I have heard that Brent would be a big addition to the slot. He could gash the interior from there as well.
Hey, if it got him on the field and we needed a RB, I would be all for it. This kid is a crazy athlete and he definitely has the body mass to do it. We're thick in depth at the WR position, but have some inexperience at the RB position.
I hope the question never comes up though. Even behind Folston, we have some damn fine and young talent. You never know though. If BK has shown is anything, it's that he isn't afraid to give a kid a shot at another position.
Hell... I think he could even play safety.
This is pretty exciting news, IMO. Like BK is saying he's too good of an athlete to keep off the field.
Not really.
Kelly said the move was only prompted by Greg being ineligible. Brent was also going to have a tough time cracking the rotation at WR.
He'd still be (at best) the 3rd string RB and would see the field minimally.
In other words, Brent probably wasn't going to be seen much at WR and he just makes for a serviceable back-up at RB.
I like the move. This kid is an athlete and I'd like to get him on the field, one way or another.
He actually had some playing time at RB here in Speedway.... I thin he will surprise a lot of fans.
Someone else mentioned he played running back in high school a few post above...

I said it in the Pre-Season thread. It is a fact, Brent was a stud at RB in HS playing some of the weakest competition in the state.
I'm not sure, from watching his HS days, if he has the vision or patience at RB. But if he does...watch the f--- out. He is a monster with quick "just go, stop to start" ability.
He was almost exclusively used as a running back his senior year out of need. 1300 yds..... 8 ypc.......18TD and added 400 yds on 28 rec w/ 5 TD.
Also, let's be fair... Speedway hardly played the worst competition in Indiana. They lost 3 games to the top two 2A schools Scecina Memorial and twice to state champ Cardinal Ritter and to 1A state champ Tri-Central. That's a pretty good conference. Is it the MIC, no but it's better than most of Indiana.
The slot is his for dominating.
I'll be fair...Scecina (I used to go to school there for a couple of years) and Ritter, although nice 2A schools, are hardly the WC, BD, Carmel, Center Grove's of Indiana. The competition was not good. I'm not saying JB couldn't compete with the best of the best; just saying his competition was far from the best coming out.
He's every bit of a stud and can't wait to see what he does from the backfield or slot.
His ball skills and route running will be of the A/A+ variety relative to other RB's. Huge mismatch for LB's or S's. This should be interesting. Part of me hopes he balls out at RB and sticks there for now, though I think he's a more natural WR.

Maybe a bigger Theo Riddick in the making??
Am I the only one that doesnt understand why Amir Carlisle isnt the 3rd emergency RB?

And my team defeated Tri-Central AT Tri-Central the following season while they were still ranked #1. 😁He was almost exclusively used as a running back his senior year out of need. 1300 yds..... 8 ypc.......18TD and added 400 yds on 28 rec w/ 5 TD.

This is a prime example of coaches taking away from a players potential. Kelly's quotes almost make it seem like well there is to much talent at WR so we are moving you to RB. That comes off to me as they aren't even giving him a shot or chance at WR. He looked pretty darn good in the Spring Game, physically he is more gifted than anyone of the WR's we have. I'm not saying throw the ball to him 10 times a game but damn give the kid a chance. He didn't even get any passes attempted to him last year. How about throwing the ball to him 2-3 times a game to start off and see what he can do with it. Maybe he will fail, or maybe he will take off you never know.
