Could he be back by mid season?
Heard it was stress fracture and he sent a snapchat that he was out 8-12 weeks.
Not a huge loss. Two deep seemed all but set with Taylor, Cage, Tillery, Jones. Need Tiassum or Mokwuah to be serviceable at least and we will be fine

Actually, with the progress MDT was making in other areas, this isn't all bad, necessarily. He could apply for a medical redshirt, no?
Apparently he has a Jones fracture, not sure what that is. Had surgery yesterday and is out eight weeks. ISD

Intramedullary screw fixation of Jones fractures. Analysis of failure.

Abstract
Treatment failures after screw fixation of Jones fractures are reported to be infrequent. Between 1993 and 1999, 15 patients (mean age, 21.7 years) underwent cannulated screw fixation of a Jones fracture at our institution. There were six treatment failures: four refractures and two symptomatic nonunions. The mean time to full activity was 6.8 weeks for the patients with failure compared with 9 weeks for patients who did not have complications. Although all patients were asymptomatic and radiographically progressing to union before return to full activity, only one of six patients with failures had complete radiographic union, compared with six of seven patients with no complications. There was a higher proportion of elite athletes (division I or professional level) among the failure group (83%) compared with those without complications (11%). There were no significant differences in age, sex, screw diameter, use of bone graft, or age of fracture between patients with failures and those without complications. Return to full activity, especially among elite athletes, before complete radiographic union was predictive of failure. Even though intramedullary screw fixation offers advantages over nonoperative treatment, a significant risk of postoperative complications exists.
Horrible news is what it is.
I know, I know, sample size/underpowered/one institution/better techniques with subsequent cumulative knowledge (including using larger screws: link). But nonetheless...
MDT is out of his cast, per ISD. Sounds like he won't be able to practice for a while though. I know that the D line is finally using a rotation, but say it takes him a month to get back up to speed, can this year be a medical redshirt year? Or do the staff just play him anyways?
I had that type of fracture a few years back sucked ass for recovery time. Had a fridge fall over onto my foot and cause it.
Yep.Play him if he can ear the snaps. He already redshirted and would have to miss another season to injury to apply for the 6th year.
Agree. Saw the same thing, he was occupying two Stanford linemen to free others up.I noticed on a few snaps that he was doing a really good job at taking on Stanford’s double team blocks and causing traffic at the LOS.
