Probably blame to share on both sides, but this isn't the first 1st round pick that didn't have a contract in place at the start of camp. Get used to it mom. Mom also doesn't realize that the name Bosa doesn't carry the same clout as Manning.

This. One is NFL royalty, the other some scrubs.

Also, one was a QB, one is not. About all that really matters in reference to those situations.

Plenty of literature out there on this situation. Basically, both sides are correct in their desires, and both sides have precedent for what they want.

I feel for the Chargers in that they are following their protocol and Bosa's main gripe is WHEN he gets his money; I also feel for Bosa in that he didn't elect to go to the one Franchise that won't play ball with his stipulations... they picked him, not the other way around.

I'll have to try and locate the article I read that outlined it all really well.

Two sides to a story. Chargers are a cheapskate organization.

My opinion goes back to when Joey was first being recruited by colleges. Its not based solely on this situation. I've read many interviews with the father, both sons, mother, etc.

Is this the Chargers fault or the Bosa's? Well considering that Bosa is the only first found draft pick to hold out since the CBA...

The Chargers are probably one of the worst franchises to get drafted by and could totally be jerking him around. At the same time, like Lucky said, I've literally never heard a single good word about anyone with that last name.

The problem is that the Chargers haven't been slotted that high since the CBA took effect, and the top 5 is where there is still some wiggle room on some things.

Combine the tax issues that exist in San Diego with conflicting precedents for both sides, and you've got a stalemate simply based on their draft position that bypasses the issues the CBA tried to eliminate.

The Top 5 is fully guaranteed. What do you mean by wiggle room?

I read that there is a conflict in the timing of when the signing bonus will be paid, which both sides have a valid argument for.

Oh yeah. That's what I read, Bosa wants it all up front.

this. the chargers are saying the bonus is allocated over hte life of his contract, which according to them the majority of the nfl does. However, i believe some organizations have made exceptions for their top picks, which the Bosa's want.

Chargers stance is this is how we treat all players regardless of drafted position, and we dont plan to change.

A little history on Boss's Mom... (from something I posted in his brother's thread)

She's literally the kinda woman who'd make the Chargers an offer the couldn't refuse.. No italics.
I just heard that the Bosa boys mother is a Kumerow. I don't know if any of you remember Eric Kumerow from Chicago I think he played at Fenwick and probably lived in the Melrose / Elmwood / Oak Park / River Forest area for reasons I'll get into later. He played at Ohio State and then a short time in Miami where he (and his sister I assume) played with John Bosa. Kumerow spent his last year with the Bears.

The interesting part of this is.... Kumerow's Dad was a big time union leader, Teamsters or Laborers, in Chicago and his mom was the daughter of Tony Accardo.

If your not from Chicago that might not mean much to you but he's the guy that called the shots for the mob for half the century. He's the guy who got the skim in Casino.

And that's the reeeeest of the story.

I spent 15 years servicing the retail automotive industry in Chicago. It's loaded with mobsters. That and my old man was a USW official in Gary, IN. Just things you learn living in Chicagoland.

I don't understand why the timing of the bonus matters. Can someone explain?

Reading that article makes it sound like the Chargers are the ones being ridiculous. What is their deal?

they are notoriously cheap, look at their stadium/relocation fiasco

They want to pay the signing bonus the same way that they have always paid the signing bonus.

The Bosas want that money ASAP, so it can be making more money ASAP.

Time value of money is what I was thinking but that's a pretty stupid perspective considering all the negative publicity this is getting.

Not so fast, my friends!

People are starting to make it pretty clear, despite SD's PR efforts, that the Chargers are actually being basically unreasonable.

Interesting situation continues.

I don't know the ins and outs of the dispute, but those facts listed in the PR announcement make it seem his offer is more than reasonable.
