As optimistic as I am and most others are about Folston, I still think Bryant will be the best back on the team when all is said and done.

I agree but I really don't understand what his injury is...and if it will linger. My limited understanding is that he played through it in HS.

Which one was that? I'm involved in so many I can't keep track, lol.

There's really no way I can spin this. I do it half to get a kick out of you guys and half because he's just such a physical specimen for being a freshman it's amazing. Like I said, anything I say is going to sound weird lol.

Haha just busting your chops, I figured the pic was mainly tongue-in-cheek since you've done it before. And we had a debate because you put a picture of Greg Bryant in a random thread and I said it should've been in his thread. It turned into a debate about bumping recruits threads/what constitutes important info/etc. I was grumpy and don't care about thread bumps one way or the other, so I argued about it at the time.

Ahhh, I remember now. Yeah, personally I try not to bump player's threads, and it's always been my biggest pet peeve when people do it but I've given up on trying to convince people to do it my way lol.

And this is why we don't overreact to rumors made up by some guy with like 200 followers on Twitter.

It was much more than just "rumors made up by some guy with like 200 guys on Twitter." One of my good friends lives on his floor and said several times during the first month or two Greg was unhappy and openly mentioned that he wanted to transfer.

I'd like to think that he was open about transferring and that a whole bunch of rumors weren't started. With that, I also hope that some of the guys on the team were able to share their experiences with maybe the same thoughts at one point in their career. Helped give him some guidance and he then found out what makes Notre Dame so special. Just my thinking. Don;t mind me!

My girlfriend's out of town this weekend, so I had time to look up some Greg Bryant pics.

So with Gregg getting a RS this year, is RB even a priority in this class? Meaning it's probably doubtful they would take anyone other than an elite type player.

I would say that we will probably take at least one.

YOu must. You never know when you could end up with a McDaniel or GAIII in the back field.

Better safe than sorry. An injury or transfer can happen at anytime.

I thinking you are saying that Cam and GAIII are as good as some thought?

I think our run blocking hasn't been as good this year. But as well as the offense style that we ran with Golson helped our running game tremendously IMO. Golson had 298 yards rushing and we all knew that Rees wouldn't come close to that.

Last year 2462 yards this year 1714. So you take away the 298 yards from Golson and you are only 450 yards different from last year.

GAIII (2012) 361 yards
GAIII (2013) 554 yards

They weren't our first option. Anyone claiming that either was an every down guy, or a true #1, is a liar. Role players.

They've done a nice job...but we haven't had a consistent running game all year. Our leading rusher just passed 600 yards and has only rushed for 3TD's. BYU was the first game he went over 100 yrds....in 11 games.

GAIII, while I love his homerun threat, is a change of pace...that's about all.

I'm saying that I'm looking for more of a "featured back" than a couple of guys we plug in to stop the bleeding. That's all. We need to get a guy that can shoulder 15-20 carries a game, and make a big play when needed.

Not that you can read this....

I never once said they were great or featured backs. I was just saying that our totals are that far from last year. We just have more backs contributing to that factor. Yes GAIII is a big play threat but how many big plays has he had this year a few. At least he doesn't give up or get mad when others get his reps he keeps going out and trying to do his part just like all the other backs.

To me it depends if Mahone stays. Until someone takes it to the next level( folston next year) I feel we could insert Mahone and not miss a beat.

If Mahone leaves we diffinately take a rb...

What have you seen from Mahone that makes you think that?

Mahone was getting more time in the slot than in the backfield though, wasn't he? I'm not counting him out, but he couldn't pass Carlisle who is no longer getting many reps... It also doesn't help that he was injured though.

With Greg Bryant having red shirted this season, Notre Dame will have a running back in next year's freshman class in the five-star talent, even if it's a red-shirt freshman. Word around the program was that Bryant was Notre Dame's most talented running back this year before his injury. Barring a transfer, Notre Dame's running back depth chart will be unchanged in 2014.

Sampson also thinks right now he will stick around

That's great news! Bryant and Folston and Golson with GA3 ready to break the big one any second! I am feeling really good about next year!

Yeah. Love the RB depth going forward although I'd love for the staff to feed the ball 25+ times to a guy like Folston (or Bryant, it is his thread), than the committee thing. I loved watching Tre Mason just get better and better as the game went on and I think a focus back brings an element of toughness and grit to the offense that everyone feeds off.

I could have sworn Kelly mentioned it in that CBS interview last week.

Probably. I know Kelly thinks Bryant gets another year, but I don't understand how. I've glanced at the rules and I think Bryant has to apply for a hardship waiver. He's eligible to do so but I don't think he gets the redshirt year as a matter of right, unless I'm not looking at the right rule or not understanding it correctly.

I've considered that Kelly probably has experts advising him on this and I am hardly an expert, but I'd be interested in an explanation of how it works if anyone comes across one.

Completely understand bro, the rules with redshirting are very confusing. I believe it is that if said player does not play 20% of the snaps over 80% of the dirt 6 games thy are eligible for redshirt. If that made any sense to you, please explain it to me lol.
