I wonder if we use examples like this in recruiting. How many sure-fire prospects get derailed because making a living in the NFL is really, really hard to do?

wouldn't really be a classy thing. better to focus on perhaps ND players who didnt make it in the NFL but landed in good careers outside football. You don't want to play the Lane Kiffin "you'll end up working in a gas station" card haha

Pretty hard message to get across when all the other snakes are selling them a can't miss future as a GUARANTEED first round pick with a multi million dollar lifestyle.

The whole point is to prove that those people are absolutely wrong and that failing to take into account academics when choosing a school is basically mortgaging your future, no matter how good you are or what kind of football program you go into.

Examples like this are the only real way to communicate that message.

His recruitment always bothered me because he clearly got pushed by others to go to UNC, and it was done with almost 100% negative recruiting. I'm pretty shocked that this is the way his career ends after being so productive in 2015... he had damn near 1500 yards and 7 YPC to go along with a bunch of TDs.

His production dropped off as a junior and he battled some injuries... remember, he declared EARLY for the NFL draft. Didn't even stay for senior season at UNC. I always figured he'd return to early form and be the kind of powerful inside runner most NFL teams crave...

...instead, he left without a degree and is currently unemployed. I imagine he'll go back and finish because he's a very smart person and was doing well in school... but man, this is just an all-around shame.

Too bad, this kid's recruitment was basically the final straw in me following recruiting closely... he broke my heart bigly.

Don't worry about Elijah Hood. He didn't go to Miss St, he went to UNC and opted to take real courses and is less than a year away from a degree in Information Sciences. The former Eagle Scout was Academic All-ACC multiple years. Elijah Hood is going places in life.

What really sucks is that ND let a devout Catholic brother go elsewhere.

Did ND really let him go elsewhere? Or did he make an *interesting* decision based on high school love and some family preferences?

Yeah, he's a demographic target that ND has to land. There can't be any outcome other than he enrolls. No reasons, no excuses, no alternative endings.

Congrats on regurgitating his UNC web bio.

And ND didn’t “let” him go anywhere.

It doesn't even have to be the wrong one.... ANY one can derail that train.

Hopefully he'll be able to do well after not taking a single real class for the past 5 years.

If true, kudos.

Yeah, he said when he left he’d return to get his degree. And taken from his UNC bio:
Eagle Scout • Best class he's taken at UNC is INLS 161 because it gave him the basis for most of the programming he knows • His dream job is an IT security analyst • Information sciences major.

So all things considered he’s a lot better off than most UNC athletes.
