it's not like freshman RB's can't make inroads on good teams (happens all over the country, why not ND for once?)
because we are ND?

Anybody know how this turned from a 4 game suspension to a full season?
Just so we're clear, who is playing the part of BK in that re-enactment?
I'd say the odds are greater that he transfers after this semester than they are that he stays put.
If this is all (and a few of you know what I'm talking about), then this is a big 'meh' for me. He was already gone for a third of the season anyway, and it's not like freshman RB's can't make inroads on good teams (happens all over the country, why not ND for once?), so this doesn't really phase me right now.
Plus, if this is the only guy that we lose from now until the season, I will be a happy, happy man. (Insert prayer gif)
Indeed... but if it doesn't shake out right, this loss is catastrophic. As is, Folston + Prosise can handle 30 touches a game easily between them with another back (Carlisle, Hunter, Williams, or Adams) getting a little bit of run.
"Somewhat" better be code for third string
Please God, no. We have a monster OL, we have Folston, Prosise, Dex, Adams. If we can't keep two of those healthy through the season, then we can always bring Carlisle back behind the QB.
Let's allow some of our players to stick at their "best" position. For Sanders, most believe that is slot/return man.
So I feel like I'm missing something with that last tweet.
Wouldn't the only reason for the difference between a B+ and B- making you eligible mean he was doing very poor in other classes?
I know Mr. Bryant means well with that quote but damn that makes ND look ridiculous from a publicity standpoint.
It doesn't sound like this is an ND issue. If he's academically ineligible, that is an NCAA thing. And a Mr. Greg Bryant thing. There have been lots of kids that came from less than great backgrounds who made it through ND. In fact, that is what the mystique is founded on. The problem is not with ND. The problem is with the kids who don't (or won't?) put forth the effort that is required.
It wouldn't be a NCAA issue if the teacher would have just given him a B+ instead. In a world where other teams allow accused rapists to play the entire season i'm okay with grading our guys in the classroom on a slight curve if necessary.
If Professors start grading athletes differently, then what is the difference between ND and tOSU or Oregon or Florida State?
Those schools ignore off the field issues. They also dont make their player attend real classes, if they attend any classes at all. They also have ridiculously low entrance standards.
Im not talking about passing students that barely showed up to class and earned a D-. But for christ sake a B- is already above average.
What is the point of requiring football players to attend real classes, if you are not going to give them real grades? If you want to blame someone, blame Greg Bryant, who apparently did B- work in a class when he needed to be doing B+ work.
Who are we helping by holding players to this tight of a standard? Bryant really learned his lesson! No he's gonna transfer to some school like FSU that will require him to do zero classroom work to get on the field. This also can do nothing but discourage other recruits from coming here. I understand this moral high ground i just don't think it benefits anyone.

Sorry haven't read all the posts and not sure if it's been brought up but he loses a year of eligibility, correct?
Something is telling me that Koon had something to do with this.

Our degree will still hold exponentially more value.
But I do agree, let's not dull down education for student athletes.

...
So do his suspension and his ineligibility get lumped together, or would he still have to sit out to start next year. This assuming he stays, although I doubt he will at this point.
He doesn't lose a year of eligibility, he loses a year off his 5 year window to play. He played as a Fr. And So. This is year 3 on his clock. Sitting out 2015 leaves a 2 years to play in a 2 year window.
I don't know his GPA status but if he's NCAA GPA Ineligible and not just ND ineligible he can transfer but he's still ineligible.
As for the 4 game ban versus losing the entire season, I believe it's moot. If the 4 game suspension was Kelly (team rules) GB has lost a lot more. IF it was Res Life (Du Lac) such suspensions are issued for the student to reflect on the problem, get counseling, mend his ways, and focus on his studies. The season, actually semester, suspension is for a lack of satifactory progress by the Academic people.
IF GB is convinced that even with ND Tutoring and a maximum effort on his part that he can't succeed in ND's academic environment than he needs to leave. Obviously ND hasn't thrown in the towel as he's allowed to stay AND keep his scholarship ... for this semester.
I believe he didn't play enough minutes his freshman year and ended up redshirting.

2 years to play in a 2 year window
You're correct he did get a "redshirt" but it was a Medical Hardship Waiver Redshirt for knee tendonitis. It's based on % of games played not minutes. You can't exceed 30% of the season's games. If you step on the field for 1 play in 4 games you burn a year of eligibilty. As he played in 3 games and supplied the necessary medical info to the NCAA through the school hewas granted the Medical Hardship Waiver by the NCAA. Thus he did NOT burn a year of eligibilty but he burned a year off his clock.
2013 Medical Hardship Waiver Redshirt - burned year 1 of his 5 year window, did not use a year of eligibilty.
2014 Burned 1 year of Eligibilty - burned year 2 of 5 year window, burned year one of eligibilty.
2015 Academically Ineligible - burns year 3 of 5, does not use a year of eligibility.
Leaving GB with 3 seasons of eligibilty BUT only 2 seasons of the 5 year window to use them. Thus,
