Just keep in mind that he continues to say that he's going to OV to Miami regardless of what he decides on the 21st. That doesn't sound like a kid that is fully ready to call it quits. So, yes I could see him waffling between now and January.

I wouldn't accept a verbal from him until he's ready to truly shut his recruitment down.

Most kids down south commit and then visit every school from LSU to South Carolina. I don't think that would be the best way to go about this commitment.

Totally agree with you. If you recall that's basically what we said to him over the summer and he wasn't willing to do it. I wonder if that's changed or he's just winging it at this point.

IIRC, Coney tried to verbal once already, and the staff told him to hold off until he's ready to shut it down. Not sure why we'd change our stance at this point, but in Alford I trust.

So because most kids do that we should just be ok with it. Well while we're doing what everybody else does screw ethics, morals, and academics. Let's grey shirt, oversign, and push out under performing football players.

Ok, well let's take the 3 star from Indiana who is an RKG who is a true Notre Dame man right? and just stick to the Midwest recruiting. I am saying if you want to recruit down South this is what most kids do. Try being a Florida fan and folowing Byron Cowart recruitment, Trent Thompson commit to Georgia and then visits Alabama and Auburn. Pointing out that recruiting down south is just a different animal. The staff seems to really want Coney so I think they are going to deal with it.

Top kids down south committed
Cowart- I think we all know
Thompson- vistits to Auburn and Alabama
Kelvin Toliver- taking all 5 officals
Calvin Ridley- taking visits to FSU and Miami
Terry Godwin- visits Auburn more then Georgia it seems

I'm not saying I agree with it but it's just how it goes. A lot of local pressure it visit other schools and stay close to home. If you want to win championships you better recruit the south and have to deal with all the BS that goes with it. IMO all of this of course. Here goes my "shitty attitude" and being different here.

Idk, would you rather a kid change his announcement date or commit and then flip? I understand that each kid is different, and Coney leaves everyone wondering if he is still unsure even after he chooses, but I would rather the kid wait instead of making a rash decision.

From what I could find, there was original talk about him committing Late August/Early September. Then he announced October 21 a few days ago and now it's been changed to October 23rd. I'm guessing the change from the 21st to the 23rd had something to do with the announcement being on ESPN.

Evidently still struggling with the decision. Last paragraph about making one of the All American games definitely rings true. His twitter has quite a few posts where he is lobbying/begging for a spot on one of the teams.
P.B. Gardens LB Tevon Coney to commit on Oct. 23 - Sun Sentinel

Palm Beach Gardens linebacker Tevon Coney said Tuesday evening he is still trying to decide his college future.

One thing Coney is sure of is his commitment date has moved from Oct. 21 to Oct. 23.

Coney said his commitment ceremony will still be at 9 a.m. at Palm Beach Gardens High School. He said the details are still being worked out to determine the actual room where he will make his announcement.

"One day, I feel like I should go to this school and one day, I feel like I should go to that school," Coney said. "I'm still trying to decide where I want to go and what school I should feel comfortable with and where I want to get my degree. I want to make the right decision."

The 6-foot-1, 221-pound linebacker said his decision will be televised on ESPN.

"I had a feeling I was going to commit and [ESPN] asked me if I had set a date," said Coney about his commitment being announced on the national network. "I said I was going to set a date and I knew what day it was going to be."

Coney's commitment will bring an end to the most high-profile recruitment currently going on in Palm Beach County. Rated as a four-star recruit by several recruiting services, Coney is the No. 1 recruit for 2015 by the Sun Sentinel in Palm Beach County.

Several schools have pursued Coney but his Top 3 choices are Florida, Miami and Notre Dame.

Coney recently took his official visit to Florida over the weekend, a sign indicating that his commitment could be coming.

"People still ask me every day and they ask me where I'm going," Coney said. "I tell them I don't know yet."

He and his Gators teammates are coming off a 40-20 loss to Glades Central. Gardens will attempt to rebound on Friday when it travels to Jupiter.

Already a well-known prospect on the camp circuit, Coney's profile was raised when he helped Gardens go on an unprecedented run to the Class 8A state semifinals Gardens was defeated, 37-10, to eventual Class 8A champions South Dade.

"It's been a great success," Coney said. "This has been everything I have prayed for. The only thing that I have left is to make one of the All-American games whether it's the Army All-American Game or the Under Armour All-American Game. Those are just one of the things I haven't succeeded in but I have accomplished all the goals I have looked forward to accomplishing."

Still no idea why these kids set these arbitrary deadlines for themselves. Unless maybe it's this...

"I had a feeling I was going to commit and [ESPN] asked me if I had set a date," said Coney about his commitment being announced on the national network. "I said I was going to set a date and I knew what day it was going to be."

Take your time. Make the right decision for you. Fuck the rest of them, hangers-on, coaches, cable networks. I almost feel bad for these recruits sometimes. Then I remember what a ridiculous opportunity they have.

No, you should feel bad for them. Many things happen behind the scenes that just add extra pressure to their recruitment. A kid could be set on a school, then their coach/family member/friend/girlfriend/etc chime in their thoughts. Then they have to tell coaches they have built relationships with no. Next they get hit up by media. Then after they commit, they are still recruited by the coaches they told no, like they never told them no.

I agree its definitely an absolutely great opportunity and they are blessed to have it. But, its not always the kid that is wish washy.

From all accounts, those around his town, think its best for him to leave Florida for school and Notre Dame has really sold itself well here. If he does commit to Notre Dame, I highly doubt he takes any other visits and if he does, look for Notre Dame to tell him he doesnt have a spot. ND is already battling for Tillery and this staff doesnt put up with BS in recruiting anymore as you saw with Barnett.

TP,
Please expound on why they think it would be best for him to go out of state.

Maybe he pushed his announcement date back because ESPN asked him? As far as his decision being based on coaching stability, Florida looks a lot more dicey than ND at the moment. I know BK has had to put up with the Frozen Five scenario, but he's not seeing pressure from others like Muschamp. Also, even with the "FF", Kelly is getting close enough to winning the NC that I think he stays at least until he gets back to the NCG.

Not that there is any merit to this but I have three reasons why going out of state makes sense at this time for Coney.

1. The Criminoles
2. The Convicts
3. The Swamp Dumpster Fire.

Are you trying to imply that the big time college football programs in FL are not of very good character and/or quality?

Per TV this morning. All signs point to ND which is stating the obvious. With that said more confirmation this morning that UF may not even have room for Coney currently. Once again if we are getting Coney by default this could end poorly. Also, more than likely this shuts down LB recruiting for the time being. Wiltfong says, that its not set in stone but will ND sitting well with a lot of targets its seems that way.

I understand the concern, but this was the same deal with Kolin Hill last year, and he didn't flip. Not saying it's not a legit concern, but of all of the last minute flips we've had, how many have been because the player didn't have an offer from his favorite school? Seems like most of our flips are guys that already have every offer they could possibly want, they just change their mind about ND.

And him being an EE helps a lot. I still think we should continue to recruit other LBs, but if he commits to ND, he has time to become happy with that decision as the class/coaches builds relationships with him and Florida drags their feet.

Hopefully Baker waits until Spring classes start before he flips to OSU then.

Per Wiltfong the staff has told all LB's Kirkland, Coney, and Bilal that we are taking 1 more LB and it's first come first serve. I totally agree with Whiskey here.

Wiltfong threw down a crystal ball for ND this morning and now Bilal commits. Curious if the above is still true
