Marcus Ball (6-3 170) ATH - Westerville South, Westerville

Ball is below the radar right now, but is a guy who will likely get more offers over the summer camp circuit. His biggest offer right now is Arizona State, but he's talking to Big Ten schools like Northwestern at the moment. His brother Ray was a freshman at Wisconsin last year. He also plays quarterback, but is probably a safety at the next level for most schools.

McCallister's Take: “I really like him. He's a big, tall 6-3 free safety. He's playing quarterback right now, but I really like him. He hits and he has really good closing speed. I just like him. He doesn't have great speed, but he's fast enough. I just think he's overlooked right now.”

if this mccalister is who i think it is, i wouldn't take his opinion too seriously...nothing against ball, just saying this guy isn't all he's cracked up to be...

if it's the guy i'm thinking of.

If the staff likes him, I like him. I like how the staff is going hard after some undervalued kids.

The eval on Ball about being underrated is spot on. He has always played qb but is very athletic and has size. Not a bad player to take a flyer on. He will get more big time offers as the camp circuit continues.

I also love that we go after underrated guys as well, but are we taking enough safeties in this class that we'd take a flier here? I also wonder if other big conference schools that aren't going after bigger prospects would have a better chance if they can guarantee more PT.

I do like the comparison to John Turner, who is a great pickup IMO

Arizona State, Pitt, and Illinois are Top 3.

Much better offer list than John Turner.

This kid fits the mold of players who blow up over the summer. Anyone know what kind of interest he has in ND, regardless of a lack of offer? Wonder if he's the type to pop if he gets an ND offer, or if we'll be in the mix amongst that top 3.

About time i get to be an insider! Haha

My best friend went to South, and all of his roommates (thus my drinking buddies) know Marcus pretty well. A buddy of mine (who just so happens to be able the biggest ND fan I've ever met), is actually going on his ND visit with him. Im gunna have info on this kid as soon as they can respond to texts haha

Marcus Ball

I, along with my father, will be making the trip with Marcus this Friday and Saturday. My father is his high basketball school coach.

He played QB this past year for Westerville South and will get a lot more time on Defense. He is about as physical as it gets in both football and basketball.

His brother is 6'8 330 lbs redshirt freshman OL for Wisconsin. He got Offensive Scout Team MVP during his redshirt season. Marcus will grow some more and is already 6'3 210 lbs.

We're getting a hotel Friday and then on Saturday we will be at practice, getting a tour of the campus, meeting with the coaches, and then finally the academic advisors. I have been on campus about 15 times in the past but it will be Marcus' first time and we're very excited for the trip.

+1. It's as good as it gets. Soak it all in. Man, can't wait to get back. Little over a week until the Spring Game!

This kid is starting to gain some momentum with schools right now. I would imagine a few big time camps and his offers will start rolling in. I laugh at the comment of ASU being his biggest offer right now. Wasn't West Virginia just in a BCS game? They are also changing from Big East to Big 12.

I can actually see OLB. This kid has the genes to grow a few inches and put on some weight.
I wonder if he is being looked at for bball too.

Brought his basketball coach and his son on visit with him because they are huge Notre Dame fans, thought they would be able to help him find his was around campus and also would be cool for them to see it so up close. Loved the visit, said he is being recruited as a OLB/Safety hybrid and could see himself as a beast (too soon?) in ND's scheme. Could find out on offer by Thursday of this week, no set top 3 but ND is for sure going to be in top 3 when it gets to that point. Also loved all of the players and how levelheaded they were. Said it would be "an absolute honor" to get an offer.

Is this the result of missing on Anzalone? I thought he was being recruited ilb and Marcus as olb so not sure if that makes sense.

Any insight on what linebacker position he is projected at Dog, Cat, etc? Im assuming he may be a bit more of a Dog type, but I also think Jaylon may (if he comes to ND) be more natural there (per the reports that he has been covering WR's very well- just as well as some CB's)

more of a Dog but we can afford to take two at every LB position; doesn't matter which position in reference to others as he would not be taking anyone's spot

Yeah, sorry, wasnt implying he would take Jaylon's spot (no body can do that), just curious where you guys think he would be ideally.
