This might not be the case anymore but as of 2010 I'm pretty sure children of university employees got a full scholarship. Could this possibly be what's going on?

Could be... I knew some situations like this in college where the player/son got a free ride that fell under the Coach's family package and did not count against the scholarship total even though they were a starter.

A good example might be Creighton basketball last year with the McDermotts. Creighton traditionally was in a employee trading co-op with schools like Valpo, Drake, Bradley and Evansville and all of them has similar programs for free, full rides for family members. If Dougie McBuckets went to school for free as part of Dad's package that would answer the question.

I'm not up on the NCAA bylaws like I used to be back in the 90's. Things change every year.

Due to tax reasons, this rule no longer applies. Just went over it in tax this year. Tho I think they may be eligible for half tuition scholarships.

Montgomery VanGorder looked extremely sharp today. His ability to hold the clip board while fetching overthrows was impressive. ND might be tempted to pull the redshirt if EG struggles early.

Yeah, it used to be 90% of the tuition (my wife's dad worked at ND and she got that deal), but now it is 50% of ND's tuition towards ND or any school in the country. So if my wife still works at ND in 16-20 years, our kids could go to school for free at a school like Ball State, or nearly free at a school like Indiana, or still put us in massive debt at ND. Win-win-win.

I really dont think that any of "us" can question who the staff gives a scholarship to. We werent there during summer workouts and who knows maybe hes a better leader than Golson and Zaire. The kid won 2 state titles in Georgia. Reguardless of division, bc i dont know, the kid is a winner. People questioned Joe Schmidt when he arrived, and questioned the scholarship. He has worked his way into potentially starting. BK doesnt give special treatment to anyone much less the son of his staff, so whatever the reasoning its valid. Do I think lil VanGorder starts? I doubt it but like mentioned above, its not like ND is going to reach 85 in the near future.

I think you guys are reading way to much into this. Based on an article I read today, even taking into consideration the scholarship to MVG, ND still only has 81 scholarship players this year. If there is a shortage next year BK will probably not renew this one.

I thought ND only did 4 year schollies, unless you're a walk on and earn it later in your career.

I thought they used the 85 scholarships every year regardless of how many "scholarship players" there were.

Around minute 54, the backs are asked who among their teammates is most likely to be a football coach. Immediately they say "Gummy".
Kelly spoke very highly of him after the North Carolina game, too. He was asked how much help Wimbush was able to provide to Book from the sidelines, and he essentially said "not much," instead talking about how helpful MVG is to the other guys when it comes to talking about defenses, etc.

Can't believe that this award exists. Nonetheless, reps to MVG.

Needs a TD throw to get him over the hump, this weekend?

A solid game holding in the humidity of Miami may be enough for the committee to give him the nod. Plus, he's got a solid cold weather game next week for the committee to watch film on.

Surprised nobody has mentioned how much this could help the staff in recruiting. A fresh "Holder of the Year" winner could add 2 or 3 5stars into this cycle's bounty.

Maybe the long snapper could snap one just bad enough to show off MVG's skills to still place one perfectly. It may cost MVG a steak dinner, but I bet John Shannon "let's one slip" this week.

Absolutely. I support this post 100%. Maybe even 4. Would we have to dump some lower numbers then?
