I'm sorry but if you have the history that you do with QBs you do not take a QB is RD1 unless there is some ungodly talent out there like a Tom Brady. Play it safe with MG.
Try the 6th round, 199th selection after 6 other QBs.

Well the rumors, to be taken with a giant grain of salt, are that Hue and co are all in on Garrett and it's the front office that is pushing for Trubisky. I think it's all bullshit coming from outside of Berea to try and keep some suspense for Thursday night but who knows. This is the same organization that took Justin Gilbert at #8.
problem for Browns is that if they pick Garrett he will likely grow to hate the team and become a bust anyways due to the incompetence and mediocrity around him. They fooked either way.
Is it just me, or are the Browns not as far away from being competitive as people think? I know they went 1-15, but they were in a bunch of games. Maybe Garrett, and some other key draft picks (if drafted competently), could be part of an actual, successful rebuild.
They don't need a QB right now, though they are lacking. Let Kessler be the guy, maybe he works out. But to draft one of these guys right now, it only resets the clock IMO.

I agree. If I were them, I would target a guy like Dobbs or Chad Kelly late in the draft. Kessler actually played pretty well last year and they should get the most bang for their buck with all those picks.

I think Chad Kelly will be a boil on the ass of the team that picks him. He's trouble and I'd avoid him at all costs.
Kessler also may have cte after last year

I would be fine with the Bears picking him in late rounds. Like round 6 or so.
Can you specifically speak to what incidents concern you? Personally, I think his "red flags" are overblown.

Didn't he get arrested for threatening to shoot up a bar with his AK?
He made a stupid comment after a fight in a bar. He didn't actually have an ak when they arrested him. It really wasn't anything more than a bar fight that got blown out of proportion. It also happened three years ago. He had quite a successful, relatively quite career after that. Just doesn't really bother me when you weigh his talent, pedigree and the fact that you can get him extremely late in the draft.

Threatening to shoot people with an automatic weapon isn't necessarily benign. Even if the weapon wasn't in his possession.
His transfer from Clemson should tell you something. His personality on the field, rubs me the wrong way. I'm fairly certain he's the same guy who got into shouting matches with his coaches/teammates on the sideline.
He comes across as an entitled brat who kind of wants to play thug. If I'm a franchise, I steer clear. But then again, I would've never signed Pacman Jones and the Bengals didn't hesitate.
I wouldn't draft Joe Mixon in the 5th if he was still hanging around because, as a franchise, i think it's important to show where your values are. You are drafting a parasite for the locker room. He runs da ball good but he also beats women and tries to intimidate parking attendants.
When a guy thinks he's larger than life, you have problems. I love the Patriots already stated they won't draft Mixon, even if he fell in their laps.
I believe there are enough athletic men without baggage that can help a team win.
The only counterpoint I have to that is that Kelly was at a high school game during Ole Miss's bye week just last year, and was running on the field trying to get involved with a fight that broke out.
I don't know if his mental lapses are quite that far behind him.
But that also doesn't take away the value of picking him late, especially if your team has picks to burn.
This post came at a perfect time. Just sat down to lunch .
You've never heard someone yell "I'll kill you" or the like in the heat of a fight? I don't think it's immaterial at all that he didn't actually own a gun. It shows that it was a blind threat in the heat of the moment by a kid.
While I do see this as a red flag, it was four years ago and Clemson had Deshaun Watson....soooo....
His uncle was an entitled ahole too, but he was also a hall of famer.
Well, judging by my mock draft, I disagree here. Lol.
Mixon s teammates and coaches have had nothing but positive things to say about him. There is no evidence that he was ever a bad locker room guy.
Some of the best players in the league think they're larger than life. The Pats are also full of shit. They have won a lot of games with thugs, including Hernandez, the king of thugs. It's a myth that they don't have thugs just like every other team.
There aren't more athletic guys at the pick they could get them at. There's no risk with using a late round pick on a flyer imo. Every team in the league has bad hombres, don't kid yourself.
To summarize:
1. Threatening to kill someone is okay because it was in the heat of the moment and there was no gun present.
2. Mixon must be a good guy because his coaches and teammates have nothing bad to say. I wonder what the woman and parking lot attendant have to say, probably not important cuz he plays football good.
3. I suppose most organizations make exceptions but it appears the Patriots are still stinging from the Hernandez choice and have publicly stated they aren't in the running for Mixon. I don't know why that should be characterized as anything but laudable.
I like principled actions, you apparently less so. Or you don't believe anyone can be principled after having previously made a mistake. Or you find it hypocritical essentially absolving all organizations who draft players with criminal histories.
That's alright, we just have different driving forces. Such is life.

1) Did I say that? I said that it was blown out of proportion, which it was. It was a fight, kids get into fights.
2) Again... not what I said. I'm sure Mixon isn't a good guy, but that wasn't your original point. You said that he would be a "parasite to the locker room", which there's no evidence of that. My comment of his teammates and coaches saying the opposite, is evidence to the contrary. I never said he was a "good guy".
3) Stung? Guy helped them win a title and they know that. Blount literally punched a dude in the face during a game. Spikes had a ton of legal problems, etc, etc. They always have and always will have some bad dudes just like every other team. They don't care about that, they care whether they "do their job" and perform. That's it.
I don't absolve them, but I don't stick my head in the sand and act like NFL players are all choir boys. Many of them are angry, violent people. Why do you think they are so good at an angry/violent game?
This isn't entirely accurate. He was at his little brothers game, a big fight broke out on the field, and he ran down to help his brother who was caught in the middle of it.
I think the "help his brother" thing is a convenient cover for a totally dumb move. He was more concerned about getting involved, based on his demonstrative actions, than getting to his brother or breaking it up.
And I know it's your family, but it's also high school sports... let the coaches and refs handle the on-field shit, especially if you're a DI quarterback on your bye week.
Just not a good pattern of decision-making.
The coaches and refs had lost control, that's why he went down there. To each their own, but you better bet your ass I'm running onto the field if my brother is in the middle of a full blown brawl.
Ha, if you watch the clip, his brother is already with teammates and the fight has already mostly cooled down, and that's when Chad Kelly is trying to find someone to fight and motioning for someone to "come get some!!!"
I'd be running in, too, but not with intentions of fighting a bunch of high school kids. I'd be running in to pull my guy out of the pile.
