Great run stopper. Not so good in pass defense

The trend in nfl is smaller, quicker lb’s.

Play that way for the full 18 season and he would be a first rounder. If he goes this year he potentially halves his money.

True....but he saw what happened to Jaylon Smith. I bet he’s gone.

Huh? Jaylon was a top five pick. Coney's a second or third rounder (at best) if he goes out this year. He could play his way into a lot more money with another year.

Jaylon was a top five pick.

Exactly, Smith could have sat out his junior year the way Clowney basically did.
Morgan seeming to go backwards is probably a better example but then I thought Morgan was excellent today.

From a strictly financial standpoint I would come back if I were him. He's a late round pick right now... not enough quality film as a starter in coverage and he's not going to blow people away with his measurables. If plays another season as a full time starter and produces at similar levels he's going to make himself millions.

Coney is quoted saying that next years D is going to be scary. This gives me hope.

Ditto. The Irish needs him next year with his LB knowledge and skillset!

I'd say that's a major hint he's staying, but do you know the source of that quote? Is it on a post-game video from Coney or on another site article?

If Scouts universally love him, and he gets a first round grade, then he needs to do the best thing for himself. I don't think he'll get a first round grade though. I'm not a scout though.

And that makes him a fourth rounder at best. That’s like saying Book is the best QB on our team.....so what?

What makes him a 4th rounder at best? Not sure what you're talking about (?)

Love? He’s a sophomore. He’s not eligible for the draft this year.

The tweet said Coney was the best on the ND Defense. Not the best Junior or Senior. So my point is, if Coney is the best on the ND D, and Love is likely a 3rd, maybe even 2nd rounder right now (if he could go), then they must assume Coney is at worst a 3rd rounder, but probably better.

Are draft grades back yet? I dunno about a 1st Round grade either. Is he one of the three or four best linebackers in the college game? Last I saw (though not sure when in the season it was updated) he wasn't a top ten ILB in the draft.

We love him but there are more accomplished guys with the same skills at his position elsewhere in CFB. It's just that this is what it feels like to have an Alabama linebacker.

So he should come back, lead our defense to the playoffs and walk into a first round pick. That's what I say.

There are a lot of pretty decent LB's in this year's upcoming draft and I personally can't see Te'Von going any higher than a mid-to-late 3rd rounder at best. He comes back next year and gets some pre-season hype for potential awards (i.e. Butkus), plays well, then his stock elevates to 2nd rounder or so.

His frame and lack of film showing coverage ability. Nobody is going to draft a LB with half a year of great film as 2 down LB + 6' tall higher than the 4th round. It does not happen.

Look at guys like Matakevich who have YEARS of great film as a 2 down player and go very late in the draft. With another very good year, Coney will play himself into the second round. Without that, I think 4th round would be his ceiling this year and likely worse than that after measurablea testing at the combine. Of all the guys, he's the one with the most to gain coming back IMO.

First, I asked BeatSC that because i didn't understand his response as stated in relationship to that tweet.

I don't disagree with your take personally. But Greg Gabriel's tweet has a lot of weight. I've been listening to him on the radio for the past few months and this guy is so plugged in. If he's saying scouts think he's great on film, then you have to take seriously the fact that their are teams who may reach on Coney.

Not in that specific post.

Coney is a very important piece to what could be a very stout defense, should we return the necessary players.

If you offered me Tillery stayed and Coney left, I'd take it. Obviously we want both, but guys like Tillery create the possibility for guys like Coney to shine.

Both would be standouts next year on a really good defense, but give me Tillery if I have to choose.
