Question is, can BK keep it simple enough but still plan for a high scoring match. Early forecast is 60% rain which concerns me too. Hoping to see run heavy, and TE pass heavy. Lots of easy high percentage dumps with an occasional long and over the top toss to one of our speedsters. Just hoping we don't see a bunch of cute crap.

Think we will see just how strong BK is with his QB coaching. Didn't the Irish hire an actual QB coach this offseason? If so, he has to have a slight headache right now. Anyway, BK knows what he needs to do. But yes... what the gameplan is becoames the question.

I was higher than a kite on Sanford after Texas. Not so much after this week. Still disappointed that we haven't seen more tosses to the TE.

Lol, Bogs I love you. I only give you a hard time because I know you're OK with it.

Thanks, bud! We both know it is all good! (I just couldn't resist!)

But do me a favor; don't use the word 'hard' in the sentence immediately following the one where you say 'I love you,' ever again!

Reps, sir! And a tip of the beer to that!

My day Saturday :

I don't think I conveyed the day I had Saturday. It was full of more petty bs than I can ever remember dealing with in a day.

We had an eighth birthday party for the daughter of good friends. My friends, (mom and dad), delight at planning her parties during ND games, every year. They are ND fans, but they love giving me crap about my Irish chauvinism. They tease me about how one dimensional I am, and tell me to get a DVR, when I bitch to them about their timing.

So I have a DVR and a new provider service this year. All cool it reminds me that the program may run over, so I decide that yes a half hour is more than enough extra time, and am pretty pleased with all things. The day was a cluster of all kinds of insane improbable crap, and therefore we are relegated to running like madmen, just to get through the day. Incredible bull shit, great results, wonderful party, we get home and I finally get a chance to wind down. I have even had a chance to fend off every spoiler alert.

Numb to begin, I watch the game like a slow motion fatal car crash. The kids are worried because I am not ever cursing. All the time I am saying, "Start playing, we can win this!"

Malik goes down and I feel terrible. I start to get angry at Va, so it becomes more than a religious obsession, it becomes an out and out crusade. I think I went about 20 minutes without blinking, and I know pulsing drum beat in my head is the increase in my heart rate to try to compensate for the lack of oxygen in my system; I am regularly forgetting to breathe. We get down to the final drive, everything is on the line, my boy is in, moving the team slowly, we get down to 33 seconds, (clearly the play before the TD!), and the recording stops! It is at the fucking end, no warning, just done! I am going oh ______, _____ _______ - _____!

Everyone left the room. I got up and walked in to my office, and turned on my computer, fully expecting to see a Hooey victory. BUT INSTEAD, THE IRISH WON!

Took me a couple of hours to see the highlights! My boy gets in, mounts a comeback two minute drive for the ages, and what do I do? Miss it. What a perfect ending for a perfectly shitty day!

60% of rain could be good. All the fakes they do could cause them to fumble but we need to be able to hold on to the ball ourselves.

We have absolutely no idea what his role actually is in this offense, though. Are you sure Sanford is the one you want to be upset with?

maybe, but I think I prefer DK not having to toss it in the rain for his first start. I want to run heavy, but I think DK will have to perform if we are to win.

True. I was trying to give him credit for MZ's performance against TX. Would love to know (anyone out there) what exactly he is doing vs BK.

I understand that. Like to see Jones with 4 or 5 catches. I would like to see Hunter get a few balls as well. We should have 35 rushin attempts between CJ and Adams with a few sweeps.

I sort of kid.

Agree, and I'm not kidding lol.

TEs will have to catch 10 balls IMO to win. DK needs some big easy targets to dump off to and gain confidence. I'd say we'll see 3-4 long shots too.

I thought about this and honestly think that was more of a Zaire thing. MZ wasn't at the point where he could check all of options. It seemed like he locked in on Fuller almost too much. I think we'll see more Robinson, Hunter, and TE play with Kaiser standing back there.

I think most young QBs make that mistake. good chance DK will too. doesn't help that fuller is open more than anyone else and is known to go and get it (good but bad if you're trying not to lock in on someone). BK probably has Fuller as the first option on a lot of those plays. I'd like to see designed TE throws.

I wish I could have heard the exchange that was going on when MZ was sitting on the bench and CBK was talking to him. Kizer walks up and it looked like Kelly was the one kind of in panic mode and trying to send DK away. Kizer calmed coach down and then kneeled down next to Malik. It looked to me like Kizer was the calmest one of the three and in complete control.

I hate it for Malik, but I am kind of looking forward to seeing what Kizer can do. I love his attitude and calm demeanor.

Go Irish!

Kizer is not a polished QB yet, looked shaky on intermediate throws, but, man, that last throw was a beauty. He didn't even really have his feet set, and he dropped a 50-yard bomb right into Fuller's lap. Definitely gives a reason for optimism.

This kid was a top ten quarterback for a reason. He already proved he can throw deep. He showed he has excellent poise. He is big, talented, and our new quarterback. I'm excited to see what he can do.

I don't think it was panic more of let him be or you need to go talk to your other coaches.

I know I have gone on about this, but DeShone is a lot like Jerry Tillery. There is just a massive mature, and always cool presence.

I saw it in high school. Central ran a fairly sophisticated spread offence, and the kid would burn through his progressions.

I saw the scene on the sideline Saturday night that was referred to above. I have heard from a reliable source that Kelly was very distraught Saturday night. It seems that it was over the injury, and Malik, that Kelly has an absolute affinity for Zaire.

But Kizer has this presence, spiritual would be the best way of explaining it. He just affects everyone positively.

Not only does he appear to read through his progressions, accurately, as fast as any other high school quarterback I have seen, the kid is like a computer, also calculating how to extend the play to get what he wants.

There is a play in his highlight reel that showed him dinking around on the sideline extending the play, because he knew (where and that) his single covered deep receiver would get open.

And one of the reasons I think he will do better with our wide receiver corps, than even Malik, is that in all the long throws, particularly those longer than 45 yards, he had an uncanny way of placing the ball perfectly, in stride. Never seen anything like it.

The only ball I ever remember seeing a receiver have to come back for or delay, was about a 60-70 yard, (in the air) ball that he threw on a wet and windy day.

Running? Don't write off our quarterback running. Not only was he like a boy among men in high school, but he could come through with it. Rarely did the defender come out on the better end of a tackle! I think for a while he had about a nine yard per carry average.

And like Kelly described of CJ Sanders, Kizer has the ability to cut while running flat out. It is almost spooky, but for a big guy he is remarkably adept at making a defender miss and grab nothing but air. I think I have seen it twice in practice videos at ND>

Nice run down, Bogs.

It definitely looked like Kelly has formed a good bond with Zaire, one that he never really had with Everett. Maybe Kelly is affected by Malik's energy too, who knows. His words in the press conference definitely seemed to come from the heart, he's going to miss that leadership just like the team will.

I am a bit down that we lost Zaire, was really excited for him to start this year, but I'm completely in Kizer's court right now and I know he can do great things for us. I honestly feel really good about all 3 of our top quarterbacks on the roster, I can't remember the last time I've been this high on a quarterback group. I know there was a lot of hype about the talent at QB in 2007, and that group of QBs turned out horribly aside from Clausen (Well, 2 of the 4 transferred anyway, and the other was the infamous Evan Sharpley). I feel much better, top to bottom, about the 3 QBs we have right now in comparison to any other hyped QB group we've had in the last 20 years or so.

BK was shook. Shortly after he was talking to Malik they showed him on camera and he was speaking into the headset and I thought he said "Who/what do you want, I've asked you five MF'n times." Just kind of seemed like he had lost some composure at that moment or was taking out some serious frustrations on someone. Anyone else see that?

I'm definitely disappointed to have lost Zaire because I loved what his running ability brought, and I think he's a damn good QB, but I'm keeping the hope alive on Kizer. Big strong kid with a gun for an arm standing behind our O-Line with the speed and talent we have at WR and TE should be enough to win most games if the defense shows up. We have all the pieces in place to be a lethal group in the vertical passing game as we have already seen a few times this year.

Yes, and he genuinely looked lost. He wasn't screeming pissed, just looked lost.

Malik was 7 for 18.
DeShone was 8 for 12.

I'm just saying...

Prior to the final drive (and even during the first series of downs on that drive), Kizer played just as poorly as Zaire. He badly missed several open receivers and on the first third down of the final drive he stared Fuller down so badly on a slant that he was nearly intercepted.

However, he's young. I'm expecting a mix of amazing, terrible, and everything in between. I have no doubt that he has all the tools to be an elite QB. He just needs some development first.

Speaking of Sanford, Kelly lost his sh*t on Mike. I replayed it numerous times, he said f*ck at least 5 times, and was referring to MS on the headset. Now what they were arguing about, that I have zero clue.

Now with BK talking to Malik after he went down, Kizer went over there and BK was trying to figure out what he wanted, all Kizer wanted to do was kneel down and pray with Malik.

This. Credit Kizer for getting it together, but I think Virginia went a little conservative at the end (Shades of our Michigan game in 2011?) and it bit them in the ass. I honestly think our struggles offensively weren't all on the QBs, our OL struggled to contain the Tenuta defense at times, and I think it affected our QBs quite a bit. You knew Tenuta had an axe to grind and something to prove, and I think he did an excellent job calling his defense in that game Saturday. It's fortunate we were able to find a way to win.

BK definitely lost his composure after Malik went down, you could see it in his face and body language. I mean, I'm sure any HC would if your starter just went down.
