1st string RT, Bobby Massie, is listed as Out. Alex is listed behind him and may start.

Of all the guys to lose, Daniels was easily the guy up front the Bears couldn't afford to. Bars is doing what he can but going from Daniels to him is a significant step down. He's gonna need to show better, or else the Bears are seriously screwed up front.

The Bears offensive line woes continued this weekend against the Titans. The line is makeshift. Starting center Cody Whitehair, tackle Jason Spriggs and backup lineman Lachavious Simmons were on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Backup center Sam Mustipher was out with a knee injury. Starting right tackle Bobby Massie went on injured reserve this week with a knee injury. As noted, starting LG James Daniels is out for the year. with an injury in mid-Oct. Sam Mustipher was promoted to the Active roster list then.

So, Alex Bars was switched to Center, playing 100% of the snaps and earning a 36.3 grade from PFF.

The Bears started Charles Leno at left tackle, Arlington Hambright at left guard, Alex Bars at center, Germain Ifedi at right guard and Rashaad Coward at right tackle.

Alex is an Exclusive Rights Free Agent (ERFA) next year and has played 17% of the Bears offensive snaps this year.

The addition of Bars and Mustipher have helped reshape the Bears O-line! David Montgomery better be buying these fellas a Rolex!

Bears OL suddenly looks very good going into next year. You can have James Daniels play LG with the only need now at LT. Draft a LT in first round and then you have an OL of new LT, Daniels, Mustipher, Bars and Massie. Whitehair would be the 6th OL. Not a bad problem to have.

Isn't it amazing that he was undrafted? NFL teams put way too much stock into injuries and a player potentially needing to sit a year, whether it is injury-related or just needing a year to improve.

Blessing in disguise for Bars. Get him out of that cursed franchise.

I know a team that just played in the Super Bowl and lost because they couldn't protect their franchise QB for more than two seconds at a time, and could use some fresh interior OL to compete for a job...

I got bad news for y'all, Bars was physically overmatched. Maybe he never fully recovered from that ACL tear, but this isn't a bad move by the Bears.

Bars is a good back-up NFL lineman, and should find a team. He can sub in a variety of positions.

NFL is a long grind, and even the Big Uglies can need recovery breaks. Yes, he's not a (relatively speaking) powerhouse, but he is a very good technician (just like all our OLine in the pros.) That why the pros love our guys. Tommy Kraemer was doing that same sort of job for the Lions.

I'm curious to see what Alex does. The free agent market for backup OL can be fickle. He has multiple other options available to him besides football. I would not be shocked if Alex essentially retired. The timing, location of team, and years on contract of his pending signing will be telling.

Still wonder how he would’ve developed at OT had HH not had to move him inside. Was definitely a OT framed guy.

It is a bit of a headscratcher since Bars was evaluated as the best OT prospect of his group when he arrived. He and Q were neck and neck on this and both moved inside. Mt. McGlinchey turned into one OT, but HH still was searching for the other (thus the split between Kraemer and Hainsey there in the big Joe Moore winning year.)

Sat at a table with him, his parents, and watched their brother play a game one time (PSU if I recall). Great family, Alex was one of the widest dudes I've ever seen.
