Take this for what it is, just something I read on "inside the gug" forum on 247. I won't quote it as its not allowed but a poster with a big posting history said that they sat in front of Kizer's parents at the game yesterday and that his parents, very nice people, said they want DeShone to come back to ND next year but they think/expect him to go to the NFL.

Just posting what I just read. Take it for what it is.

I personally know two individuals who work in the Giants front office. They may be looking to draft a QB. Currently the Giants are not even remotely considering Kizer. Take is for what its worth.

I don't think he's ready to perform in the NFL, but I think he declares and is drafted high. I can't blame the kid for taking the money.

Out of curiosity, do they like Webb or Mahomes? Who do they like?

I personally feel we'd be a better team with Kizer's back and I think he WILL come back but if he didn't, me and a lot of folks would be very excited to see Wimbush and what he can do. Wimbush would have a great line in front of him and great talent at all the skill positions. It's just worrisome thinking about him getting hurt as I'm certain Zaire transfers.......

Yeah because they won't be drafting anywhere close to what it would take to get Kizer.

I don't know if he is or isn't ready. I can't say I thought Prescott would ever be ready but I do always ask... why can't you develop on the sideline with you NFL team as much as you can develop staying in college running an offense that is nothing like you will run when you become a starter down the road?

Now if the Bears draft him and name him starter Day 1... He will suck. 100% guarantee.

If they keep Hoyer for a year and then bring DK in when he's seasoned, he has a chance. Wait! No he doesn't, Chicago is the place where QB's go to die. ONE Pro Bowl in my life. And... I. Am. Old.

If Kizer goes pro this year, it will be a massive mistake. No way he goes that high with what he has shown. Stay another year with an improved offense and he can greatly increase his draft status. Right now I couldn't imagine any team taking him anything more than a project and that isn't going to be he money rounds.

Honestly I did not ask them. I was just curious as to what they thought of Kizer. Next time I speak with them I will ask. They may not tell me though. The one in particular who goes out to the combine is generally more tight lipped about who they are focusing on.

No offense but the guys who do this for a living still have DK as high as #2 to the 49ers.

He was #1 to the Browns a month ago. So he's slipped a bit.

I'm not saying you are wrong not to chose him Top 10 but to say he's a project is borderline silly. Also, why does he get better staying in college running an offense he'll never run again? He won't have to waste bandwidth knowing the intricacies of the read option in the future for example. Sitting on the bench for a year and getting up to speed with whatever NFL offense he lands is more use than balling out at ND in a college offense. Did Blake Bortles need another year at UCF to become a 4000+ yd passer at Jax by year two?

As a Bears fan, I'd be ok with them taking him and sitting him behind Hoyer for a year. Then hand it over to him in 2018... or the second half of the year if he's ready to run it.

Walter Football

*** 2017 NFL MOCK DRAFT (3 rounds) updated Oct. 27. This mock draft will be updated occasionally. Check out old versions of this 2017 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock section. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***

#1. Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M

I've slotted DeShone Kizer here for several weeks, but I've decided to make a change. The more I thought about it, the more I was convinced that the Browns would stay the course with Cody Kessler. The Browns really like Kessler, who has shown some grit as a rookie, so they may opt to develop him rather than spend another early pick on a quarterback.

Cleveland has drafted some pass-rushers lately, but Myles Garrett is way too good to pass up on. He's the top prospect in this class, and he's a no-brainer for Cleveland if the team plans on passing on a quarterback.

Pick change; previously DeShone Kizer, QB

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#2. San Francisco 49ers: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame

The 49ers missed out on a quarterback in an update three weeks ago. Now that they're 1-6, however, they can nab a potential franchise signal-caller. That's obviously something they need to do; Blaine Gabbert has been benched, while Colin Kaepernick has transformed into a pick-six machine because he refuses to study film and improve the mental part of his game.

DeShone Kizer is currently the favorite to be the first quarterback chosen. Some team sources have said that they favor him over Deshaun Watson and Brad Kaaya, and it's easy to see why, thanks to his arm strength, accuracy and mobility.

Pick change; previously Brad Kaaya, QB

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#3. Chicago Bears: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

The Jay Cutler era will officially be over when the Bears select a quarterback in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. You could've argue that it was already over with Brian Hoyer seizing the job, but Hoyer broke his arm, and Cutler is back. He just won't go away!

College football's version of Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson had an amazing run despite being just a mere sophomore. The sky's the limit for him, despite his slow start this season.

In this case, year 2 to year 3 isn't of concern to my point unless you think had he stayed in school he wouldn't have regressed this year after having a 4000+ yd season last year.

Kizer should go bro because this years QB class is average at best. I just think it's time to see what we have with Brandon Wimbush. Kizer will ball out for a quarter and then disappear for three quarters along with our entire offense.

Everyone inside the Gug says Wimbush is the real deal and is the most talented so let's see what he's got. As many believe Zaire will be gone

The highlighted is a great point.

I'm sure the 100% answer to this is $$$$$. If you are drafted that high, with the kind of money they will be dealing out, the execs and team will expect you to be on the field.

Unless your name is Jared Goff, then the fans will expect you to be on the field and will get mad at the execs/team. It's a no-win situation and hard to groom any QB drafted in the 1st.

Two interesting tweets from CFB Filmroom on Kizer.

DeShone Kizer is just 1-4 on passes 20+ yds downfield the past 2 games. ND basically abandoning the deep passing game altogether.

Someone grab the other one.

Posting that IG pic with Nik Stauskas's ex-girlfriend was peak hubris. Kizer's marked tumble in quality of play started shortly thereafter.

Pretty much stated today that he's coming back but if I were him I would go pro because he will be the second QB off the board or first if you like Deshaun Watson more. Next year he would have to deal with Josh Rosen and Jake Browning.

I really think if he comes back he will be in a heated battled with Brandon Wimbush which IMO I think secretly Kelly wants Wimbush or there has been rumblings about it in the gug. I wouldn't even hate Wmbush playing the final three games this year and playing for 1-2 years depending on how good he is which everyone knows he's the most talented and just handing the keys over to Jurkovec.

Without having read the exact quotes myself, could it just be whatever the player equivalent of "coach speak" is? If he is indeed one of the top players in the draft, it would be pretty unwise to not take the money after seeing what happened to Matt Barkley.

Please go pro. I want a fresh start next year with BW and no toxicity on the sidelines or in the locker room about who should be starting.

No he didn't

"...right now, I fit in this environment pretty well and I've got to do whatever it takes to get a win against Army."

If that doesn't reak of "coach speak" from a player then I don't know what does. ZERO commitment to staying or going in that quote, IMO.
