is it so simple that AQM is a silent and basically took/will take mattingly spot...or am i way off base here.
didnt the "mattingly wavering" stuff all seem to start at same time the "aqm is a silent" thing started floating around

They will play different positions. AQM has nothing to do with Mattingly.

The way I understand it is it doens't have as much to do with position as it does spots. AQM is factored in to the equation. Meaning he has a spot in this class no matter what. We are going to wait on him until he's ready because our understanding is he wants to be part of this class just at his own pace. Ebenezer has to do with Mattingly.

That video pretty much summed up for me that he is exactly the kind of kid that fits in at ND. When you hear mothers and coaches speaking of degrees you know we are in it! Hope everything holds true with him and he is donning the Gold helmet next year!

Can you imagine this dude pulling you over for speeding? Geeze. I'd never speed again.

Undergraduate Majors // Academics // University of Notre Dame

Don't see Criminal Justice listed. I wonder how much of an impact that could have on his decision.

FBI agents usually have law degrees, these days. I think we were saying that Peace Studies is the closest ND has to criminal justice.

I don't know about any majors that are specifically appealing to them, but I have heard that Federal police and intelligence agencies recruit heavily from ND.

Not sure about that, but there is this:

Even during Hoover's early days as FBI director, his affinity for Notre Dame, its alumni, and its mission statement became clear when the FBI hired more agents from the Notre Dame alumni base than from any other university in the country. The roots of this relationship between Hoover and Notre Dame were established in the 1930s, but they bloomed in the 1950s when more than 130 Notre Dame graduates became agents on the FBI payroll at one time.

When it comes to the federal agencies and the intelligence community, it is less about where the degree is from and more about the type of degree. Its important to go to the specific federal agency you are looking for a check out what type of career path you want to take because each path has a different structure.

A CJ will get you only so far, especially if that's the only thing you have going for you. A lot of places prefer a mix of a degree and experience. You can get hired with just a CJ but its a bit more difficult as its become a degree that a lot of people obtain.

You really want to get noticed by these places, branch out: international relations/business, finance, intelligence studies, a degree with a language, etc. Those look better.

I have worked in both the federal capacity and in the intelligence community and have spoken to many a recruiter/hiring official to gauge how the process is done and what they look for. As long as they see its from an accredited university, they quickly move on to other things in the hiring process. They really cherish experience above any type of degree to be frank.

Now, this is not to say it is 100% always like that and each situation is different and unique in its own way. Just from my years of federal work and intelligence community work.

FBI agents have different types of degrees since they have different needs. One of my young co-workers was recruited by the FBI and he is a field agent today. He has a high tech-programming degree.

True, there are five "entry programs," or ways you can qualify to be considered for employment as a special agent:
-Accounting
-Computer Science/IT
-Language
-Law
-Diversified

Sounds like your friend would have qualified by going the Computer Science/IT route.

I have several friends and family members who are now in the FBI (one friend from ND) and all qualified via the law route. From my discussions with those people, I have the impression that most FBI agents have law degrees, but I don't know whether that's precisely true. In any case it's certainly true that agents do come from other backgrounds as well; as you say, the FBI has many different needs.

As impressive as that box jump is, it's the maturity and level head that are more impressive. You can tell this young man put his ego away a long time ago.

My guess is 0. This has been discussed around here before. If you want to be a local police officer I don't think a degree is even needed in most places. Now, if we are talking state police, FBI, or something else there are degrees at Notre Dame that will most definitely suffice those agency needs.

Like what? And you must have an CJ degree (or background) to go into FBI or anything like that. Of course, he could do that post-ND when he works at the local police force for experience.

I have a buddy that went to business school(and got his CPA), and had to go back and get his CJ just so he could go FBI...he's now working for Austin PD knocking out some experience.

The alternative is to be military...My fraternity brother is an army ranger and when he leaves, he's going DEA...

You pretty much have to in order to play in a program like DBP. Success breeds success and AQM has that in spades IMO.

My nephew is an FBI agent in Detroit. He got there by experience in local police work, great discipline, standards of work excellence, and being a stud. The degree did not matter; he proved who he was in Cleveland area police work. Any ND degree that could get you hired into a police unit where you can prove yourself can be a stepping stone to the FBI.

This is incorrect.

I qualified (although didn't test because I was moving overseas) under IT, Law, Accounting, and Diversified. Outside of my ONE criminal law class in law school I know nothing about criminal justice.

I coincidentally work with a retired FBI agent who got his JD first. Seems to be a large source of agents.
