Well to be fair....this time last year BK was hyping the living hell out of Alize....getting everyone jacked up on how productive he was going to be in 2017. Which did end up leading to a huge let down.

I wish they (Long and BK) just downplayed his spring and let events unfold without sky high expectations.

BK has been clear that he needs to see it on Saturday

Sometimes it just takes time for a kid to "get" it. Some of these players want to move to the front of the line right out of high school but don't necessarily understand that they have to work to get there. Maybe he is finally starting to do the things necessary to be productive on the field. The talent is there... hopefully he understands how to use that talent to be a better player.

So you are saying he has potential...

Every year since he's been @ ND. Came in hyped as a "match-up nightmare", "unstoppable in the red zone", "a TE that can really stretch the field", and on and on ....

I'll believe it when I see it. It's hard to get excited about any hype regarding Jones, Mack or whatever name he is going by.

Our QB situation in game scenarios makes-or-breaks our season. Not Mack.

And he, too; looks great in practice. That’s why he will be the starter vs scUM. Book can’t match Wimbush in practice. It will have to tramslate on the field for the kid. If not...

yeah most of the ND beat writers agree Wimbush will take first snap versus Michigan and it's unlikely Book beats him out in the camp. But its possible Book could replace Wimbush due to on field performance pretty quickly

This is the first encouraging thing I've heard. I really hope he keeps his head down and works hard to finally reach his potential. He could be such a wildcard in this offense.

Unfortunately that's still talking...making excuses....Mack doesn't owe anybody an excuse....he just needs to do his very best on the field...

.... well if he didn't put out his best effort for his teammates, he sort of DOES owe them an apologetic excuse.

Well that apology (excuse) is best delivered on the field of play, with focus and effort.....that apology (excuse) ON SOCIAL MEDIA.....is relatively meaningless....

Will he be allowed a 5th year considering he sat out a year?

Student Athletes in Div 1 get 5 years to play 4. His first season was '15 and he played. He sat out '16 and played in '17 and '18. Thus he's played 3 seasons in his first 4 years leaving him one more if he and ND chose so. You still have to qualify with ND Academics to get a 5th year.

SENIOR SEASON (2018) Currently playing

JUNIOR SEASON (2017) Saw action in 10 games and started six contests
Caught 19 passes for 166 yards and one TD
Hauled in first career TD reception at Miami, Fla. (Nov. 11)
Registered two catches for 41 yards against Georgia (Sept. 9)
Recorded a season-high 43 yards receiving on five grabs at Boston College (Sept. 16)

SOPHOMORE SEASON (2016)Practiced for the Irish but did not participate in games

FRESHMAN SEASON (2015) Played in all 13 games and started against No. 14 Georgia Tech (Sept. 19), UMass (Sept. 26), Navy (Oct. 10), Pittsburgh (Nov. 7) and Boston College (No. 21)
Registered a career-high three receptions on three different occasions: Georgia Tech (Sept. 19), UMass (Sept. 26) and USC (Oct. 17)
Recorded a season-best 56 receiving yards on three catches against the Minutemen
Hauled in a career-long 45-yard catch that was a crucial play in the fourth quarter game-winning TD drive at No. 21 Temple (Oct. 31)

Unless he lights it up going forward he needs to come back. Right now he has reputation of dropping some routine passes.

He’s basically a less consistant Eric Ebron in my opinion. I know Ebron went crazy his last year at NC, but when you compare them from a measurable and play type stand point that’s what I see.

He has dropped 2 fairly easy catches this season while every other receiver has dropped at least that many and in Fink's case (and Claypool's) a fair few more than that. Mack has caught a handful of really good catches as well.
I think the narrative that he is an underachiever is mainly based on him missing a season due to academics.

No, it's based on poor play last year when given opportunities to make big plays. But, it looks like that is in the rearview mirror because Alize has made some huge plays for us this year.

I hope he's starting to get a ton of confidence because he can be a huge weapon for us moving forward. If defenses want to shade the safeties over our taller receivers, we can run our TEs on streaks to open it up.

Tbh I totally forgot he missed a season due to academics. It's because last year he dropped everything.

The timing of this post was terrific. Ebron went OFF last night, with a couple of drops to boot

It's because that year was dropped from everybody's memory. Nothing happened either, nobody won the NBA Finals or the World Series either. I hear that people started worshiping some gorilla or something.

Haha I woke up and saw that as well. Luck sure likes to target him. Hopefully Mack can now go off as well this weekend!
You can always count on Eric for a drop or two no matter how well he plays lol.

I'm a Colts fan and I've been less than impressed with Ebron this year. I think Mack's play has improved with every game.

Ebron led TE/WRs last night, right?

Mack is indeed improving. He will continue to improve in my opinion now that he has an accurate passer tossing to him. I really do think he'll find consistency.
