I'll pile on, because I don't think the problem is Nick Coleman. The man can't play football at this level.
The problems I see are institutional and stubborn coaching.
Institutional: The 40 Year Commitment pitch has to go. This is not specific to Coleman but I just can't see how this helps motivate 17yr old kids to fight, compete, and struggle to get better. Their lives are set the minute they sign their papers. In a practical sense, I don't see any harm in cutting a few players every year and doing what in fact today's poster suggests. Can't play? No scholarship renewal.
Sutbborn coaching: It's beyond a familiar refrain but all too common under this regime we see guys continuing to see the field who we all agree are not prepared or capable. I have a list of 12 guys in my head. Why are no adjustments ever made?
Nick Coleman should not see the field again.
I am suggesting that the results you see on the field are absurd.
I'm sorry guys - I'm not meaning to fan the flames - and I do think this has little to do with Nick Coleman. We have at least 3 Nick Colemans on the field every year.
I recognize you all think I'm out of line, but I'm simply suggesting that we have to stop acting like we're so damn special. We're no more special than Army, Navy and the Ivy League. I'm suggesting we cut the BS we put ahead winning football games. It's my belief that if we don't, that's where we are heading.
Why do we want to handcuff ourselves? Why do we treat athletes any different than they are treated elsewhere in football? What does it get us? Loyalty? Extra points in the Crapital One Cup Standings? GSR standings? It gets us a <80 man roster every year, of that much I'm sure.
Honestly, what is the point of the 40 Year Commitment pitch? It's dysfunctional and is emblematic of our entire attitude problem. Best part is, it doesn't even cut both ways. LOL.
Here's my manifesto:
* Academic matters should impact our program to a LESSER degree than other schools, not to an exponentially higher degree. We have had more academic suspensions in the past 5 years than the entire SEC has had in 50 years (not a fact).
* Accept students with less stellar academics - and give them whatever resources are needed to stay eligible. It would be nice if some of them graduated.
* Drop the 40 year commitment motto for recruits. Come to Notre Dame because it gives you the best chance to play football for a living, to achieve glory and win championships.
* Handle legal matters on par with other big-time programs.
* Make a decision regarding conference alignment that best serves our opportunity to win championships. I believe this is best done by joining the ACC fully. Am still not clear how "independence" does anything other than get the rest of CFB to unify against us. I won't miss annual games with Stanford, Navy, and random B1G members. Won't miss NBC either.
* Hire the best coaches money can buy, pay them the most money, give them whatever they need to win championships. This includes turf, jumotrons, names on uniforms, fireworks, billion dollar training facilities, etc...
* Oversign and cut players at the same rate as other top programs. We enter September every year with a self imposed sanction. I wonder if there were any DBs in the last 5 years we said no to because there wasn't enough room? (Hint: there were)
* Stop pretending that anything is more important than winning. I have had enough human interest stories about ND players and staff to last a lifetime. Enough great white hope Rudy reinvented walkon fantasy figures. Enough singing. Enough band. Enough honoring the girls tidlywinks team. Enough graduation rates. Enough class presidents. Enough homely cheerleaders. Enough talk about special this and unique that. Army used to win. They are very special. Nobody cares.
* Take away ticket privileges from anyone not willing to stand and scream their heads off the entire game.
* Don't cheat.
In more ways than one, we are getting further away from 1988 with each passing year.

I still remember Brian Kelly being so high on him and saying how great he was this spring. That's why I never believe a word that comes out of his mouth
To be fair, other folks that watched practice thought he was a going to compete with Watkins for the starting spot before Watkins injury. And thought he looked good this fall camp. For whatever reason he has just fallen a part since then. He looks as if he has no confidence in himself right now. Feel for the kid as he's had a brutal start to his season.
Yep got burnt a few times vs Texas and has zero confidence in anything. Completely has fallen apart and can't tackle anymore.
I don't think he should see the field for the foreseeable future. But I hope he keeps his head down, works hard and can get back in the field and make plays later this year or next season.

Question it is possible Nick could be better at strong safety I have not just watched him every game but he seems willing to tackle against the run and when he is in the game be go more to a cover two with 4 WR's and with 3 WR'S match him up on a TE to help get his confidence back.
Yeah, maybe.
But being willing to tackle and able to tackle are two entirely different things.
He looks more at home at safety want to see him against a better passing team.

ND is actually 19th as a team in the nation for tackles for loss .
He is actually playing an above average safety currently.
Complete 180 from the first two games last year.
Ugh. Imagine Elko as the coordinator in 2015 and 2016.
2015 the team would have been playoff bound.
2016 the team would have had a winning record. Nothing spectacular, but 7-5...8-4 type season.

Isn't he the dude that is linked to tweeting with recruits or the couch guy or something from Twitter? There's a story, I just don't remember what it is.Dude, what did you say to put you into the red rep? I went through all your posts, and the only thing I could see was a tiff last year when you said Black and Osiris weren't coming in that class...and it was right.
Have some rep.

I could say the same thing about Jalen Eliot...he was an option QB if memory serves me correct.
He ran the option as a QB. You know a running QB like the ones at Army and Navy. Please don't have me break this down further.how does once playing QB translate to moving to RB?
