at worst, serviceable.

Maybe Golson is really more of the QB we saw at the end of last year rather than the beginning and Kelly coaxed him as long as he could and got a lot out of him.

Maybe, maybe not. But if he does the feeling isn't mutual, at least for me. I'm happy we moved on. His mannerisms against USC sealed that deal for me.

Back to topic. Ian looks to be quite the play maker. I bet Samford was planning on being his "steal" in the class at the last school...and just brought him to ND...probably had to do some convincing to BK before doing so.

Looks poised, accurate and efficient. He does not appear to have a howitzer at this point, but I like the fact he seems to be running an offense not too different from our own. Time will tell how he pans out, but I'd feel good having him as a #2 option on our team with a chance at surpassing that after a couple years in college.

I am definitely glad he is not still at ND. I was all on Team Golson (for probably far too long, to be honest), but the spring game sealed it for me. I sat behind the benches and he team responds sooooo much better to Zaire, and when the lights come on Zaire balls out. Golson is actually worse in games than in practice.

And I’ll tell you, I was lucky enough to sit in the 2nd row, right behind the ND bench this past Saturday, and the chemistry on this team is impossible to ignore. We saw how Kizer and Zaire got along, and it is the exact same with Kizer and Wimbush. With the Zaire/Golson controversy hanging over the team’s head the entire camp/season, with Golson’s grumpy demeanor being a distraction, and with every Golson turnover every fan/teammate wondering “here we go again”…I just think the team is better off without him.

I wouldn’t have said that in the spring. And I think he’s probably happier to be outta here as well.

Completely agree with this. I was too a big Golson supporter, but there is no doubt in my mind that we are better off without him. Personally, I wouldn't even play Golson over Kizer at this point.

Ditto for me as well. I bought in the moment I watched Golson's high school highlight tape. He just seemed to have the flair and physical tools to carry a team. It turns out, he'd be my first pick in a backyard game or sandlot game but I'd take Zaire, Kizer and Wimbush over Golson now.

It's hard to dislike the quiet guy but he never responded well to Kelly and never looked fully engaged with the team unless good things were happening.

I'm happy for both parties to part ways.

BK was always downplaying any issues between malik and golson despite what we all thought....BK's words this past sunday regarding how much different the qb's relationships are better this year was the proof in the pudding
