If this kid popped today, Id be excited. The kid is a ball player. He might not the biggest, fastest, strongest kid. But he is in the right spot and makes the play.

1-on-1 in a competitive setting and this kids technique and breaks are flawless. Thats pure coaching and the kid being a sponge. Talented WRs but obviously not the elite of the elite. But he does what talented kids do and you can tell he is above the crop at the camp.

In the clip the last 3 plays.

3:53 mark - absolutely fantastic.
4:01 mark - patience and plays assignment football and sits in his zone perfect.
4:11 mark - doesnt get better than that.

Thats stuff players make when they are taught and then LEARN. The fact it is in a camp setting with guys hes never played with means he trusts the coaching in zone schemes.

Like I said, hes not the elite prospect, but he is more than capable of playing BCS football by the time he will be able to challenge for PT.

Nothing too earth shattering. Will just look to continue to build relationships with the staff and team. Will make his 3rd trip to South Bend and feels he knows what ND has to offer. Wants to have a decision made after his next month of visits so he can focus on winning a national title for Bishop Gorman.

“@GregBiggins: The overall group of DBs was very strong, Dechaun Holiday was deserving of MVP and also really liked Frank Buncom and Nicco Ferttita”

Kelly and his staff, the first in a long time, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt to in a long, very long, painfully long and excructiangly long time.

TP, you're right. From a technique standpoint he does things extremely well, which covers up for his lack of burst. Two times when he got beat it looked like both of those kids had very good skills and quickness. He'll definitely be able to play BCS level ball.

I hope he has a committable offer. No, he doesn't have 5:s: physical traits but it's hard to see him not being a big value added to the program. Could help out at a large number of positions and special teams.

I would be happy if he committed and i'm sure that he would contribute over his career, but I would rather fill the slot with someone better or a high ceiling flyer at a position of greater need.

Just don't see a very high ceiling with this kid.

his team plays probably one of the hardest schedules in high school football, something like half of their games are against florida, cali and other out of state teams...Don Bosco etc
it also helps to continue the pipeline to a great football school.....certainly doesn't hurt that his dad is a millionaire and you know it brings even more publicity which always helps w/ recruiting...win win imo

Anti Gary Gray. Kid is always in good position and finds the ball. Have to love that about a DB.

I feel like a lot of the Gary Gray hate is unwarranted. He wasn't nearly as bad of a player as people on this site try to vilify him for. Most of the dislke comes from one single play where he didn't turn his head and it cost us the game against Michigan. That one play shouldn't have to represent his entire career. Which statistically, really wasn't too shabby.

I agree....he was no Clifford Jefferson, that's for damn sure.

I think Nico has some good value as a situational DB. Against spread teams he'll be able to cover those small fast WR/RB's. Also, I think he'll be fun to watch on ST's ala Collinsworth, Jackson, etc. However, I don't see him as an every down DB or one that will play against every team on our schedule. Lastly, I don't see a big difference in player between him and Tranquill in fact I like Tranquill better.

That was my original reaction, but hen why do you think the coaches offered? I think he is a strong DB and there is a spot at ND for him

As BK and staff build the necessary depth as each position which takes time. You need multiple cycles to properly do this unless your in the SEC, which last I checked we weren't. When that has occurred you can start to recruit players for specific needs. 3 deep at 22 positions gets you to 66 scholarships. That leaves plenty of spaces for guys that will play specific roles like the one I imagine Nico will play. Lastly, I do think its partly scheme related.

Yes, I think it has more to do with the school than it does his fathers money. Again, I think there is a solid situational player here. I like Tranquill in that role more but Nico would be 1B in that scenario.

Would he be even going to Gorman if it wasn't for his father's money though?

There are raw talents around the country that don't get the opportunity to be sponsored at a private school and their parents dont have the money to pay for it. Would Nicco have been sponsored by someone to attend Gorman if he was just some kid from Vegas in a middle class home?

Anyone think this trend of adding rich parent's kids is a strategic plan by Swarbrick to get big money on NDs side so that when we end up paying players, we can make it rain?

Lol.

Lol.

It's not even that. There's no denying that having billionare donors is a positive for the University's endowment (already one of the biggest in college sports). That endowment is how we pay for better facilities, pay for top coaches and pay for big time marketing. All of those things are how you get recruits right now.

Lol.

ND is a prestigious school and kids that come from these types of backgrounds will usually gravitate towards that. Hunter Jr., CRob, Nico, etc. are all good football players. I highly doubt Kelly would be making offers because Jack told him to. Kelly wants to win, offering bullshit scholarships isn't going to do that.

I have no idea what the answer is to that question and frankly I don't care. How does that change his recruitment?
